How should you vote if you wish to retain the experience of both Carlos Mayans and Carl Brewer?
RE-ELECT CARLOS MAYANS FOR THE MAYOR’S POSITION. THIS WOULD AUTOMATICALLY RETAIN CARL BREWER FOR THE REMAINING TWO YEARS OF HIS CITY COUNCIL POSITION.
Frankly, under our form of weak mayor/city council and strong city manager form of municipal government — the power of the mayor and city councilman is virtually the same.
I believe both men are reasonable and can continue to work together after the election. Out on the campaign trail in debates and meetings across Wichita, they are discussing issues and differences which educates the voters on important municipal issues.
Neither candidate has communicated any speciifc plan on how to improve things in Wichita. How do they feel about video cameras in police cars, cameras in high crime areas? How do they expect to pay for the infrastructure upgrades needed for the proposed arena? How will they work with county commissioners to resolve the county jail overcrowding.
They may be out on the campaign trail, but they are not discussing issues with any clarity or specifics for moving forward.
Fully ONE HALF of Americans would NOT vote for Hitlery.
What does that mean?
It means that despite the Democrats premature assumptions that they will control the White House in ‘08, it isn’t going to be a slam-dunk.
Even ONE out of FIVE Democrats will NOT vote for Hitlery – for their OWN Party nominee.

All the GOP need do is run a TRUE fiscal Conservative….homerun.
Again.

I need either WSClark’s email or a link to the ‘other’ BLOG.

There is a big Lib that lives down the street from me. She has a Brewer sign in her front yard. The Eagle endorsed Brewer.
Now I know who to vote for.

Chavez Announces Takeover of 16 Estates for Venezuela’s Land ReformSixteen landed estates will be expropriated for Venezuela’s land reform program, announced President Hugo Chavez yesterday, during his television program Alo Presidente. The total area of land that will thus become available for redistribution to peasants and agricultural cooperatives will exceed 330,000 hectares.

Well after 7 years of religious conservatism run amok, I think people will vote for the polar opposite of GWB.
Interesting thought, Wayreth. I am not sure if people are tired of the religious overtones or his perceived incompetence or a very unpopular war.
In my opinion only, it seems like the war and his missteps have more people riled than GW’s religious leanings. But…I could be wrong on that. Even so, he has given his opponents lots of ammunition!

First of all, Wichita Voice is not a private party. The forum is for anyone and everyone to use as they see fit. It’s a collective for anyone who wants to promote discussion about Wichita and other important topics.
Second of all, I’m not an asshole. The reason I started Wichita Voice is because I didn’t and still don’t feel the Eagle (or most other media outlets) paint a full picture of what’s really going on in the world, let alone Wichita. Everyone writes articles or covers stories for their SHOCK VALUE, not for their relevance. (How long were we subjected to the Anna Nicole drivel?)
By all means, come over and post on Wichita Voice; the area is much more secure, the articles are submitted by YOU, and the conversation is focused on what you want to talk about. If they area seems to have one specific group of people, it’s because no one else has joined the party.
~Dubyahttp://www.wichitavoice.com
Isn’t Wichita Voice ran by a bunch of Left Coast/California guys? What do they have in common with the opinions in Kansas?
Is that really true, Dubya? Here’s CrapnAmerica from the “other side”:
“Because if we don’t know who he is, he’s not really welcome, IMHO.”
Is that what you mean by “for everyone?”
Repub,The WV blog is pretty nice. Very well set up. Created by a Dallas Texas group of guys that are listening to and responding to requests for improvements. Dubya has made many many customizations to it as well.
There are some blog nannies trying to make it a private party, but as dubya – the owner of the blog- has said, it is still a public forum.
Sol,
I read the Wichita Voice blog, I was underwhelmed.
LOL….um, no the owners of the blog (instantspot.com) website are just about five hours away in Dallas.
I run Wichita Voice and I was born, raised, and live in Wichita.
California??

Well, I’m not going to argue over what one of the posters put up there; I’M telling you it’s an open forum. If you have a subject you would like to talk about or entry you would like to post, I’d put it up there just like everyone else.
I don’t claim to be a journalist, Repub; I’m sorry you were “underwhelmed”, perhaps your next blog entry to WV would be more stimulating?
