I got first post!Good morning all.
The Beagle editorial on Mayans and Brewer in essence stated that neither candidate had no specific vision or plan, paticularly in the area of public safety. The Board let them off the hook by not asking for specifics on the candidates plans for improving public safety. Ask them what they think of cameras in patrol cars and how will they be funded? Ask them about the use of cameras in high crime areas, like several larger cities are using to fight crime. How do they feel about a pay raise for police officers? If not pinned down, candidates will get away with vague answers and thoughts of “… we;ll have to study that..”. With their years of experience I’m sure they have an opinion on how public safety can be improved — but you have to ask them.
The Climate Debate is Over: It’s Time for Action!February 02, 2007
With the strongest warnings yet from the international scientific community on the threat of dangerous climate change just published, it’s clearly time to match strengths of scientific warnings with determined action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Strongest warning on climate change demands action
The latest report on the science of climate change from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) meeting in Paris, concluded that continuing polluting business-as-usual practices is likely to increase global average temperatures between 1.1°C and 6.4° C above 1980-1999 levels by 2095, leading to more droughts, heatwaves, floods and stronger hurricanes, rapid melting of ice-sheets and rapidly rising sea levels.
Stephanie Tunmore, Greenpeace climate campaigner who was at the meeting in Paris said, “The good news is our understanding of the climate system and our impact on it has improved immensely. The bad news is that the more we know, the more precarious the future looks. There’s a clear message to Governments here, and the window for action is narrowing fast. If the last IPCC report was a wake up call, this one is a screaming siren.”

Ask HillaryHillary Clinton goes to a primary school in Ithaca, New York to talk about the world. After her talk she offers question time.
One little boy puts up his hand, and the Senator asks him what his name is.”Kenneth”, came the reply.”And what is your question, Kenneth?”"I have three questions, Ma-am: First – whatever happened to your medical health care plan? Second – why would you run for President after your husband shamed the office? And third – whatever happened to all those things you took when you left the White House?”Just then the bell rings for recess. Hillary Clinton informs the kiddies that they will continue after recess. When they resume Hillary says, “OK where were we? Oh, that’s right, question time. Who has a question?”This time a different little boy puts his hand up; Hillary points him out and asks him what his name is.”Larry,” he said.”And what is your question?”"I have five questions: First – whatever happened to your medical health care plan? Second – why would you run for President after your husband shamed the office? Third – whatever happened to all those things you took when you left the White House? Fourth – why did the recess bell go off 20 minutes early? And fifth – what happened to Kenneth?”
A man died and went to heaven. As he stood in front of St. Peter atthe Pearly Gates, he saw a huge wall of clocks behind him. He asked,”What are all those clocks?”St. Peter answered, “Those are Lie-Clocks. Everyone on Earth has a Lie-Clock.Every time you lie, the hands on your clock will move.”"Oh,” said the man, “whose clock is that?”"That’s Mother Teresa’s. The hands have never moved, indicating that she never told a lie.”"Incredible,” said the man. “And whose clock is that one?”St. Peter responded, “That’s Abraham Lincoln’s clock. The hands havemoved twice, telling us that Abe told only two lies in his entire Life.”"Where’s Hillary Clinton’s clock?” asked the man.”Hillary’s clock is in Jesus’ office. He’s using it as a ceiling fan.”

I just realized something, I apologize… Now I’m off to stick my foot in my mouth somewhere else…
Regarding:”This morning, at about 11am, a Boy Scout was found alive in North Carolina after being lost for 4 days….” as reported in the Citizen Media website for Pratt Kansas. Read the entire article (including an exclusive pic) with more information about the dog, Gandalf and owner Misha, and their new found “fame”. The author is a relative of Misha and a Kansas stormchaser too.

I wanted GSheridan to be here today for the unveiling of her identity. *shrug*
http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2007/mar/21/earths_wounds_run_deep/
Perhaps if she graces us with her presence later.
What’s with all the articles on Cherokee County mines?
I have relatives down there and visit,it’s a pleasant county with lots of nice people.
Perhaps you should ask “GSheridan” (ahem)?
Who cares who GSheridan is or isn’t?
Maybe you want to announce your real name on this Blog?
No?
nemesis:
Do you have a point to make here? If so, make it.
But “outing” someone is generally disfavored here; we all write under our own chosen names, and desire our privacy for various reasons. You, yourself, write under a psuedonym. I presume you do so for a reason.
