Recent Kansas political money stories the Kansas press will ignore:

http://www.kansasmeadowlark.com/2007/03-21/index.htmWeak Kansas Laws Allow “Heavy” Missouri Group to Hide Their Political Involvement in Kansas Politics.

How can a Missouri PAC, which is possibly the #2 Kansas PAC over the last two years, hide their political money spent on Kansas Politics? How can a PAC spend more money than they reported raising? $151,840 spent: $67,978 spent in Missouri + $198,300 spent in Kansas = mystery math?

http://www.kansasmeadowlark.com/2007/03-22/index.htmWere ProKanDo’s award winning political phone calls, “In the Dog House,” paid for by a PAC or a Nonprofit?

Why are the coordinated efforts of the ProKanDo PAC and the Kansans for Consumer Privacy Protection non-profit exempt from Kansas Law?

Iraq says may be near anti-Qaeda deal with rebelsBy Ross Colvin 2 hours, 37 minutes agoBAGHDAD (Reuters) – A senior Iraqi official said on Thursday the government was holding talks with some major insurgent groups that might be nearing a point where a number would join a fight to drive al Qaeda out ofTop of Form 1???????Bottom of Form 1″http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Iraq“.?Saad Yousif al-Muttalibi, international affairs director at the National Dialogue and Reconciliation Ministry, said the talks were designed to persuade the groups to halt guerrilla warfare against the government and help defeat al Qaeda.”We’ve already established links and contacts with major insurgent groups,” Muttalibi told the BBC in an interview.”One of the aims is to join with them into the fight against al Qaeda. We are almost getting there and to join forces to attack al Qaeda to get them out of Iraq,” he said.No Iraqi officials were immediately available to elaborate on Muttalibi’s comments.Insurgents draw support from Iraq’s Sunni Arab minority, once dominant underTop of Form 2???????Bottom of Form 2″http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=Saddam+Hussein“.The western Anbar province has been a hotbed for the insurgency but since last September there has been a mounting power struggle in the area between al Qaeda, which has non-Iraqi Arabs as its leaders, and fellow Sunnis who oppose the group.Increasing sectarian violence between Sunnis and Iraq’s majority Shi’ite Muslim community has become an additional security concern in the country.Shi’ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki, who heads a coalition government of Shi’ites, Sunnis and Kurds, has ordered a major crackdown against insurgents and sectarian violence in Baghdad.Top of Form 3???????Bottom of Form 3″http://search.news.yahoo.com/search/news/?p=President+Bush“ is sending about 26,000 more U.S. troops to Iraq, mainly to back the crackdown in Baghdad.Iraqi Defense Minister Abdel Qader Jassim said on Wednesday the beefing up of the U.S. military presence in Iraq could last for months but was unlikely to extend into 2008.IRAQI TROOPSPrevious Baghdad crackdowns foundered partly because Iraq failed to provide as many of its own troops as promised.Jassim told reporters during a visit to London two Iraqi brigades of 4,000-5,000 troops each had arrived in Baghdad and nearby Diyala province and that two more would arrive in the next week or two.He said the crackdown had succeeded so far in reducing killings by sectarian death squads and criminal gangs.Maliki’s office said U.S. forces had released a senior aide to Shi’ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr on the orders of the prime minister. Ahmed Shibani had been held for more than two years. The U.S. military said: “In consultation with (Maliki), and following his request, coalition leaders determined that Sheik Shibani … could play a potentially important role in helping to moderate extremism and foster reconciliation in Iraq.”Sadr is an anti-U.S. cleric who is also the leader of the Mehdi Army militia, which Washington has called the greatest threat to security in Iraq.Shibani’s release is likely to boost the standing of Maliki, an Islamist who relies on Sadr for political support. The Sadrist movement holds a quarter of the parliamentary seats in the Shi’ite Alliance. The Sadrists hold several ministries.Shibani was arrested in the city of Najaf with another 17 Sadr followers on accusations of possessing heavy weapons. Last year, an Iraqi court found no evidence against Shibani and his colleagues but U.S. forces kept him in detention.Shi’ite officials said Maliki and the Sadrists had had a tense relationship in the past few months, particularly since the launch of the Baghdad crackdown in which Maliki pledged to tackle both Shi’ite and Sunni militants.”The Sadrists saw the Baghdad plan as against them. The release will put it back on track,” said a senior Shi’ite Alliance official. “Maliki will be their favorite again.”U.S. and Iraqi forces have killed or arrested hundreds of Sadr’s followers since the crackdown started. They extended the crackdown into the Sadr City district, a Mehdi Army stronghold, but have met little resistance and U.S. commanders say senior militants appear to have left the capital.

