Vice President Dick Cheney was probably eager to get back to his undisclosed location in the United States after a suicide bomber killed more than 20 people today during Cheney’s visit to the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. At least one U.S. soldier and one U.S. contractor died. The Taliban claimed Cheney had been the target. “I think they clearly try to find ways to question the authority of the central government,” Cheney said, suggesting that “it shouldn’t affect our behavior at all.”
Wonder what it would take to shake Cheney. He’s also so unerringly on message, of course, that he saw even last week’s announcement of a British troop pullout from Iraq as a good thing — “an affirmation that there are parts of Iraq where things are going pretty well,” he told ABC News.

I’m not sure of succession, but if Cheney had been killed, wouldn’t Pelosi become VP?
That would make the Shrub’s day!Maybe even a sitcom?”As the stomach turns”.
gster, it wouldn’t; there would be the opportunity for a Vice President to be appointed. Remember Spiro Agnew?
VT- Thanks- I’d forgotten how it works, but I still like my way, if only for the entertainment value.
VT – as I recall the Senate chose the replacement? I’m not sure; it ahs been a while. It would be interesting to see who would get it; especially since there are no ‘elder statesmen’ around.
gster, Ben, see the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution; simply stated, the President chooses a nominee to be approved by a majority of both Houses of Congress.
VT- I forgot that Ford was picked ,rather than becoming VP because he was the House Speaker, if I recall correctly.
Thanks VT. Interesting thing about Ford- he never made it to House Speaker. He was in the minority Party but was still overwhelmingly approved.
Prayers of condolences for those families who lost a life of their loved ones. There was no just cause here! Just mayhem and killing!
As for Cheney, there’s a real question as to whether he was the target of the bombing or whether, after the fact, the Taliban cannily used Cheney’s presence to raise the profile of the attack.
Things in Afghanistan are going SO well, after all, that this and other bombings just shows that the Taliban are in their last throes. Or something like that.
I’ll not lie about it.
It would not have hurt my feelings a bit if we were suddenly short a Vice President.
Oh I’d cry.
For joy.
He is an evil, despicable man.
I agree he is an evil, despicable man and I want him out of any office that represents our country in any way, but not dead. Death seems too easy for someone who has done our country so much harm. I want him in prison and hope he lives a very long life behind bars.
Why does Cheney always look like he is about to bite someone?
Noteworthy point to new bloggers:
If Junior hates it – Normal people probably like it.
Parenthetically, “it” = most anything: jobs, companies, successful people.
WSC- I always thought that look was due to a Hemorrhoid flareup!
I like your thinking even better linda.
The mere act of believing that some wrongful course of action constitutes an advantage is pernicious.
~Marcus Tullius Cicero
Whoa now Dickie, I thought that little dust-up in Afghanistaan was “Mission Accomplished”, all over, all done! What Taliban? Just before the 2004 election you and Bush, both, said that the Taliban were whipped—gone—wiped out—dead meat. What’s the deal? Ah, maybe the bombers weren’t Taliban at all, just some disgruntled lawyers getting back at you for shooting one of their own. Think?
Hey! Homer (Golf Nut)Arafat is back! Can Fleetwood be far behind?
Noteworthy point to new bloggers:
ksgolfnutz rarely has anything to contribute regarding the topic, but truly enjoys pointing out what he considers other bloggers’ failings.
Thank you for your attention.~~The Management
A more correct point:
Ksgolfnut truly enjoys life.
The end. =)
KSGoof–
No Sonny Bono ski trip this time? What a shame.
Anyway, “normal people” hate Bush.
Polls prove that.
So that makes you abnormal.
Heh, tell us something we DIDN’T know.
Dick Cheney gets bombed. I think that was the problem with his shooting his fellow geezer in the face.
BTW, anybody care to guess how many pheasants they shot on that trip?
Over 400.
So much for “good sportsmanship.”
Thank God he’s safe though. Otherwise he could have gotten replaced by a VP who might have run and won in ‘08, but the RePukes are so eviscerated after 6 years of W that the Dems could run a cocker spaniel and win.
W = Worst. President. Ever.
“I think they clearly try to find ways to question the authority of the central government,” Cheney said,
Gee couldn’t they have just raised their hand? Ahhhh No Dick they were trying to kill you! Damn read a memo once in a while…..
Cheney said, suggesting that “it shouldn’t affect our behavior at all.”
In Cheney secret speak, “ It was someone else that was killed…. No big-gy!”
I thought Dick would’ve grabbed a rifle and ran outside! Instead of cowering in a bunker!
I thought ksgolfnutz was a woman.
“Over 400 pheasants”? And you know this how?