~Dubyahttp://www.wichitavoice.com
Dubya,WV is yours and I gave you credit, I also gave credit to Dallas. What’s the deal?
No deal :) I was typing when you posted. Sorry about the double-post, thanks for the credit.
~Dubya
“There are some blog nannies trying to make it a private party,”
So true. The Fisting with Fury bunch believe it is theirs. Too bad for Dubya. He’s trying to do something, but he will be denied.
Give it a chance. Linda In KS has threatened to leave if WE posters post there. Paradox. No one should feel unwelcome on a public blog. At the same time, you HAVE to have a little bit of tough skin and realize some snide comments aren’t intended to be personal. Even if they are, what the hell? It is a blog !!!!
Dubya really has a nice forum/set up over there. I don’t know how many posters here have requested issues as topics and that fell on deaf ears. At WV, you actually get to start a topic you are interested in.
It will be a shame if dubya’s work goes to waste with only likeminded opinions being heard.
Thanks for the invite, Dubya. I stopped over and saw your forum a couple of days after the folks here left – and I CO think you have a nice format. I’m sure you’ll attract many folks in time.
It’s always nice to provide a place for like-minded folks to go and discuss issues, or just their day to day happenings.
Good luck to you.
Dubya:
I understand you, as host, are not responsible for what people post, but are simply hosting the site. I did not intend to include you in the label, and will and do now sincerely apologize to you for any offense taken.
Your posters, however, are another matter. And I’ve said all I intend to say, and will not go further. I’ll stand by it.
Tony Snow had been diagnosed with cancer. Will GS now call for him to resign to spend time with his family in his remaining days?Family values, don’t you know.
GMC – you make some good points. Today, after two weeks, I broke down and went back over to the ‘hideout’ blog (mainly because Dubya linked to it half a dozen times) and there’s nothing new. It will be my last time to visit – as it resembles a child’s sandbox.
The ‘cut and run’ crew are still as full of piss and vinegar as they ever were – still, obviously, very angry that they ‘lost face’ here.
I just scanned it – but I didn’t see Linda’s comment. I liked Linda, but she seems to need to draw herself into a protective shell. That’s okay.
Farmie/longhorn/whatever is still about the nastiest poster I’ve ever had the displeasure of reading. yawn Just seeing all those ‘hehehehehehehe’ made my skin crawl all over again.
Anyway, from the little I read, they are STILL obsessed with us here – with the fact that WEBlog laughed at their demands, and they must be reading every word written here. All this time, I thought it was just WS – but it seems Farmie comes and spends her days pouring over our posts, too. Some folks just don’t have a life, I suppose.
I have to wonder when she’s going to decide it’s WEBlog’s fault she is no longer here – and sue them for sexual discrimination. The WEBlog editors MUST be homophobes…lol
But let’s cut to the chase – this is our board now, they need to move on and quit living in the past. It’s ironic that the VERY issues they claim to have left here – they are propagating on that board.
Get over it guys. It was YOUR decision to leave – now move on….we have. We’re thrilled with our board now and it’s a better place. Try to make your board a better place, too.
It was nice of that Dubya fellow to invite us all – he must REALLY be hurting for some quality posters. Ouch. Can’t say as I blame him. I wonder when he will finally get his fill and start banning the foul mouths?
Anyway, that little visit only served to remind me that WEBlog has become a MUCH nicer place and that we ought to just forget those folks ever posted here.
WSWho?FarmieWho?TracyWho?
lol
Gotta run – I’ve got a fantastic day planned out and I don’t intend to waste one more second talking about the dregs of society.
Toodles
Yes, infernal, Snow should consider his family at this time and step down.
It’s about making the important things in life count.
Iran to release a female British sailor…
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,261881,00.html#
Has anyone heard about the GPS on the boats? Were they in Iranian waters? The female British sailor wrote a letter stating that they were. Was this the truth or written under duress?
http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,262013,00.html
I think the Brits claim they have GPS and were in Iraqi waters. Haven’t seen any details though. It would also be interesting to know if they might have been in disputed waters. That border is a bit uncertain.