Interesting assertion, “GOBN”. You have any facts/proof that the city is going to tear down the Boat House? Or are you just projecting your fantasy as fact?

This is a perfect case of “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”. The City was notified that West Bank stage was unsafe, with rotting boards, human feces piling up, structural dangers. Had the City not torn it down promptly after being informed of the condition and someone got hurt, then the screaming would have been loud and long about the city’s ‘neglect’ in not tearing it down.

Funny..I can see city hall every day, and I can’t see the target painted on the building…

I can’t speak for the others, but I’ve posted infrequently for quite some time now. You don’t have to go back 18 months to find posts by me and back in the beginning, I used to post a lot under another nic. I usually don’t have time for this kind of activity but I’m laid-up for a few weeks, so I’ve been posting more often. Since it’s a lot quieter around here it’s a lot easer to post. My comments don’t get lost among all the insults and arguing.Even though I only agree with about half the opinions by you and the rest of the Liberal bloggers, I do miss you all and look forward to your return. Have you checked your property tax statements? I think the county should offer to buy any property at 95% of it’s county appraised value. Offer that to me and SOLD! How can houses that are selling for $50,000 to $60,000 be appraised at $70,000 to $85,000?

Justa Guy,I live in the area code mentioned. My tax statement was shocking. It seems a little strange that property values would go up so much when you consider what’s happening in the housing market right now.Make no mistake; this is just another way for the county to get more of your money and still be able to say they’re holding the line on raising taxes.

The Gander Mountain construction did not necessitate the demolition of the meeting rooms.

But, whoever it is – linked a number of LJWorld articles – ones that detailed a strip mining procedure that left a lot of trouble behind. It’s common knowledge that my father mined when I was a kid – but that wasn’t even in this State, so someone is hunting the Net to find some sort of similarities to me….but they hit on the wrong track.

I CAN be found on the Net, but, thankfully in an entirely different area than anyone here knows about.

Except of course for my relative who could be playing a sneaky trick on me. I wouldn’t put it past him…he’s a pill…and he’s in the ‘inner circle’ of liberal posters who left here. They don’t know it of course, but he told me yesterday that he had to promise he didn’t have any links to me….and the old fart said that…just to keep his cover.

I think it might be him doing this latest trick.

In which case – I’m gonna have to come down to Wichita and open a can of Whoop Ass – but just a little can…..cuz he knows I still love him.

Concerning the IP address and myself having a typepad type blog, it’s very easy to find out the IP of someone. I never check them, because I don’t care who uses my board as long as they are civil and not profane.

The only useful thing about knowing one’s IP with this type of Blog software is that you can block them from commenting.

If one wanted to get nasty if the commenter was threatening or whatever, is that you have the IP that can be traced exactly back to their Internet Provider, (COX, SBC, etc.) and have their Provider block access by using the MAC number of their router or computer.

But hey, it’s too early for that kind of stuff and I’m on a bisquit and gravy mellow feeling right about now. :)

No wonder I had no sensibility investment in the West Bank Stage, I wasn’t in Wichita from 87 to 89 that often when it was built. Didn’t know the story why it was constructed.

Gone now and City says they will consider a brand new music stage in the future?

    That’s debatable.

Where is that on the list of needed downtown improvements? Outdoor concerts can always be on back of flat beds or temporary stages.

Some concerts need a better temporary location because of crowd size, than sticking a stage in one place.

The news of Library folks wanting a new building placed on west side of the river, I can’t imagine where yet. That would have importance of placement before any new west bank stage.

The Boathouse, who cares! It wasn’t really a boathouse. That definition needs a slip or dock, rents boats of some kind.

If the promise exists, lets create a real functioning boathouse elsewhere, that rents boats for use on the river and has meeting or restaurant space, let Waterwalk tear that fake boathouse down.

I don’t see the love for the Boathouse, even though that building had a storied past and Bill Koch’s investment money. It was a nice place to have meetings that’s about it. Some used it for weddings. It can be replaced.

Who pays for the replacement is the question.

The replacement for that boathouse should be desired. Why anyone wants that old building, I can’t figure out. The argument is, whoever tears it down, value of it gets put in a new boathouse plan.

Why is porn considered constitutionally protected “free speech? What a crock.

And what kind of judge would consider the “right” to view on line porn more important than societies responsibility to protect its children?

    What’s porn to you, outlander?

