The final frontier: wearing diapers

Amid the otherwise sad, sordid tale of Lisa Nowak, the shuttle astronaut gone astray, we did learn something interesting: Astronauts wear diapers during liftoff and re-entry.
How many people knew that? And as the Nowak story shows, there are civilian applications right here on Earth.
It’s not too late for NASA to put a positive spin on this.

They have always worn them…but in this case I think she just liked to wear “poopy pants” …

“When beggars die there are no comets seen, heaven itself blazes forth the death of princes”. (shakespear)

I wonder if she’s just commoner in the society.

I consider this story like the one about that stupid runaway bride from Georgia. Who cares? This woman should have been made to stay in jail. She obviously intended to do more harm than just pepper spray.

And what about the object of her affection? Where is he? What does he have to say about all this stuff? Is he smugly sitting by and smiling because two women are fighting over him?

All parties are to be pitied but I feel sorry for Nowak’s children and husband – they are the victims here, not her.

Well it will be interesting to see how the defense att and others with influence, will paint a different picture of nowalk then what we see. It was obvious that she had more intentions of doing bodily, then just pepper spray. She had intentions of killing this other woman and destroying her body and evidence. It’s going to be quite interesting to watch the character build up and tear down and what other outside forces of influences have to assist in the characterization of this woman. It just goes too show you, that we all have issues and inner secrets will wrestle with daily. And how easily we can allow those forces to overtake our thinking, actions and thoughts. The most sad thing is those involved(children & spouses) will never be the same, a sense of trust has been destroyed amongst love ones.

Is this going to be a test case for the “Bad Diaper” defense??

This idiot woman has brought shame on herself, her kids, the space program, and the progress of women in general. And for what? A starry eyed teen age crush? Unbelievable.

Do her and everyone a favor. Give her a pistol and leave her alone.

I would bet she will find her own pistol. She may not be long for this world.

It’s interesting to me that yesterday Brownlee was joking about this story in regard to the the Playboy thread. Today, Scholfield calls it “sad and sordid”.

And yes, I did know that the astronauts wore “disposable sanitary garments” during lift off and decent to landing. During those two phases, the astronauts are not weightless, and, though it may seem surprising, there are actually tasks that need to be performed on schedule. You can’t say, “Hold everything, guys, I need to pee!”

This is kind of gross, but, were the diapers for #1 or #2?

    slow news day?

or just a bright and shiney object to distract us from the libby trial that the righties said would never happen.

I see they are whistling past the graveyard again saying the charges will never stick.

I wonder if they will say “we was robbed” when he does the frog march through the prison gates?

Maybe it depends on whether or not the preznit and dead eye dick are on the other end of the chain gang….

Have you all lost sight of the fact that this is a deeply troubled young woman? What if she was your co-worker, your friend, your wife, or, God forbid, your daughter? What if she was your mother? Would you be so flippant then? Three careers gone, and for what? Lifelong trauma for her children. This is way more than a “teenage crush”. Where in hell is the famous “Kansas Bible Thumpin’ Compassion” that is constantly espoused here?

Lisa Lowak did more planning for her road trip than the Bush administration did for the illegal Iraq occupation. Perhaps we should make her the new secretary of defense.

NASA is in the beginning stages of planning a manned venture to Mars. It will take 2 1/2 years to reach the Red planet with a mixed-gender crew aboard. Think about it.

What we have here is a mental breakdown. This woman needs help, not scrutiny. I hope she finds some comfort somewhere. She has lost her children, her life. She does need to serve time.

NASA employs people. Sometimes people act in ways that many other people can’t understand. Does this reflect badly on NASA? It shouldn’t…being an astronaut does not convey “perfection” on anyone.

    No story here…none at all.

This is a sad case, and I believe they said the woman had 3 or 4 kids and had been married 19 years.

Maybe she can get a change of venue on the probable upcoming domestic case.

I am sure the Kansas SRS would gladly file a report saying her husband caused her “latent syndrome diaper” (LSD)behavior and that he be the NCP and pay for all future space launches!