Also, how many hunters? How many days? How many pheasants does a lawyer count for on the scorecard? (Maybe it was only 10 pheasants + 390 points for the lawyer?)
KS Golf Nut has been described as a cross between Homer Simpson and Yasser Arafat, hence his nickname of Homer Arafat.
Thank you for inquiring about the specifics of Cheney’s slaughter of stocked pheasants (shooting birds in a barrel), RM.
Here ya go.
“Scott Wakefield, a dog handler at the club, said about 500 farm-raised pheasants were released from nets for the morning hunt. The 10-man hunting party that included Cheney shot 417 pheasants. The vice president was set to hunt ducks in the afternoon.
“Cheney shot more than 70 ringneck pheasants and an unknown number of mallard ducks. The birds were plucked and vacuum-packed in time for Cheney’s afternoon flight to Washington, D.C.”
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/03343/249105.stm
I’ve been hunting all my life, and the total number of pheasants I’ve bagged in a single day is never more than two or three.
I also clean them myself.
417 birds in one morning–with ducks in the afternoon, no less–is not hunting. It’s a massacre live clay pidgeons.
I wonder if he “fishes” with dynamite too . . .
A lot is said about a man when he gets his jollies shooting caged bird hunts.
Cheney’s first name is the best description of him.
Say a prayer for any Democrats that might have been hurt or killed. As for the Republicans… not my problem.
I have never hunted and probably never will, but I do respect those that do, provided that it is a sport in the true nature of the term. Those that would “hunt” for prepared prey are not hunters. They are not sportsmen. They are just gun happy clowns that do a great disservice to those that are really sportsmen.
It says something about Cheney’s lack of character that he would choose to engage in “sport” when the targets are not much more than clay pigeons.
You can also buy pheasants at farm to eat in large quantities at several farms! Wringing necks and stunning them is not sport either! It’s food!
OMG — I’ll really feel badly about it as soon as I quit laughing! That’s incredible … and you are right! That’s not hunting + I keep flashing on the punch line from the “You gonna’ fish or you gonna’ talk” joke. I have never heard of such a thing in my life.
From JR,
“It would not have hurt my feelings a bit if we were suddenly short a Vice President.
Oh I’d cry.
For joy.
And from Kev:
“Say a prayer for any Democrats that might have been hurt or killed. As for the Republicans… not my problem.”
I guess for you it is “A Democrat first and an American Second.”
Yes that is the calling of the Liberals in the United States.
He is an evil, despicable man.”
roughly 2 and a half hrs is all it took for someone to wish Cheney was dead!!
Pretty sad state of affairs when someone can wish death on another person beacuse you don’t agree with their views. Lively debate and the exchange of different viewpoints is one thing, that viewpoint is another.
Something to think about
Oh, Jeez, Durden and Hawkeye, you have very short memories.
How often have the right wingers called Democrats and progressives traitors, cowards, etc?
During the run up to the War on Iraq and the aftermath shortly thereafter, we were called every name in the book and encouraged to leave the country or face execution for treason.
Now, someone makes a tongue in cheek remark about Cheney and the Repukes and you folks have your panties all twisted.
You might remember that one of the most vocal war proponents, Randall Cunningham suggested that all anti-war citizens and Democrats should be lined up against a wall and shot.
Where was your outrage then?
Coulter can call for a terrorist attack against the Times, but it’s just plain sinful for anyone to talk that way about the Republicans!
None of those people are from this blog! You name other people not here! Reported that Huffington Blog site had to remove over two dozen Democritic comments about Cheney because of their poor taste wishing him dead!
Were you making a point Roscoe and just spewing verbage for the sake of spewing verbage?
WS CLARK has nothing but spew! He constantly spews nothing but hatred! Not one kind word for anyone at anytime! A spewer of bile and hatred!
Hey, Roscoe, several bloogers here have suggested directly that I should be hung for treason since I am and always have been anti-war.
Seems to me that YOU were not chastizing them for those comments, so am I to assume that suggesting that someone should die is acceptable as long as they are right wingers?
Or are you just a hypocrite?
“Not one kind word for anyone at anytime!”
I have a lot of kind words, Roscoe, just none for Bush, Cheney and the Republicans and their supporters.
I have not read such comments about WS CLARK! Show me where this is written! Advocating homicide is wrong! Show me the writing!
oh jeez,
Its wrong on both accounts. But its ok when its my side but not yours mentality is childish.
Be honest it wasn’t a tongue in cheek remark its what JR said he would have wanted.
He is a person and an american and nobody should wish that on anyone.