Some think a skimpy bikini is obscene. Fat, hairy back guy with shirts off are obscene to me. I’d rather see women with nice racks go topless. I like to see good bodies on a beach.

The human body is a good thing. There is decorum, respect for place of time, majority of hours we have our clothes on, but nothing wrong with nudity.

Got a good body, flaunt it within whatever limits. Some want to get paid to take their clothes off, how easy work is that?

Some do overcome their “porn” work, like Vanessa Williams. A new star on Hollywood Walk of Fame. Grammy winner and respected movie actress after losing her crown as Miss America. She did some amateur nude scenes.

There is porn that is degrading, domineering and outrageous.

But sexuality has its protected place and there is the accepted basic fact of nudity. People have a right to be nude.

Nudity can be sold, it has an audience.

What’s worse nudity or alcohol? Both could warp the mind and cause addictions. But “porn” doesn’t cause bad driving like drunk drivers. Criminals use both excuses to explain some bad behaviors.

Some basketball player and other stories pop up of people watching porn in their cars on those installed mini TV’s. Watching porn while driving is a crime. Bad drivers because of porn do exist, occasionally.

Not as often, like drunk drivers!

Don’t start any religious or morals, because representative’s of those movements have abused all common sense. They promote the outrage of porn, but have mistresses or gay adventures. Some are pedophiles and manipulators but hide behind their fake public face. The list is long with fake moralists.

Posted by: outlander | March 22, 2007 at 03:28 PM

I’ll take a stab at it. Because it’s more “freedom of expression”. Is Michelangelo’s David pornography? I don’t think so, and I don’t think you do either. But there are those that would consider it to be porn. Where do you draw the line. Is porn nudity, period? Or is porn the sexual act? Is porn a picture of a barebreasted woman feeding her child?

And if you have children, you just have to try to limit their exposure as much as you see fit. What, you never found your dad’s Playboys and took them to school to show your friends?

  40. GSheridan
    Posted March 22, 2007 at 3:58 pm | Permalink

Obviously, there are various ‘levels’ of porn. From a retail standpoint, family magazine racks can carry certain milder forms, and from there – the sellers become more selective – with the hard core stuff being sold usually only in ‘adult’ stores and perhaps on the Net.

The problem – to me – with porn, is NOT folks expressing themselves, and others getting their jollies by watching – but the effect it has on the female psyche.

And I find it disturbing that most, if not all, serial killers have admitted to being addicted to some form of porn, usually starting with the mild stuff and progressing to the rough stuff.

It begs the question – WHERE is the determining line in porn? What is OVER the line?

We KNOW child porn is over the line – but what about 18 year olds that LOOK much younger? What does it say about a man who purchases those kinds of porn? Does he have a problem? Even if the girl is 18 – why is it so important for him to have her look 12? I think that’s kind of sick – but it’s legal.

    And what about NAMBLA?

    Disgusting perverts.

  41. TDT
    Posted March 22, 2007 at 4:09 pm | Permalink

    And what about NAMBLA?

GS – What is NAMBLA? I agree with you on the psyche of females, porn can be degrading. Truly I think it can be degrading for males as well.

And you point out the fact that they push for some 18 year olds to look like they are 12. What about the 5, 6, 7 etc. year olds that are paraded in beauty pageants that are made up and dressed to look like 18 year olds. I find THAT offensive!!

    outlander,

I’m not suggesting you like porn. It’s there like other vices people have to overcome.

My having children has nothing to do with it. I don’t have any yet.

I respect other people’s children and what they are influenced by.

Protect your computers at home, library, on TV all you want. Filter agents are great, keep them updated.

But don’t be surprised how its legal for nudity to exist. Smart people have been battling that out for a long time and porn restrictions are always shot down when they reach the highest courts.

    Other vices are the problems.

Worse things like alcohol and tobacco are respected industries that cause too much disease and death with their products.

Other issues can be brought up, how porn stores affect the community. That’s a worthwhile discussion. Strip bars shouldn’t be near schools and residential homes. All issues in a community can be discussed, but at home, there is the protected place forindividuals to “enjoy” their vices.

Can drink, smoke and watch porn at home. Some porn is highly illegal and terrible. Criminal actions happen, someone films it.

That stuff shouldn’t be pushed on the net for anyone to see with a search engine.

Stories about bestiality really disturbs me. That is no constitutional protection for that. That’s beyond porn. It’s worse. What’s drives a person to get with an animal. It happens more often than we might think!

Some very weird guys out there. Very weird and some might wear suits during the day. Have jobs of importance.