If you wish to challenge what GSheridan says, ideologically or factually, fine. But attacking that position personally attacking, or “outing” the writer, is cheap, and avoids the hard intellectual work of actually thinking through the position.
Frankly, it’s a common tactic of those who have no longer seen fit to grace us with their presence. I hope you’re better than that.
re: outing identities
GMC says “Frankly, it’s a common tactic of those who have no longer seen fit to grace us with their presence. I hope you’re better than that.”
Common tactic GMC? It has happened to YOU and that is too bad. But that hardly makes it a “common tactic”! I invite you to back up your claim or retract it.
I do not know what is up with the GSheridan thing. SHE HERSELF said yesterday she has no problem being identified here. I DO wish if there were any “there” there it would be demonstrated a little less cryptically.
I am amused. Do you feel better?
All things in the fullness of time.
nemesis does spell his/her name in small letters. Perhaps it is a real display of his/her fortitude on backing up his/her claims.
I say nemesis has no cajones figuratively or literally.
I’m not much for games. Whoever that is seems to have been wearing a different nic yesterday.
If you have something to say then say it. I’ve no time for riddles.
I have no intention of retracting anything, JR. Nor will I take the time to dig through the archives to “prove” same. We both know it’s true; it’s a tactic you have used yourself, attacking the motives or background of a writer rather than challenge what is said – i.e. your very own labeling of GSheridan as a “fossil fuels shill.”
How convenient to have such a short memory.
I am amused. I will wait for the reappearance of “GSheridan” to say more.
If you are concerned about the mystery surrounding her, perhaps you should ask “her” or “her husband” about the details.
rofl
Oh nemesis…here I thought you had something important to say. Now I realize you just want attention.
May I suggest counseling.

Hey, does KSFRMGrrrl post here anymore?
GMC
YOU accused people not here of reularly outing peoples identities. NOW you are trying to squirm out of it by watering down your statement. I have never “outed” anyone here. I use against others only what they bring.
“nemesis”
Bring it or can it.
I kind of think this new/old poster isn’t her, because she would know better than to try and out me.
nemesis/airplane sure was all hyped up. Now that GS is here….
Yes, I, like so many others, are waiting…..
GMC – If I thought for a minute that he/she knew who I was – I would not have invited them to ’spill the beans.’
But, they have posted a number of links to LJWorld articles that have nothing whatsoever to do with me – so if the person they think I am is in anyway involved with those articles – their just steeped in one more conspiracy theory.
Benefit of doubt, maybe he/she is working or something. I’ll go cook another bag of popcorn. Butter anyone?
Whats the big deal anyway. I am not local, so maybe I find solice in that, but I have shared a ton of personal info on this site. What’s the biggie?
I detect spinelessness…
However, there IS a slim chance that the person from the ‘other side’ who has been in contact with me ‘might’ have told someone – I sincerely doubt it. He is a distant relative of mine and although he is one of the lesser ‘liberals’ on the board, blood is thicker than water.
NOTE RE: VOTED TODAY RATHER THAN WAIT UNTIL APRIL 3RD. I voted today in the election offices on first floor of the “historic” Sedgwick County Courthouse across Main Street from regular Courthouse. It took about two minutes total.
One thing I should have remembered but didn’t — in the school board election, voters vote on all district school board candidates (three positions on ballot) as well as the one at-large school board position.
In one of the school board districts, not my own district, unfortunately I wasn’t prepared to select one of the two candidates to vote for … so I didn’t vote for either one in that district.
Voting for the mayor and city councilmen is different than the school elections. In the city selection, voters only vote on the council candidate from their own district as well as the Mayor who runs at-large.
Whatever is going on is getting curiouser and curiouser …
ahhhh, but is blood thicker than the butter on my popcorn? As I wait, it congeals. Sad sad. GS, will your life be shattered if your real name, address, occupation are revealed?
I am a code jockey in Michigan. Just moved to Duplain Township – out in the sticks.Yup, my life as I knew it is now over. Oh the agony, oh the pain of others knowing who/what/where I am. Whatever shall I do now???
I have always speculated that there is a reason for GSheridan’s pro fossil fuels posts.
Perhaps she will share it with us?
I admit, I’m a shill for Hugo Chavez and his Oil Company. Later on, we are going out for some cabrito tacos.
No Soldev, my life wont be shattered, but I wouldn’t care too much for it.