I’m not particularly fond of this administration either nor was I of Clinton, but I don’t wish anyone dead. It says alot about the people that feel that way and those that defend it on both sides.
its indefensible period and its why i don’t enjoy posting and reading this at times. Its gotten to the point that I just scroll over folks on both sides and only read those that don’t post tripe like that. If you read this with an open mind you’ll know who is readable and who isn’t worth teh effort from all sides
Jeez, Hawkeye, do you really think that folks on opposite sides of such an emotional subject as war might vehemently disagree?
“But its ok when its my side but not yours mentality is childish.”
Your side has been advocating violence against my side for five years now, and YOU want us to back off?
Don’t hold your breath.
“Show me where this is written!”
Because you have not read it does not mean that it did not happen – the perps were Fleetwood and Golf Nut. JM also suggeested a violent response to me.
I am not going to do the research for you – if you want to find the quotes, do your own Googling.
Has anybody else noticed that Roscoe is affecting his Nigerian accent tonight…after playing “Little Black Sambo” all weekend? This guy is Rich Little on a keyboard.
I don’t have a side just a country I want to see continue flourish. Some good ideas are liberal and smoen are conservative
I’m sorry they advocated violence against you, but two wrongs don’t make a right.
I will speak out against it next time I read it if you will do the same no matter who writes it
By the way its ok to disagree vehemently, but its not ok to wish death on people. That not a world I want to live in and neither should any of us.
roscoe I do believe that has been said by right wing posters here against many people just as it was done today
I like Cheney. Stay alive and strong bro.
I like him too, Joe. History will treat him kindly.
Just out of curiousity, Joe, what is it about President Cheney that you like?
Side Bar
Didn’t the new head of the state gop recently say that it was his job to make the Governors life miserable (or words to that effect).
Nobody on this blog said they wished death on Cheney or anyone else. JR said his feelings wouldn’t be hurt if something had happened to the VP. Since when is that a death threat?
Y’all want to read something in to things that just plain isn’t there. Now grow up and stop playing games. You sound like a bunch of 8 year-olds.
I advocated no violence.
I made no wishes.
I said how I would feel if something happened to a very bad man. We see here that that sentiment aint uniqe.
For the record? My Mom said the same thing.
Oh don’t worry. Cheney feeds on hate. It keeps him warm. Makes him feel like he’s alive.
Let’s let history take care of Cheney and Bush and you loyal supporters can buy the paperback when it comes out. Okay?
President Cheney for one thing is a brilliant person, well qualified, tough on his conviction, has more experience in government than any Vice President in history, has greatly expanded the role of the Vice President’s office, a great compassionate patriot, he’s honest and tells it as it is, he’s got balls (something that many politicans lack), he doesn’t tow party line and group think, he’s his own man, and the list continues. I like those qualities. They are rare and much needed in great leadership.
He isn’t a bad guy. He’s one of the best. If only he was President. Bush is the one that sucks.
I’ll shed no tears when Cheney goes to his great reward. He’s done more damage to the Constitution and the office of the Vice-Presidency than anyone in American history.
Richard Bruce Cheney: a name that will forever live in infamy.
Joe Williams and I agree on some facts; just not on what they mean.
Cheney has greatly expanded the role of the Vice-Presidency–in ways not intended by the framers of the Constitution. He and his minion, David Addington, have reinterpreted the office as part of the Executive, part of the Legislative, and answerable to neither.
Joe Williams–Cheney IS President.
Cheney has caused more death than Dennis Rader! Should Dennis Rader be put to death?
Roscoe – you spew hatred at everybody in the name of your religion!
Joe! Cheney doesn’t toe the party line – he SPOUTS the party line! He is the reason we are bogged down in Iraq. Only a traitor could like that!
You guys have your opinion and I have mine. I don’t expect you to ever have any good feelings about any Republican, so that includes Cheney.
I look at their record, history and what they do now.
You can say he’s evil and that he expanded the role of the office for what it isn’t intended by the framers or that he ripped up or has done damage to our Constitution, but I bet you cannot back those assertions with facts or evidence.
Whatever you think that he overstepped the bounds, I can assure you that it was worse in the past Presidencies.
Cheney’s likeability is at what like 17%?
That’s the kook $ base and their mindless lapdogs.
“Whatever you think that he overstepped the bounds, I can assure you that it was worse in the past Presidencies.”
Give us some examples, Joe, real examples, not Rush Limbaugh’s opinion.
I don’t know what Limbaugh’s opinions are.
I asked first. The balls in your court.
But just for starters for something you should know if you have a bit of history knowledge. Japanese-American Internment during WWII by FDR.