I respect basic nudity more than the outrageous actions. I respect the legality of that product.

Many can choose not watch porn, drink or smoke. Life could be great.

Psychological reasons why people take clothes off (for money). Why some get “jollies” from looking at porn (boredom, insecurity), not everyone will have serial rapists and killers thoughts.

Why take that route in life, to be filmed or photographed nekkid, laziness or realization that making money using a body is easier than maximizing a mind.

If $1000 can be made taking clothes off, who makes that a day in their real job?

Some are drug addicted and need cash desperately. Need funds for other bills to take care of. Better to have a picture taken, than be out in the street hustling or robbing others.

The nude life exists while people have good bodies. Its weird though, some terrible body people are making a lot of money because their so weird looking.

Ugly guys have a lot of female fans. Hairy, fat guys, its surprising.

Some guys like overweight women. Way too many curves and flab. Guys like it!Humans are complex creatures.

Every guy Catch a Predator show captures is bizarre. No matter how normal their life might be.

It’s amazing who keeps showing up to those stings, a variety of well respected jobs the men sometimes have.

Do we have increased women teachers and students getting together or is it normal but those stories are now being publicized nationally.

It’s routine for some female teachers, have relations with students. Some men teachers are caught and get worse jail sentences.

Catch a Predator claims to never captured a woman, but they exist. Women are capable of being predators too. They do it a different way than online conversations.

Guy recently shot a teenage boy, his teacher wife had an affair with.

That would be tough to take, but I wouldn’t go that far. I can walk away from any “love”, now. If she disrespects marriage vows, I can instantly lose attraction for for her. If she wants to be with a teenage boy, that’s her future life.

I do argue having a hyphen when I’m married. Quick separation of married name can occur with situations like that.

Some guys can’t let her go that fast.

Some guys don’t want to let her go but try to contact other girls and women online. Guys have affairs and wife is supposed to accept it?

    Some do. (Hillary)

    Repub,

For you, all the wanna be Prez that had affairs. Politicians from Bob Dole to now. Weird dudes. No way they should be considered the highest office.

But you did mention being a moderate and liking Bill Richardson, only one wife I assume. No freaky online persona?I don’t know those personal details about him.

Bill Richardson has lots of experience under his belt in State and Federal.

    * Governor of New Mexico, 2003-present* U.S. Secretary of Energy, 1998-2001* U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations, 1997-1998* Representative, United States House of Representatives, 1983-1997

The highest thing in his favor is his calm demeanor.

    Repub,

It is the “belt” that’s most important.

Let’s hope that Bill keeps his buckled.

Richardson is well qualified to be President, but its more than that.

Newt Gingrich says personal lives can’t be held against politicians, he’s very wrong.

Can Richardson be President on the Dem side with Hillary, Obama? Seems more like he would partner as VP for Hillary if his run for the nomination fails. Maybe Hillary is his VP, if she fails.

Who is Obama’s choice as VP? I think it must be new NY gov Eliot Spitzer. Money hawk watching closely the federal pork barrel is necessary.

On the Dem side, a lot is unsettled.

On the Repub side, who is the front runner. Mormon Romney values or Guilani that has had affairs.

We don’t know on both sides until Feb, next year.

Out, as someone who raised three kids and have teenage grandkids, I can tell you that there is no effective way to shield your kids from the world. The best you can do is teach them early and often how to deal with it.

But yes, Kahn,The fact that he is for civil unions and more rights later, suggests he is puffing on the pipe … would it not?

The claim that Porn leads to being a rapist or serial killer is misleading in that it is more happenstance than a real link. It becomes more an excuse like the “Twinkie” defense, Ted Bundy Claim while trying to forestall his execution that porn was what drove him to kill. Was jumped on by the anti-porn groups as proof. Several groups actually fought to spare Bundy so he could be a spokes man for the cause.Though it might have aided him in some fantasy, the argument was a “straw man” since porn at the time was a billion dollars a year business, I do not think Bundy had that kind of money. That leaves a great number of other to pay that money and it just does not turn them into a Bundy.

The same argument for the cause of rape and murder being drinking milk or eating PB&J sandwiches as a child could be made using the logic.

I admit that it said something disheartening about a society where the average woman has more earning potential by using her body in some fashion instead of her mind. But then that is also human nature, girls learn early that with a smile or some attention paid. they get their way most of the time, the male of our species is very visually orient. Often the vision of a attractive woman can be more exciting then the actual physical encounter.