BTW – blood usually IS thicker than melted butter. But, if the butter is cold…well, that’s a different story altogether, isn’t it?
JR – your speculations were wrong before – and they are still wrong.
HAHAHA. Yup. If ya can’t trust family, well, they really aren’t family no are they.
What I accused, JR, is attacking a person’s background or perceived interest rather than challenging the statements made. That can include “outing,” and yes, that has been thankfully rare. It is not limited to same, however.
And attacking a person’s background is indeed intellectually lazy, and avoids having to challenge “what” is said. It’s much easier to attack “who” said it. Which is how we end up with the nastiness we ended up with.
BTW – after scanning the postings of our ‘boycotters,’ I just gotta say they are nothing if not amazing for the levels of arrogance and self-rightousness. HOW DARE, in their eyes, people come on to THEIR web site and, God forbid, DISAGREE with them!! That cannot be tolerated. And this even as they pat themselves on the back for their tolerance.
None are so foolish as those who fool themselves.
Interestingly, they have been musing about “inviting” some of the more “moderate” conservatives. Wow. They even want to dictate which opinions they are willing to even consider. I consider myself a moderate conservative, at least on some issues, but if invited, I will decline. I have no intention of conforming my thought to their (or anyone else’s) acceptable standards.
Typical from the left. Free speech for me, but not for thee.
It might be great fun, however, to go over en masse and disrupt the love-fest . . . .
Nah.
To CF, WS, and Co: BOO!!! Look, a scary conservative!
Yesterday aircraft/nemesis made comments eluding that he knew something dark and sinister about me.
Today, he does the same.
I’ve invited him/her to share…but he/she hides like a recalcitrant child who just got caught with their arm in the cookie jar.
What’s up with that?
And can anyone tell me why it was so nice when they were busy boycotting? But now, once again, the trashing is begining?
I think this behavior is typical of the vast majority of the boycotters, but not all of them.
JR -
before I can even answer, you, there ya go again, proving me right!
” . . . GSheridan’s pro fossil fuels posts.”
That’s so much easier than thinking, isn’t it?
aircraft/nemesis,
Come out….come out….where ever you are.
My lunch hour wont last forever.
Zzzzzzz
Let me think here…..hmmmmmm….
Who was it, before they picked up their marbles and ran home, that was sooooo obsessed with me that they followed me to other boards and reposted my words from there…here?
Again, benefit of the doubt, biplane/nemishits might just be working or something.
I would lay odds on the something…
Okay – the suspense is killing me.
I have to do it.
I HAVE to OUT myself.
Here it is – the reason I’m PRO fossil fuel energy…..
I….er…..um…
I’m actually the computerized center of a power plant that has developed an ‘artificial intelligence’ and is now running amok, controlling not only the plant, but deciding when, and when NOT to release electrical energy to consumers.
On top of that – I’ve commandeered the communication systems and now post on blogs, write letters to congressmen, and even make unsolicited sales calls trying to foster more support for my food….coal.
Yum.
Set objectReference = nothing
HAHAHA
Now I’ve foiled your plot to consume the world’s coal supplies.
HAHAHAHHAHA
Dastardly machines anyway.
okay, boring…off to be productive.
Right??? Anyone have biplane’s email? Should we find someone who can contact him/her and let him/her know that the object of his/her obsession is lying in wait????
Sorry, I’m password protected, you must have Administrator rights. lol
I really don’t think nemesis/aircraft is busy, yesterday I asked him/her to belly up to the bar, and he/she made some snide comments, but slithered away.
I’m pretty sure I know who this is. Not 100% sure, but I think I know.
Now, work sadly beckons.
Toodles.
I’m sure nemesis will return once I’m gone and the coast is clear.
lol
Man this place is DEAD anymore? What the hell????
Sedgwick County left out again?

One backed by the gambling industry calls for casinos and slot machines at pari-mutuel race tracks, such as the Greyhound Park north of Wichita. Another allows casinos in counties that border out-of-state counties with a casino, and the third allows state-owned and operated casinos.
City tore down the West Bank Stage…
Didn’t Tony or Joe wonder about that thing.
I read both candidates for Mayor said Library folks are looking for a new spot for their larger desired building on west side of the river.
They tore dowm the West bank stage? How stupid!
GSheridan
I am confident I know who you are specualting about. They are NOT here.
GMC
Your original post accused people not here of making a common tact of outing identities of posters. Yeah it happened to YOU. But your case is unique.
