Poll looks grim for Mayans

A Survey USA poll contains grim news for Mayor Carlos Mayans: He hasn’t made up much ground since his double-digit loss to Carl Brewer in the mayoral primary. The poll found that 58 percent of likely voters plan to vote for Brewer and 36 percent for Mayans. And as in the primary results, Brewer led across the board, in every demographic category.
That’s a huge gap for Mayans to close with less than one week left before the general election.

I thought Mr. Mayans did well in the debate last night. He appeared to answer questions more comfortably than Mr. Brewer.

The question in my mind is who is the better deliberator in day to day matters.

Let’s keep them both by re-electing Carlos Mayans as mayor. This would automatically keep Carl Brewer in his councilman position for at least two more years.

Otherwise we lose Mayans’ experience and replace Brewer with a rookie councilman.

The problem is that Brewer is now firmly entrenched into the “good old boy network” with supporters like Bob Knight running his campaign.

What you are getting with Brewer is Bob Knight’ Puppet… You will continue to see corruption at city hall, probably even worse than ever.

As for Mayans, he’s pissed off the council so bad, he cant get anything done. The position of Mayor is powerless, so what’s the point.

I’m not sure which is worse, Knights puppet or a Mayor who does nothing but try to start WSU football and get rid of porn…—–
Mayans is a horrible mayor. Brewer can do no worse.

    I’m suspecting Brewer will win.

Meaning, Mayans will probably become a consultant or lobbyist.

Sometimes it matters who is elected. This isn’t one of those times. Either one will do just fine.

Carlos Mayans is actually a very good man. There is an entrenched City-Hall bureaucracy that must be dealt with no matter who the Mayor is.Many top level city and county department heads actually dismiss elected officials as only temporary problems to be ignored.I know Carlos Mayans very well. He is an honest man who fights for what he believes in.His finest moments are behind the scenes, when he forces stubborn, arrogant government workers to do their jobs.Unfortunately, we have seen the “bull dog” Mayans in the TV and in the paper, but we havent heard enough about the little people, and the issues, Mayans is fighting for.Every Con Artist I have ever met is more charming that Carlos Mayans.I dont want Charm, I want honesty and someone I can trust.I trust Carlos Mayans and he has my vote.

Paul, I supported Carlos 4 years ago because I felt city hall needed a good house-cleaning. I remember telling him that he should forge alliances with the “outs” of all stripes. It is in that that I believe he has failed politically. He seems to have isolated himself instead of reaching out.

I don’t know who I will vote for – heck, maybe I’ll write in. I like carlos and I respect him. I just don’t know how effective he has been or will be.

Write your self in Mr. Huie, you’ll be sure to get a free hot dog at WSU baseball/basketball games when you stand up to be announced before the game begins. :)

What concerns me about Brewer is his lack of ability to even clean up his own district. He wasn’t able to get much done it seems. I also don’t like the way he tries to ‘oneup’ Mayans when he knows the council meetings will be broadcast on the 6 o’clock news. His ties to the big money boys are very tight. Look at his contributors. Sometimes it is better the devil I know that the devil I don’t know.

And, when citizens force a cleanup, he helps prosecute them.