Ben, and others: see map in linked BBC report. Commentary accompanying the same suggests that the Iranians have given conflicting reports as to the position of the ship boarded, etc.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6503657.stm
Well Ben,
Looks like you have a victory to cheer for, seeing that your pals the Iranians have taken some of those evil infidel pigs hostage?
Actually Nathan – NO. I do not consider the Iranians to be my ‘pals’; simply a sovereign state with its own interests. And right now I see this as a potential ‘lose-lose’ standoff:
“The UK government said the Iranians had initially said the merchant vessel had been at a point within Iraqi waters, before later providing a second, alternative position, within Iranian waters.
Iran’s embassy in London issued a statement in response to the UK data, in which it said the sailors and marines had been 0.5 km inside Iranian waters at the time they were seized.
The statement, quoted by the official IRNA news agency, said “the governments of Iran and Britain have the ability to solve the incident through contacts and close co-operation”. ”
It is interesting that the Iranians seem to have waffled on where they claim the ship was. Also the fact that even their claim is marginal – that the Brits crossed by a few hundred yards. The fact that the Iranians are referring to contacts and cooperation tells me that they want to find a way out of this fiasco.
I wonder if the Iranians had GPS?
Next step by Iranians, planting floating mines. Sounds familiar doesn’t it. :)
It is a rather easy fix, release the hostages.
Instead, the Iranians are preparing to put them on TV?
Instead, they are releasing just the woman?
Give them back. (Period)
I guess if I was in the white house or was in Blair’s shoes I would say you have 24 hours to return them to me.
Then I would start firing missiles into Iran infrastructure.
Nathan – aren’t we also holding some Iranian diplomats we siezed in Iraq? I seem to recall such a claim being made.
If so, should Iran start firing missles into US infrastructure?
Unfortunately, other countries believe that they have rights too.
Blair has been trying to pull out of Iraq. I don’t think he just wants to divert to Iran. Bet there are no shots fired. But the consensus seems to be that the Brits were where they were supposed to be…http://news.bostonherald.com/international/middleEast/view.bg?articleid=191323
Given that data, the Iranians should cough up the troops. I think this is all about saving face now. The Iranians first said they wanted an apology. Tony could have done that, but would have lost face. Now the Iranians are in a pickle and don’t want to lose face…
Ben,
I do believe they were actively aiding the insurgents and that is why we took them.
Like I said, go back to rooting for you little pal’s the Iranians who are never wrong and can do whatever they want because “The Great Satan” America is bad.
Here you are justifying their actions.
It never fails to amaze me.
Mr. Huie,
Those so-called Iranian Diplomats are no more Diplomats than a CIA agent attached to an Embassy are. It’s a game all countries play.
An interesting comment from a British expert on the waterway:
“”If this happened south of where the river boundary ends, knowing the coordinates wouldn’t necessarily help us,” said Richard Schofield of King’s College in London, who is an expert on the waterway. “We have to accept the British claim with as much salt as the Iranian claim”"
http://www.kansas.com/525/story/30262.html
I have been involved recently in questions about just where lines of control exist with rivers that change course. Even in a simple environment as within the US this can be a cintentious issue. Put it in the setting of two countries that have been at war and you haev a real mess:
“But the channel shifts due to silting. Because the two countries have not agreed on updated charts, that means there is no universal agreement on exactly where the border line runs.
If the seizure occurred near the mouth of the Shatt al-Arab – which is likely – the issue becomes even more complicated because Iraq and Iran have never agreed on each others’ claim to Gulf waters near the mouth of the waterway.”
PREDICTION: They will find a face-saving compromise and release the sailors. They will probably come up with some sort of meaningless statement alluding to uncertainties about the border, location, etc.
Militants attack Iraqi, U.S. forces with chlorine bombs
Man sort of makes you wonder where all the WMDs went in Iraqi doesn’t it.
I’d heard it said that ol’ Saddam had shipped tons of chemical weapons to Iran and Syria for safe keeping. Guessing he was reading the writing on the wall and thought perhaps his buds might find a use for it down the road…say about 4 years down the road.
I don’t know what it takes to make a chlorine bomb, however, I guessing it’s not something you can mix up in the bathroom sink.
Who knows maybe GW was right after all.
Ben,
Did you see that your pals are parading that woman on TV with her confessions of doing wrong?