I call GSheridan a shill for fossil fuels because well she is. How else would you explain advocacy for the building a power plant that cannot be demonstrated as needed? And the constant unprovoked shots on Al Gore and global warming science. An almost willful refusal to ccnsider that science. Why do that if there is no personal interest?
Hey feel free to call me a shill for the environment. I’d consider that an honor!
All that said? I wish the mysterious multi nic would either put the gun away or fire it. I’ve no patience for intrigue.
JR -
“How else would you explain advocacy for the building a power plant that cannot be demonstrated as needed? And the constant unprovoked shots on Al Gore and global warming science.”
Add “in my opinion” to the inability to demonstrate need for the power plant, and the “in my opinion” to the global warming science, and you’re right.
The problem, however, is rather than taking apart the argument, many simply attacked the poster, in this case, dismissing GSheridan as a “fossil fuels shill” as if such a label disqualified anything she had to say. It dismisses the poster without dealing with the position.
I frankly don’t remember the details of the particular discussion; I didn’t post on it, I don’t think, as it didn’t hold a lot of interest for me. But is it inconcievable that a person may favor building power plants, or have a differeing opinion on global warming science(?) without doing so because of a hidden interest, financial or otherwise? I don’t think so.
I even joked that you were pushing Gore’s movie (it comes out of Hollywood – Fantasyland, USA; need I say more?) so hard, perhaps you were getting a percentage! If that were true, would it automatically make your advocacy for the point of view expressed so easily dismissed by pointing out the financial interest? I don’t think so.
That’s the point. There was far too much of that before, and, yes, that was a common tactic of those no longer with us.
JR – it is fair to call me a ’shill’ for fossil fuels; I see the benefit and I try to enlighten others. You are wrong, however, when you insinuate there is some ‘financial’ reason for me advocating coal-fired power. And (in my opinion) I have demonstrated the need for more electricity. I can’t help it if you have a different standard of ‘need.’
As far as me claiming these are some of the ‘boycotter’s,’ that remains to be seen, but since they have gone over ages-old posts of mine – it seems a fair assumption.
I don’t follow them around, I have no interest in them, but they, it seems are still obsessed with me. I visited their lonely blog once last week, and I don’t care to go see it again.
If you are fair – you will admit that the shots I take at Global Warming are ones that experts have already taken. And far from the debate being over – it hasn’t even begun. More scientists are speaking out daily against what Gore claims to be ‘fact.’
I hope that the boycotter’s will not return – but some have, and whomever aircraft/nemesis is – appears to be of their ilk. Why target me otherwise?
GSheridan,
“More scientists are speaking out daily against what Gore claims to be ‘fact.’”
Please name some of the new ones.
“…explain advocacy for the building a power plant that cannot be demonstrated as needed?”
I have asked this before, but the eco-nuts chose not to answer. Why would someone spend millions to build something, anything, that was not needed? Not counting some of the things the Wichita taxpayers are now subsidizing. Hmmmmmmmmmmm?
GS and all others~~
Who cares who comes and goes on this (any) blog?
The only criteria for posting is decency. Left or Right. It don’t matter.Don’t be hatin’, and anyone can post.
GMC
You might like to reserve comment on matters you are not better familiar with.
I invited GSheridan to demonstrate that the power plant was necessary. I did that several times. She could not do so. I asked further questions. “Will the plant replace an aging, dirtier plant? Well no. Her arguement was reduced to “build it because I think it is a good idea”. Ok….let’s build power plants for no other reason than a few think it is a good idea? Sorry I don’t see it.
I asked her if she had seen the documentary (by an INDEPENDENT FILMAKER incidentally not “Hollywood fantasy land USA”) on Al Gore. Well no she hadn’t. She can’t stand to look at Gore.
Ok.
So I observed that maybe she should not attack a thing (she started it) unless she better exposed herself to it.
She’s since committed to maybe seeing the film.
I think I have been eminently fair.
In addition? I have asked that her cryptic attacker here either put up or shut up.
Do not look to me for a case prosecutor. Just you keep in touch with those GOOD words on bad behavior you posted yesterday.
“Why would someone spend millions to build something, anything, that was not needed?”
Dear mr jr/failed economics:Riddle me the above question.
Another thing, will this plant be built with taxpayer dollars? Or private money?
