Nobody should have expected former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay to go quietly. "The Hammer" has written a new memoir, "No Retreat, No Surrender: One American’s Fight," in which he calls Newt Gingrich an "ineffective" House speaker and writes: "Nearly every other day he had a new agenda, a new direction he wanted us to take. It was impossible to follow him." DeLay also confirms that "Gingrich was having an affair with a staffer during the entire impeachment crisis," characterizes former House Majority Leader Dick Armey as a liar "blinded by ambition," and says President Bush "may be compassionate, but he is certainly no conservative in the classic sense."
As columnist Robert Novak says of DeLay’s account of when Republicans ruled the House: "His revelation that GOP leaders did not constitute a band of brothers helps explain why 12 years of control produced much less than was anticipated."

Maybe Delay is looking for a book deal. Perhaps if Delay wouldn’t haven’t been such a butt to everyone , he might have left under better circumstances. His role as the dominator of intimidation was well known in both parties. He was not well liked nor will he be missed.
Delay is saying in some ways what we real conservatives have believed for a long time.
Newt lost his appeal to his mass audience when he did that for which he was chastizing Clinton. I’m not judging his behavior just saying he is hypocritical in his behavior. Take the health care plan he co-authored with Hillary Clinton. It in no way reflected his conservative base. I think his presidential bid is dead in the water for these reasons no matter how many heart felt apologies he poffers.
As to Delays description of Bush, well we supporters have said all along he was spending money like a drunken sailor. No harm intended to drunken sailors.
Delay has lots of spare time on his hands. Why wouldn’t we have expected a book deal.
At least we now know why Newt “confessed” recently…it was to head off the expose from DeLay.
Somebody help me, please..I know DeLay was indicted, was he convicted? I seemed to have missed the outcome?
thanks…
DeLay was indicted; no trial yet, to the best of my memory, and I don’t know any trial date.
The right eating their own?
No news there.
Sqaud? Circle formation!
Ready! Aim!…..
No trial date set yet. I suspect we might see something of the manner in which the case against Kay Bailey Hutchinson was handled. In any case his political career is over. He will probably return to Washington as a high priced lobbyist in the future. He wasn’t one of my heros.
Let’s hope Powell grows some gonads and writes a book.
J R I am disappointed in you. How are we to get along with your side. I just got ripped royally on another topic by Condor and Hard Truth for what they perceived as protecting at all cost the republicans and now I get ripped by you for being truthful about some of our not so bright lights. How do you win on this blog?
ksgrm – I suspect JR was referring to DeLay and his targets; not you.
Actually, your comments were quite accurate.
Yeh, there’s probably a book deal in the offing.
I wonder if it will dish on Fitzgerald?
Copy that Hard Truth.
My comment was general and directed to the topic.
ksgrm? Do not take this wrong and I hope it does not serve to color you. I have new hope for you.
And if I was coming after you? There would be no mistaking it!
raptor,
Who would buy his book other than learn what a political weasel that guy is.
clipped…
A Texas grand jury indicted former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay (R-Tex.) on a charge of criminally conspiring with two political associates to inject illegal corporate contributions into 2002 state elections that helped the Republican Party reorder the congressional map in Texas and cement its control of the House in Washington.
The guy is slime! Access man for Jack Abramoff who’s partner in a fraudulent Cruise line purchase, conspiracy in a murder.
Access to Gail Norton, formerly Secretary of the Interior Department, who wrote fraudulent wording slamming Indian tribe casino’s in Texas. Abramoff and his lawyer buddy, collected millions in fees from Indian Tribe casino’s trying to get them reopened. Ambramoff had a “contact ” in the Interior Department.
Delay was part of groups going on trips with Abramoff who have plead guilty to political crime.
Former Senator Bob Ney went to prison already for corruption tied to Abramoff.
Former DeLay press secretary Michael Scanlon and former Ney chief of staff Neil Volz for convicted receiving gifts in exchange for political favors.
Then he tried to create re-election fraud, having his wife live in a Sugarland Texas area house, while he lived in Virginia.
He was caught, that fraud caused his Republican seat now run by a Democrat.
Funniest thing. Former Delay staff in Washington, hated a new Texas political lady, picked to finish his term. Very short term, she thought it was enough time to be part of pushing legislation. Many of Delay’s staff quit on her.
Delay’s staff knew political oil takes months to work.
“Who would buy his book other than learn what a political weasel that guy is.”
Answer: People who want to read the dirt about his associates in crime.
I have no clue who would want to buy his book. Then again, many people bought Liddy’s book, yes? And he WAS convicted…
I have already said what I think of Delay however how anyone in clear conscience should mention Abramhoff without mentioning Harry Reid. He took money from him also. He also lobbied for and got a bridge to nowhere in southern Nevada.
I have an aunt who lives in the desert between Topoc, Arizona and Bullhead, Arizona. Reid bought a large parcel of land in that area and guess what the US built a bridge to go from southern Nevada to northern Arizona which just happened to go to his property.
I am not implying he is crooked, not much. Republicans have erred and should be punished however until both parties open their eyes to the problems in both parties we are doomed to ‘he did it first’ mentality.
Reid “sent a letter to Norton on March 5, 2002,” reported the AP. “The next day, the Coushattas issued a $5,000 check to Reid’s tax-exempt political group, the Searchlight Leadership Fund. A second tribe represented by Abramoff sent an additional $5,000 to Reid’s group. Reid ultimately received more than $66,000 in Abramoff-related donations between 2001 and 2004.”

Sorry I meant to post news article outlining the connection.
Yep..there are crooks in government. Some are Republicans, and some are Democrats…history has shown that no one party has a lock on malfeance or sainthood.
Sadly, our system is badly broken. When elected officials spend more time fund raising (to be re-elected to continue fund raising to…ad nauseum) than they do in their actual jobs, something is definitely broken.
It is refreshing to see people indicted and hopefully put away. But..we are dreaming if we think that will change any behaviors in DC.
Maybe DeLay’s book will be made ito a movie. Some possible titles:
“Battle Hymn of the Republicans”"To Have and Have and Have”"Can Tom DeLay Forget Washington D.C. and Find True Happiness?”"The Washington D.C. Social Club”"Mr. DeLay Leaves Washington”"The Seduction of Tom DeLay”
If I Had Done It: O.J. SimpsonThe Apprentice, The Jailbird: Scooter LibbyDelay Deals Dirt in DC: Tom Delay
3 books I have no interest in reading!