One for the home team, heh?
Ben,
Did you see that your pals are parading that woman on TV with her confessions of doing wrong?
One for the home team, heh?
I seem to recall the Kurdish authorities stating that they were diplomats.
And Nathan – I have NEVER said Iran does no wrong. Your quickness to jump to such a conclusion amazes me. Please show me where I have said that – or that they are my “little pals” – or that they “can do whatever they want because “The Great Satan” America is bad.” I DEFY YOU TO.
However, YOU seem to say the US can do no wrong and should be allowed to do anything WE want to do to ANYONE. That was the same attitude Captain Rogers had back in 1988, with tragic results.
Ben,
Still digging out the excuses for the home team heh?
Why wouldn’t Iran simply give a warning for the Americans to leave their water way instead of siezing the boat and crew?
Why are the Iranians Parading the POW’s onto TV with confession statements?
Nathan – my pals have done nothing of the sort. And my pals have said nothing about any purported confession. Please provide a link where “my pals” have done that.
Nathan – they are Brits, not Americans. And I don’t know why anyone did what they did.
Gee, I wonder how the US would react to an Iranian gunboat coming into urs coastal waters?
Ben,
Here you go sir:
http://news.sky.com/skynews/article/0,,30000-1257880,00.html
Isn’t it a violation of the Geneva Convention to show POW’s on TV?
Yes, it is my understanding that it is a violation. However, I didn’t recognize any of my pals there. So, your claim is not substantiated.
Ben,
The point of the question was not to illicit an answer. Of course you don’t know why the Iranians did it.
The point was to make you think of WHY would they have?
Probably so they could parade them around on TV?
I’ve been on a ship Ben. I’ve been on a ship in another country’s waters. I’ve been on a ship that was running like hell while taking fire.
Hopefully, you will never have to experience the kind of stress and fear that are associated with being in command of a ship in a firefight situation.
Hopefully, you will never have the responsibility of making a decision with only minutes to spare that right or wrong will result in men dying.
Hopefully, you will never be in a situation that as a result of you doing your job to the very best of your ability results in a terrorist attack on your wife and children.
Let me just say that I think it is very small of someone that has no idea of what they are talking about to constantly second guess Captain Rogers.
Read his book. Get the other side and then come back with your cheap shots against an honorable officer and gentleman. I dare you!
Hank
“Why wouldn’t Iran simply give a warning for the Americans to leave their water way instead of siezing the boat and crew?”
So, are you stating that Americans have entered their waters again? I hadn’t heard about that happening. Last I heard we were staying OUT of their waters this time.
Ben,
I’m sorry Ben, usually when you stick by someone and defend them, and justify their actions, they are pal’s.
so why do you do it then if you are not pals?
Ben,
Please replace my use of American with British.
I worked with them over in Iraq and consider them good guys and brothers in arms. So forgive me for refering to them as Americans.
Hank – my point had to do with itchy fingers calling for firing missles into ‘infrastructure’ rather than trying to resolve the issue. I may read his book; I’d like to know how he feels about being responsible for killing hundreds of civilians while illegally in Iranian waters (acknowledged by the US). I just hope we don’t repeat that mistake, even though there are those who owuld welcome it.
Why was your ship in another country’s waters? How would you react to another country invading OUR waters?
“Three years after the incident, Admiral William J. Crowe admitted on American television show Nightline that the Vincennes was inside Iranian territorial waters when it launched the missiles.[9] This contradicted earlier Navy claims.”
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jksonc/docs/ir655-nightline-19920701.html
“so why do you do it then if you are not pals?”
When dealing with adversaries I was taught to try to figure out where they are coming from. In this case, I want to know just what actually happened and, if in fact the british crossed the line, they should acknowledge it.
As I noted above, it actually looks more like the opposite – it is IRAN that seems to be shifting on where they say the vessel was.
Also, in dealing with an adversary, I was taught to try to find a solution rather than starting a fight.
I find it interesting that now that he is safe at home Nathan becomes a advocate for bombing other countries then again I doubts he was in that much danger in Iraq considering he was a rear in the gear kind of soldier protected by the vaunted Ugandan army in his warehouse while he had ample time to blog. And Hank I thought your 22 years as a servant of the state was in the submarine service, when was the last time a sub was under fire WW2? I think need to quit with the caveman style chest pounding about the Military being honorable men being in the military doesn’t automatically make you so. Linnie England William Calley and the Marines who raped the Iraqi girl murdered her family and set her on fire are examples to the contrary.