Sanford, personally, anyone can come and go – and I’m fine with it, but this latest nic-switcher has repeatedly posted that he/she has some sort of dark secret to tell about me. I ask what – and he/she runs and hides. These games did not happen before the boycotter’s decided to come back.
Sure, we can ignore them – we usually do – I’m just pointing out how much more peaceful it was before they showed back up.
That’s all.
GS~I agree.Funny thing about venom-spewers, regardless of politics, they expose themselves very quickly. It is put out there for all to see.
JR
Fair enough. As I’ve noted before, though we have clashed before, you are not at all the problem here. Though we may disagree, and have some personality differences, I suspect we are more alike than different (aside from political outlook)!!
Cosmos – in answer to your question:
[quote]““Hardly a week goes by,” Dr. Peiser said, “without a new research paper that questions part or even some basics of climate change theory,” including some reports that offer alternatives to human activity for global warming.
Geologists have documented age upon age of climate swings, and some charge Mr. Gore with ignoring such rhythms.
“Nowhere does Mr. Gore tell his audience that all of the phenomena that he describes fall within the natural range of environmental change on our planet,” Robert M. Carter, a marine geologist at James Cook University in Australia, said in a September blog. “Nor does he present any evidence that climate during the 20th century departed discernibly from its historical pattern of constant change.””[end quote]
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/03/13/science/13gore.html?pagewanted=2&ei=5070&en=e17ab12c4a56cc54&ex=1174622400
Is anyone else in a bracket pool where the results aren’t given on a timely basis?
“”Why would someone spend millions to build something, anything, that was not needed?”"
Come on, jr, step up. The BDP demand an answer.
GSheridan, give it up. Cosmos only likes to discredit people.
I think he’s a paid shill for the GW crowd.
I drew New Mexico State, took a lot of stress out of my life!
Hank
Republican,
I don’t like to discredit people — BUT I definitely don’t like it when people try to deceive others on important issues. That causes confusion, delays, wrong actions and policies, etc.
Please explain why you seem to believe their deceptions are acceptable. Are you a paid shill for the fossil-fuel group?
GSheridan,
Broad’s NY Times column is a hit piece. Peiser had already admitted he was wrong about the “research papers”.http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid/2006/10/peiser_admits_he_was_97_wrong.php“It was obvious that there was only paper in his list that rejected the consensus and not only was that paper not peer-reviewed it was from the AAPG (American Association of Petroleum Geologists).”
More about Carter and others at links here, and see RealClimate link for science issues.http://scienceblogs.com/deltoid/2007/03/broadly_misrepresenting.php
Cosmos,
Lies. 99 percent of your post is discrediting someone or calling them an (insert ad hominem of choice.)
Why are you so set on getting people to pay more taxes? Taxes that will break a lot small businesses backs.
Who are you paid by to so strongly endorse such an economic disaster?
Peiser may have admitted that he was wrong about the papers he commented on in 2004, but the article I posted has a CURRENT comment from him.
I would think, that, in light of his honesty over the papers, you would take a closer look at his current statements.
And what of the new research papers being published every week? We both know that for the few that get published – many more are out there.
I think this is just the tip of the Ice Berg, Cosmos. I think the next few months will see a HUGE decline in the belief in the calamities Gore speaks of…and hence, Global Warming as a man-induced issue will drop away.
The debate is not going away – it’s building. If it hits a crescendo by the summer of 2007, I think the GOP will once again put a man in the White House.
Just my two cents.
GSheridan,
Don’t worry about these people. In any open forum there are some people who immediately understand what people like you are saying, others who have the potential to understand, and others who never will.
On your decision to home-school, I sympathize. I did this too. I made major mistakes, but overall it was a worthwhile experiment.
For example, finding that a bottom-of-his-class-in-math 4th grader (being taught by a math-incompetent teacher) could eventually score an 800 on the SAT Math Level II exam, home studying calculus at age 15-17, then tutoring minority college students in calculus beginning at age 18, was a real eye-opener.
Very recently, I discovered that KBOR has stopped crediting middle-school Algebra I as a core-curriculum-satisfying “Qualified Admissions” mathematics course.
I know of a middle-school teacher who is teaching Algebra I to a very small, select group of 7TH graders, who wants to teach them geometry next year, who is being obstructed by turf-minded high school teachers. Does he know how to teach geometry? I don’t know. But I say, let him experimentally TRY, let his students take the ACT at the end of 8th grade, and FIND OUT if he knows what he is doing.
