Kansas photojournalist Jim Richardson has a glorious 22-page spread in the April issue of National Geographic magazine. Richardson’s photos illustrate an article detailing the exquisite beauty of the Kansas Flint Hills.
Having grown up on a farm near Belleville, Richardson knows that Kansans tend to suffer from an inferiority complex. He was determined that the photos of the Flint Hills would rival those of any other American landscape — whether it be the Grand Canyon or the Rocky Mountains. He succeeded.

Anyone who has stood looking out over the Flint hills, stood on the river bank of the Arkansas the other side of Hutchinson, set on a back county road a couple of miles outside of Wichita knows the beauty of Kansas.
Thanks for the info. This is one issue I’ll be picking up.
As a long-time fan of the beautiful Flint Hills particularly in Chase County, I’m looking forward to reading this National Geographic article.
Love it…people finding POSITIVES about our state! What great concept!
The thing that strikes me about the Flint Hills is simply how peaceful it is. What a place to watch a beautiful sunset!
And the bikers who go to Cassoday on the first Sunday of each month. ;)
Richardson has a studio in Lindsborg. It is definately worth stopping in for.
Yeah, the Flint Hills are one of a few areas in Kansas that make landscape photography worthwhile, and Jim Richardson has done a good job there.