Is that you JR?
You sly devil you, I know your writing style.
Ben,Those are good principals when dealing with an adversary.I rather like the Golden Rule, too.
Ben,
Giving them 24 hours to release the hostages is trying to resolve the issue.
I guess I just wouldn’t want my brothers in arms sitting around being paraded around on TV any longer than needed while Iran is jerking us around diplomatically.
Ben,
Could you provide a link to the US admission of illegally entering Iranian waters during that incident?
My memory serves to tell me that they had only entered the iranian waters because they were under atack from Iranian gun boats.
“The point was to make you think of WHY would they have?”
Interesting question. My guess is that it was the action of a ‘local’ captain who was stupid. Now that it has happebed it becomes a situation of saving face.
This becomes messier when you consider the devisions that exist within Iran. The hard-liners would love nothing better than to see a violent response; that sort of thing would help the hard-liners at the expense of the “liberals” in Tehran. And, if anyone in Iran is my “pal” it would be the liberals.
A lighter note about Iran:
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/28/arts/music/28band.html
These guys might be “pals” too.
Dear Ben,
You are forcing me to again set the record straight, or at least tell the other side.
The fact (and I agree that it is a fact) that the Vincennes was in Iranian Territorial waters is not relevent to the accidental downing of the commercial airline.
At the time of the incident, Iran was mining international waters. An act of war. At the time of the accidental downing the Vincennes was in a running gun battle with Iranian gunboats. She was in Iranian waters in hot pursuit. When the airliner took off from the ‘duel purpose airport’, an airport that was also a base for Iranian F-16s, Captain Rogers had less than 4 minutes to assess the risk to his vessel and crew.
During that 4 minutes the airline was on a direct line to his vessel. The pilot did not respond to the Vincennes radio transmissions on a frequency that the airline pilot should have been monitoring. The airliner did not have its IFF in operation, it did not respond to the Vincenne’s radar queries.
It was shot down. Captain Rogers was cleared of any wrong doing.
Read his damn book! You want to know how he felt? He felt like shit! The last time I heard of his thoughts on the incident, after he had finished an honorable career and retired, he still felt like shit.
Hank
Nathan – I think Crowe’s comments are on the link I provided above.
Nathan,Geneva Convention – I thought the US canceled that?So now you expect it to apply to prisoners on our side but we do not have to follow it for prisoners we capture?
Ben,
How does showing the hostages on TV save face?
Even now you sit here defending Iran by saying they are probably just trying to save face…
This is so off the wall I don’t know if I should be sick or sad for you.
If Iran wanted to save face the quickest way to it would be to give the Hostages back with lots of apologies.
That is apparently what they are not doing.
I’ll wait for more from the local Iran apologist, Ben.
“According to the BBC documentary of 2002, Carlson identified IR655 as a civilian craft based on its radar signature, its ’squawk’ (IFF) code, and the fact that it was ascending at low speed – an attacking military aircraft would be descending towards the Vincennes at high speed.”
Note the reference to the “squawk”
The Fogarty report concluded, “The data from USS Vincennes tapes, information from USS Sides and reliable intelligence information, corroborate the fact that [Iran Air Flight 655] was on a normal commercial air flight plan profile, in the assigned airway, squawking Mode III 6760, on a continuous ascent in altitude from takeoff at Bandar Abbas to shoot-down.” The fault in the USS Vincennes lying directly in the airplane’s pathway is Captain Rogers’.
http://www.history.com/minisite.do?content_type=Minisite_Generic&content_type_id=1271&display_order=3&mini_id=1278
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iran_Air_Flight_655
Brian,
We do follow the geneva convention.
brian,
What part of the Geneva Convention has the U.S. violated?:)
Nathan – it doesn’t. And it is both wrong and stupid. I think the ‘fundies’ are doing that to cement their position at the expense of the ‘liberals’
I also think they should release them; I have said so. Unfortunately, the extremists want confrontation.