That is a valid point, one person’s porn is another person’s art. That is why often the definition of porn is so open to states definition. The only time I can recall that the SCOTUS has rule on “Child porn” in a definition had been that the mere image of someone under the age of 18 being nude is not child porn. There has to be a sexual act, touching in a sexual manner by oneself or another, the simulated sex act, or the sole intent to bring sexual arousal. They ruled this because several parents were being charged with Child porn for the “Bath photos” that most parents take of their child. FYI, from my time as a jailor, the leading source of images collected by Pedophiles is not Sweden, Russia or the orient. But Sears and Roebuck, Penny’s and Parents magazine. Most often bathing suits and underwear, but not limited to those.

Porn has existed since the first cave man learned to draw a picture on the cave wall.LoL we had surf watch on the first computer we owned. My youngest one day was searching for videos of Bigfoot. Surf watch would not allow him to watch one called “the snow walker video”. I then started trying to figure out what it would and would not allow. To my surprise I could open a site that sold Corsets with photos of real women wearing nothing but a midriff corset and nude otherwise. But not a video of a hairy creature walking down a mountain side!

The wing that was attached to the Boathouse was an addition built on to it and wasn’t part of the orginal building.

But that being said. It was more than just meeting rooms. There was also locker rooms equiped with showers and an offsite storage building.

Within those meeting rooms also housed the utlities. The feeder and branch circuit boxes for the entire building, including all the telecommunication equipment.

I have no idea why they tore that wing down. But since it is, the Boathouse has absolutely no utilities, except for water. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the meter is pulled on that one as well.

But hardly anybody used those meeting rooms. It was leased out to a program called Center for Management Development. They conducted BS cert and professional development classes. Guess who ran the organization?

But the wife of Chris Churches, our former long time City Manager. After he left and died, the city no longer had use for the Boathouse.

The city has other plans with that spot. Might as well let them do it. As much as I love the Boathouse and have memories attached to it. It’s not worth saving now.

Oh well, for us old farts, that was never a boathouse anyway. The real boathouse was on Murdock and the river in Riverside Park. I have some pretty good memories attached to that place, my dad renting canoes there and spending afternoons on the river. Too bad it’s no longer there!

was told one locally, some guy and a duck. A real criminal case. That accusation was nutty to believe, but apparently it was true. Guy and a duck?

It is true I met him in the mid 80s when I was a jailor. And my son met him recently, my son is a prison guard… He is still in prison!

Wow, writerdog…so its true. I heard that happened around Eastborough lake, possibly.

Couldn’t believe that guy and duck story. Glad the freak is still in prison. Ducks are safer! They would prefer hunters and buckshot.

It’s amazing how those kind of stories keep popping up and they are real.

It was in Riverside park at the duck pond. I have heard that they investigated him for the BTK killings.

He was not the only one though, there was a guy that sold some chickens and the new owner noticed that the chickens were acting very strangely. It was discovered that the previous owner had been having sex with the chickens!

The most notable in my mind was the guy that got forty some years for having sex with a horse. He awoke one Saturday morning feeling very depressed, he started drinking whiskey and smoking grass off and on all day. Three days later he awoke in the city holding cell in the Sedgwick county jail and every time he asked why he was in jail? To which both the jailers and city PSOs would simply answer by whinnying like a horse. Finally the guy’s P.O. called him down to the third floor and ask “Richard” if he understood the charges against him? It was the first time he actually saw on paper what he was being charged with, “Ah I do not remember what happen. But I know what criminal burglary is and what criminal damage to property is. But what is this about criminal sodomy?”.

With out skipping a beat, his P.O. matter of fact-ly said “You broke into a stable… took a crowbar and shoved it in to a pure breed Arabian mare’s anus, turning it till the horse fall to the ground… and made so much noise that the owner came out and caught you in the act of having sex with his horse.”

“Ahh..OK…NOOOO!” was Richard’s answer, he spend over two years in the Sedgwick county jail before finally ending up in Lancing S.P. It became not a matter of guilt or not guilty as Richard pleaded “No-low-contender” (sorry to our Lawyer friends here I could not remember how to spell that) which is basically he was not pleading guilty but he was not fighting the charges either. The real problem was that they were not sure if to send him to the prison or the state mental hospital? After he was told that he was being sentenced to forty some years. One of his last statements to me was, “ You know the worst thing about this is I really do not remember any of it! I mean I hate to think I would do something like that… I love animals and have trouble bring myself to kill a fly. But if I did what they say I did, I do not want to be with other people.I am now looking at spending the rest of my life in prison for something I can not say I even did! That is the worst part of this..”.