Joe says Cheney is a
“great compassionate patriot……he’s got balls”
Uh huh. He’s also got a fistful of draft deferments because he “had better things to do” while his country was at war in Viet nam!
Well, Joe, for the sake of argument, we will assume that Cheney is Bush or Bush only decides what Cheney tells him to decide.
Now even the most ardent Cheney supporter has to admit that the War on Iraq was been a disaster. The insurgents are far from being in their last throes and there were no WMD. The British pulling out of Southern Iraq is not a sign that things are going great, considering that Military Intelligence says that the area is still one of the top five most dangerous territories for insurgent activities.
So, how can you claim that Cheney is a great VP when he has been largely responsible for this disaster – this waste of 3,187 Americans – this irresponsible expenditure of $677 billion.
And yes, Joe, I am fully aware of the Japanese – American internment in 1942.
To be honest Joe, you probably should not try to debate history with me – I am a bit of an expert on the Second World War.
Joe: Your message provoked memories of Vice-Presidents. Love him or hate him, when you compare him to Gore, Quayle and Mondale, Agnew and Hubert Humphrey, you have to admire strength. Rockefeller wasn’t veep long enough to make any difference. Ford, Johnson and Nixon, of course, went on to the Presidency. And that’s just the last 55 years. He comes across like a bear, and I think that turns a lot of people off — but, he’s a true believer in this country. That doesn’t mean he’s always right, but whom among us is?
Joe – I knew people who were IN those internment camps. I have an autographed book (Bamboo People) written by one. So, do I pass your history test?
Now a history question for you: What countries intervened on the losing side in the Russian Civil War?
I’m not saying Cheney is golden, doesn’t make mistakes or has issues or takes stances on positions that I never agree with.
Just saying he isn’t all that bad. Effective and strong, Yes! Great leader? Yes! Doesn’t he have somes con’s? Yep! Everybody does.
But to each their own. He’s good for this country in my opinion. Would make a damn fine President, but he also knows that it’s not really his gig nor does he have the chance.
America likes softy, emotional, popular appealing Presidents now-a-days. Either it be the Moral Majority with Reagan, or the Wish-to-believe King Clinton, in the moderen Presidency, Presidents aren’t the calibur of leadership like they once were.
The one thing I could tell you is that without Cheney, it would be a lot worse. He’s the only rock keeping the mud slide of Bush’s incompenence from sweeping the nation.
“He’s the only rock keeping the mud slide of Bush’s incompenence from sweeping the nation.”
Christ, Joe, we are in even more trouble than I thought. It the only thing that is between us and total disaster is Dick Cheney then we had better pray for a miracle.
Either that or put our collective heads between our legs and kiss our asses good-bye.
Just think about it WSClark. Regardless if what you think about Darth Cheney, if it weren’t for Cheney and Co., Bush would be totally clueless. At least Bush knows who to pick to work the system, Bush picks Harriet Meyers, Horse Judge Brown and other ridiculous picks from his buddies from Tejhas!
Sorry! Getting late. Need to go to bed.
I meant: At least Cheney knows who to pick to work the system…Bush doesn’t.
Well, Joe, I don’t quite know whether I should send Cheney a thank you note or shoot myself.
(That’s a joke for those of you that don’t know me.)
Something we have to live with for the next 2 years.
But at least Bush isn’t the worse we have in government. Harry Reid is the worse. Heaven forbids he ever win re-election. If you are dumbfounded why Republicans selected Bush, I’m equally dumbfounded on Harry Reid. What a disaster fraudulent punk.
I wonder if he thinks Joseph Smith is the re-incarnation of Jesus. Probably does.
*shakes head* The people we elect in office. Sad!
This was an Al Qaida assassination attempt? C’mon, surely they could’ve done better than that! Cheney was in more danger from the microwave in the compound’s kitchen where he was hiding under the sink!
Hey joe,
Got this link from today’s WaPo:
http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/6450422/the_curse_of_dick_cheney
I do believe it tells a more accurate story about your hero, Dick Cheney.
Sayings such as “unringing the bell” have no place in the seriousness of 3100 dead soldiers and 750 soldiers, with their arms and legs blow-off being transported out of Iraq each week. Yes, each week.
Yes, the state of the art medically equipped aircraft used to transport those 750 critical soldiers, first to Germany, then stateside are the best, but the architect of this nightmare, Vice President Richard Cheney, and our new self-appointed messiah, President George W. Bush are treating this waste of life and limb in such a flippant manner, as to be repugnant.
Congress needs to get off their collective asses right now and stop this nonsense and impeach both those clowns, as even the Afghans are smart enough to know that Cheney is pulling the strings, as they tried to blow him up yesterday.
We don’t need slogans, we need action.