I don’t have a secondary mathematics teaching credential. But I took a student who has ADD, and is lazy, gave him a lot of HARD WORK, and he scored a 27 on the ACT math test as a mid-eighth grader. That’s equivalent to East High’s IB ELEVENTH-GRADERS’ average, and higher than our top two private schools eleventh-graders’ average. That’s one point higher than qualifying for KU’s calculus course for business and life-science students, and one point less than qualifying for KU’s calculus course for physical science and engineering students. At age 13!
I have a friend whose nephew’s father majored in math at KU. The nephew, a public school student, had to take Math 101, algebra at KU, and flunked it, so is retaking it. His mother is a public educator. He’s really smart, and has a solid work-ethic. He should have been tracked to take AP Calc AB in high school, and today be taking Calc III at KU. Instead, he is taking remedial high school Algebra II, as a second-semester college freshman.
In the Industrial Age, schools were tasked by industrial capitalists to ensure that 80% of students would become semi-literate, obedient manual-skills laborers. This objective was achieved. Then our economy evolved to require mental vs. manual skills. But our school system was bogged down by an Industrial Age mindset–e.g. teachers were unionized accordant to industrial precepts. Teachers who unionize are a trapped species. They cannot move beyond an obsolete paradigm. The paradigm was sufficient when 80% of students were SUPPOSED to become semi-literate, obedient manual-skills workers.
More to follow.—–
A man dies goes to heaven meets st. peter at heaven gate. st. peter show him around, the man see jfk with the ugliest woman he has ever seen ask st peter. whats up with that, st. peter say well he was a Womanizer and this is his punishment, they keep walking the man says isnt that hank price and he is with a young anna nicole, st. peter says yes she was a manizer.
Republican,
If my post/link about Peiser is a “lie”, it should be easy for you to prove it.
Please provide the link (or name/title) of the PEER-REVIEWED science papers that disagree with the consensus on AGW.
Peiser and other skeptics are shouting the names/titles from the rooftops! /sarcasm OFF.
Oreskes found 928 articles that AGREE on AGW, 0% disagreed.
You think some carbon taxes (which ultimately save $’s by encouraging efficiency) will be an “economic disaster”?
Research what happens in the future if we DON’T stop climate change.
Hint: The reinsurance industry is VERY worried about the impacts of AGW.
heartlander?
You think GSheridan is correct on global warming?
She is not even fully informed on both sides of the issue!
Just purchased a used copy of “An Inconvenient Truth” DVD from Dillons. When I’m done with it, it will be donated to the Wichita public library.
They had to do an update, which is on the DVD. They had to update where the film called 2005 the warmest year on record. Know why?
Because 2006 is NOW the warmest year on record.
GSheridan where YOUR mistake is is in the minutia. Scientist generally agree with Gore and the science in the movie. It is the particulars they question.
So Cosmos, who pays you to be a GW shill?
I wouldn’t say it is the warmest year, maybe on average, but certainly not the warmest.
I distinctly remember my Grandfather not letting me go outside to play because his thermometer read 112 F. This was just outside of Haysville.
The local weatherman stated it was 110F and I remember my Grandfather scoffing at the TV inviting the weatherman to come out to his farm house.
It was an extremely hot summer that year. My grandfather lost some of his fruit trees. His tomato plants wilted and tomatoes had sun scars. Corn stalks turned dry and brown and the peanuts were so small that year, they weren’t saving.
The next year we had lots of outdoor barbeques with frog legs and chicken, catfish. It was quite pleasant.
My other grandfather believed in the Farmer’s Almanac, planting by the moon signs. Funny thing about it , he was usually right when to plant, prune and harvest. I remember him winning a bet with my other grandfather on when to plant potatoes. My other grandfather planted early, there was a heavy rain and frost which caused some blackheart fungus to occur. He lost about 70 percent of his crop. The grandfather that planted by moon sign had a perfect crop, no disease.
Serendipity? Probably…
City slickers that rely on city thermometers are only getting half the story. Travel outside of town a few miles and the weather can be totally different.
Part of the GW theory is that they average temperatures that were never before averaged and made a conclusion.
I heard one scientist on TV last nite that made this analogy. He said average temperatures like this without a prepared scientific planned before the temperatures where taken is like averaging phone numbers in a phone book.
It is meaningless because temperatures taken years ago where all separate, no standards where established and localities where the temperatures where taken was done usually in an Urban environment very susceptible to urban effects.