Ben,Captain Rogers was also responsible for other vessels. He was in a protective role. The AEGIS (sp?) miss identified the airliner as an F-14. I think he showed great resolve in waiting as long as he did to fire. He tried everything in the book to identify the threat before the threat became able to do harm to his vessel and the vessels he was there to protect.
Sol – I undersatnd that is the claim. However, there seem to be others who question that, notably the captain of the USS Sides.
” Captain David Carlson, commander of the USS Sides, the warship stationed near to the Vincennes at the time of the incident, is reported (Fisk, 2005) to have said that the destruction of the aircraft “marked the horrifying climax to Captain Rogers’ aggressiveness, first seen four weeks ago”. “
My fear today is that BOTH SIDES are getting itchy trigger fingers. With so much traffic – both military and civilian – in close quarters there is far too much likelihood for some sort of spark. And with some ON BOTH SIDES wanting war all it might take is a spark.
Who would have guessed that the assasination of some obscure ArchDuke in Sarajevo would drag all of Europe (and eventually the US) into war?
Ben,I pulled the info from Wikipedia. I’d like to read your source as well. Have a link?
The thing that puzzles me is why Iran would start with the British when the British are looking to pull out of the area.
I used the various references down at the bottom of their page. I don’t really trust Wiki but like it as a ‘portal.
Why the Brits? “Because they were there” (in the water). Like I commented above, even under the best of circumstances determining just where a border is in water is difficult.
The Iranians are quite familiar with the “Cold War” tactics that worked for the Soviets and Chinese for many years and employed them in that situation.
Remember the Navy “spy” plane incident (landing on Chinese soil.)
Ben,
so being aggressive is bad?Give me a break.
As I recall the Chinese eventually released the crew. Don’t recall the details but, if memory serves, it had violated airspace.
Nathan – being “overly” aggressive can be bad. When both sides do that you inevitably get war.
So negotiating is bad?
Give me a break.
My prediction stands – the Iranians will release them. Had they been my “pals” they already would have.
Ben, I agree with your prediction.
Didn’t the US ‘SPY’ plane have to land because of damage done by an aggressive Chinese fighter pilot? The ‘SPY’ plane, IIRC, was returned to us in crates, after the Chinese took it apart to research our technology.
I think you are correct on that sol. More stupidity IMO. Now that you reminded me, didn’t they collide somehow? Didn’t the Chinese cowboy buzz the larger plane?
I believe you are correct sir. And with that, good evening all. May you have a blessed night.
Hey junior!
Good to see you back, I was worried about you!
I think we’ve had this discussion before. I’m a lifetime member of the VFW. I’ve only ridden subs.
The description of the medal that qualifies me for the VFW is a little vague, we were on a secret mission. Similar missions are described in the book “Blind Man’s Bluff”.
Read the book, tell me what you think.
Hank
G’night sol. And, in view of another emotional thread, God bless …
Republican posted this as “proof” that Clark was posting over here–
Admission by WSClark on the Wichita Voice Blog…
This has been an interesting day, to say the least. I’ve been busyas Hell today, not including my time “posting” on the OTHER blog, and I’m not looking forward to tomorrow. I prefer to handle my mischief via telephone, but that just won’t work in this situation.
Posted by: Republican | March 28, 2007 at 12:18 AM
What Republican neglected to post was about half a dozen posts that preceeded that–
Man, those folks are still at it over on WE Blog.
While I was supposedly posting under multiple nics, I have made a run (actually walk) to the store, have done several (4)loads of laundry, made lunch, done some dishes, visited with my daughter that stopped by and gather my documents for my ordeal tomorrow. During that time, I also posted a few snarky comments on WV Blog, although I did not win the Snark of the Day Award.
Damn, I have to admit that I also watched a rerun of Law and Order on TNT.
I am truly enjoying watching Sheridan get all best out of shape about me while I am doing absolutely nothing. Khan is weighing in on how that my addy could be blocked, etc, when I am just sitting here in my little treehouse.
God, I don’t know who is causing all the commotion over there, but I wish I could buy them a drink!
But anyway, since the boycott began, I have not posted on WE Blog.

Now that you all can see Republican is a G-Ded liar who cut and pasted just enough to make Clark look bad, let the attacks on me the anonymous post-er begin.
