What an interesting duo to appear together! I will watch for the possibility of sharp comments being exchanged.
I was given the chance to ask the Congressman about the “tax cut” since enacting I have had to pay every year. Before I was getting several hundred back. His explanation was that by the government telling employers to only hold out a part of the total tax due on every dollar it left more in the taxpayer’s pocket.Which they would then spend and help the economy and he added worked as planned. But then I pointed out that it is not a tax cut, the taxpayer still owed the same tax they just had to save that money to be paid at the end of the year. The point actually seem lost on him as he said “but it did help the economy!”.
The answer I was given by my tax agent was to change my withholding to have more held out to cover the taxes that were not being held out in the first place. I hope you can see as a fiscal conservative how that has driven me nuts! It makes so much sense to spend the same money twice instead of spending it once.
Sounds like you paid for your own ‘tax cut’.
Someone should ask Todd Tiahrt about the shady deal involving the old Church of the Magdalen property.
Last year, the “excess” property at Kellogg and Woodlawn that used to belong to Church of the Magdalen was sold to a church with direct ties to Tiahrt’s campaign. There were two buildings left after Kellogg was widened – a 55,000 square foot school, and the rectory.
The city paid $12 million for the original land and buildings, and what’s left is appraised for $2.5 million. The city sold this pretty cheap – only $400,000!!! It was snuck through on a consent agenda when the Mayor and other councilmembers were out of town. There was no debate, no discussion, no open bidding.
And now the good part. Sources inside City Hall have said that District 2 Councilwoman Sue Schlapp, mother of Todd Tiahrt’s campaign manager Matt Schlapp, engineered the sale to a church controlled by George Bruce, who just happens to be Todd Tiahrt’s campaign treasurer.
This is Wichita’s “good old boy” network run amok, and Tiahrt’s campaign is at the center of it. Not only Tiahrt, either – the church that bought the property is being used by the same clinic protestors that park those “aborted fetus” trucks out in front of public schools.
Makes you go hmmmm…..