GSheridan,
Peiser made his claim in Feb 2005 (not 2004) and withdrew it in March 2006.
http://www.abc.net.au/mediawatch/transcripts/s1777013.htm“I do not think anyone is questioning that we are in a period of global warming. Neither do I doubt that the overwhelming majority of climatologists is agreed that the current warming period is mostly due to human impact.
— Email from Benny Peiser to Media Watch, 12th October, 2006″
GSheridan, please answer one simple, obvious question.
Considering all the attention focused by Gore and others on Oreskes’ study, WHY haven’t the skeptics named even ONE credible, peer-reviewed article that doubts AGW?
I suggest it’s because there are NOT any scientists that have credible proof that AGW is not happening.
AGW is NOT going to go away,http://www.noaanews.noaa.gov/stories2007/s2819.htm“the global December-February land-surface temperature was the warmest on record, while the ocean-surface temperature tied for second warmest in the 128-year period of record,”
I don’t understand the reasoning behind anybody who could doubt that (a) the earth is warming up, AND (b) humans contribute to the warming.
Youse takes the coal/gas/petrocarbon once buried deep beneath the earth’s surface and continuously oxidize it over time to produce CO2, what in the heck do you think is going to happen?!?
In the words of fleettwood, riddle me that, hmmmmmm?
Hell, even if Mars is warming up along with us, where do you fail to comprehend how humans contribute to *Earth’s* warming?
If your answer is “it ain’t happening,” or “nothing,” or “the earth will cool if we burn tons of previously buried petrochemicals per second of every minute of each day,” then ’scuse me but I just don’t believe you have yer thinkin’ cap on tight.
If you own one.
Pedant,
I believe in Climate Change, but that which is not caused by humans. Do we contribute to carbon emissions? You betcha we do.
Are the carbon emissions the only reason that the earth is experiencing Climate Change?
Not a chance.
What the GW people want to do is charge a tax on everyone, force them to buy carbon credits and accept their partially proven science without question. They want everyone to sign on under the threat of being discredited, being called a denier or worse.
As I told Cosmos before, I could be the greenest person on the planet and if I said I was against the GW theory I would be condemned , a denier and worse names.
His religion of GW is a bully and absolutely refuses anything, and I mean literally anything to refute what his Scientology states.
Everybody knows it’s the volcanos. We need really big corks. Unlike Soilant Green, it’s not people.
“[much muddle writing].”Posted by: Republican | March 21, 2007 at 07:18 PM
Try again.
The earth is warming, clearly, and it’s as plain as the nose on your face that humans contribute.
I fail to see anything but a personal attack on cosmos in whatever the heck you were trying to say there.
fleettwood, volcanoes would erupt even if humans left buried petrocarbons, right?
LOL
Not saying humans are the SOLE reason behind warming, just saying that humans clearly contribute.
Just interested in the margins, d00d.
So Republican, who pays you to be a anti-GW shill?
“Part of the GW theory is that they average temperatures that were never before averaged and made a conclusion.”
You are WRONG,
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/“Anomalies and Absolute TemperaturesOur analysis concerns only temperature anomalies, not absolute temperatures. The temperature anomaly tells us how much warmer or colder than normal it is at a particular place and point in time, the ‘normal temperature’ being the mean over many (30) years (same place, same time of year). It seems obvious that to find the anomaly, you first have to know the current and normal absolute temperatures. This is correct for the temperature at one fixed spot (the location of one thermometer), but not true at all for regional mean temperatures.
Whereas the individual reading represents just this spot but can be very different from nearby readings, the anomaly computed from those readings is much less dependent on location, elevation, wind patterns etc; it turns out to be representative for a region that covers several square miles. Hence we can combine anomalies from various stations to find regional mean anomalies. Regional absolute temperatures however cannot be obtained from observations alone. For a more detailed discussion, see The Elusive Absolute Surface Air Temperature.
Urban heat island effect? Is that what causes the largest anomalies in Alaska, Siberia, Antarctica, etc in these graphics?

So Republican, who pays you to be a anti-GW shill?Posted by: cosmos | March 21, 2007 at 07:33 PM
You see everyone. I just did point out that I believe in Climate Change.
However, I pointed out there are other things that cause climate change and Cosmos knows this.
He wants to force his GW theories down everyone’s throat. He wants everyone to pay huge carbon taxes on top of all of the other taxes we pay.
He refuses to believe there are other ways and methods to deal with Climate Change.
It is Cosmos way or the highway.
Everyone else cannot have a choice according to Cosmos.
Sieg Heil Cosmos!
Good grief, that lead to a remarkably swift invocation of Godwin’s Law.
Still, it appears that Republican agrees that (a) the earth is warming, and (b) humans contribute.
His biggest beef seems to be in how to lessen the human contribution.
Gotta Godwin yer ass ‘cuz laws are laws, but I must say I do it reluctantly because I believe it’s akin to Godwinnin’ a fellow traveller. ;)
OK kiddin’: not fellow traveller, but a person who’s willing to admit that humans contribute to the warming of Earth!
The film “An Inconvenient Truth” does not mention “carbon taxes” Not even once.
Taxes or legislation or mandates are what you do if you have to.
Well we are just about to that point. Of having to I mean.
We will surely get there if some keep dragging their feet.
Think about it. First most of the right said “Warming? what warming?” A few still say that. MOST have moved on through “Well , we don’t understand it.” to “Well maybe we should do a study” passing “Well ok it’s warming but we don’t know why” and arriving at “Yeah it’s warming but human activity isn’t the cause or the sole cause.”
There is NOTHING to lose by addressing this proactively. The longer some drag their feet the harder it will be to do anything.
Republican,
“It is Cosmos way or the highway.”
Republican’s way is the LIE-way.
Republican PREFERS to believe and support people who LIE and say falsehoods about AGW.
And I do NOT consider carbon taxes the ONLY, or best way to cut emissions. Feebates, “carrots”, loan guarantees. etc would work better/faster.
I’ve posted that many times before.http://www.oilendgame.com/ReadTheBook.html
But I guess Republican also likes to lie about me.
GMC70,
“Gore’s movie (it comes out of Hollywood – Fantasyland, USA; need I say more?)”
This graph is in the documentary, and on page 36 of the book.Mauna Loa CO2,http://cdiac.ornl.gov/trends/co2/graphics/mlo145e_thrudc04.pdf
On page 64 and 72 are temperature graphs similar to these,http://www.ipcc.ch/present/graphics/2001syr/large/05.16.jpg
On page 150 is a graph of the Global Ocean Conveyer Belt, similar to thishttp://www.ipcc.ch/present/graphics/2001syr/large/04.18.jpg
GMC70, do you consider the above “Fantasyland” material?
Correct Pedant.
I’m sure there is some influence by man carbon introduction to GW, but not a whole heckuva lot in the grand scheme of things.
The thing about carbon tax goes back to the founding of our nation. That is taxation without representation. It would be a tax on everything that produces, emits, made up of or anyway is conjoined with petroleum based products and coal.
Let’s say, carbon tax gets passed. Who is going to buy all the new furnaces needed to keep people warm in the northern part of our country to control emissions. Who will pay the extra fees piled on top of the use of coal for those people who rely on it to keep warm?
For those who can’t afford to buy a new car ever or maybe every 7-10 years, who will help pay their gas bill when they don’t meet the carbon emission standard?
Who will pay the fine they get assessed because they couldn’t afford the price to “modernize” their car.
Who will pay the small business the enormous costs to refit all of their HVAC requirements? Will this be the end of Barb-Q pits? How about farmers that burn off grasses? Will Fire Departments be in violation of Carbon emissions when they use controlled burns?
When that $7.50/gallon gasoline you try to put in your car doesn’t work on your old clunker, what are you going to do?
Will race tracks for cars be outlawed because they cannot control concentrated carbon emissions.
Will a farmer who uses natural decay processes in letting fields regenerate be fined because he has surpassed his allotment of carbon emissions?
Free range cattle, horses, sheep and other livestock be outlawed because of their methane emissions?
Where does it stop?
“Why would someone spend millions to build something, anything, that was not needed?”
Fleet other then my naming the Arena “Albino Pachyderm VI” I have try to stay away from the debate on it as I do not live in Sedgwick County. But yes I have asked that question about the Arena.
Would it interest you to know insurance companies are causing people right here in Wichita to loose their jobs or have to pay money to keep their jobs ?

But, ………….. I guess you didn’t stay away from that debate.
Looks like you snuck an opinion in that non – ‘opinion’.
Is that from the ‘Dictionary of Passive-Aggresive’?
You poor deluded people, read, listen, try to understand…
Thinking will not kill you… even though you act as though it might…..
