WE Bloggers annoyed at how much attention we’re giving to Sen. Sam Brownback need to get used to it: A Kansan is running for president of the United States. That’s news, because it puts the senator and state on the pundits’ radar, in late-night monologues and elsewhere in the spotlight. Speaking of the comedy factor, Jon Stewart recently dusted off Brownback’s talking embryos floor speech. And Kansas City radio personality Kelly Urich offered this quip: “Bad news for Sam Brownback. The only network that covered his presidential campaign kickoff was the Sci Fi Channel.”
Other Brownback jokes, anyone?

Advertising that a religious nut from Kansas is running for office will only bring more embarrassment to Kansas. We already have Rev. Phelps, Operation Rescue and evolution deniers on the Board of Education. Do we need to point out that another insane cult member is our senator?
I’m not annoyed – but I don’t really read, or participate on many of the Brownback threads. Sure it’s ‘news,’ but it’s not interesting news.
Everyone pretty much agrees that the guy doesn’t stand a chance – but maybe he has a secret supporter in the WE.
You ask, “What do Sam Brownback, John Edwards and Barack Obama have in common?”
Answer, a simple law degree and little else. In all three cases, only minimal real contributory work and leadership experience.
These are “exhorters,” loudly preaching their talking points to the people of America.
Compare their resumes to the our truly great presidents. I don’t have time to list the great ones here … I’m sure you know who they are.
I would think his primary motivation for running would be the federal campaqign funds he is eligible for as well as another campaign arm to raise special interest money — and doesn’t he get to keep what ever he doesn’t spend?
What’s sad is there doesn’t appear to be any one out there who could mount a serious challenge to Roberts or Brownback when they run for re-election.
Does Kansas have enough “pull” to get most / all of the presidential candidates to visit — with all the lead time to the elections / primaries you’d think candidates would make a visit at least once to every state …
Golly gee Rhonda, don’t get in a snit!
What is with those first two lines?
“We’re gonna give you Brownback threads! Suck on it!”
lol
A bit of fyi for the readers.
At the meetup, the editors told us that many local politicians monitor this blog. They said that Brownback’s office in particular keeps up with us.
SO the eds are giving them at least something to read.
What do you say about Sam that has not been said?
He appeals to he half dozen or so fundalmentalist Christians who are for open borders. He has zero charisma. He’s an “also ran”.
I got a more fun idea.
Click on the new Brownback pic for a better look. Then let’s play caption this with the photo. This one has so much potential that I’m drawing a blank.

Brownback running for president is more of a joke than it is news. But, hey, if starting a thread about this joke several times a week makes your quota for threads started you can sit back and relax while we all ignore.
Jon Stewart said that “Sen. Brownback is a vagina.”
I have nothing to add to that.
Ok this pic BEGS for photo shop!
Put a big ol’ hoagie in Sam’s hand. Or a globe. Or a rubber duckie……
Brownback IS the joke.
What is truly depressing is that even an idiot like Brownback couldn’t possibly be as bad a president as the IOC-(Idiot in Charge). He , the IOC, has set the standard, on the very bottom of the scale!
That’s a record to be proud of.
Ok you all know Brownback is the least favorite of all republicans, but I hope he brings some good stuff to the table at least, and I’m not talking rabid religious zealots. He probably would’nt be so bad if he were less holy roller.
He has some good ideas, but nothing a democrat couldn’t do.
And Jwink, how DARE you compare Brownback to Obama, what is wrong with you?
Brownback – Osama Obama – Edwards
All have an equal chance to win the presidency…
…just a shade above zero.
Ken: Of course it’s for the matching funds. And there are some “hoops” to jump through, but, essentially, he does get to keep what’s left over. But, with all of these potential problems looming with Iran, perhaps he should declare his candidacy for Ayatollah, pledging that two theocracies could surely work things out and live happily ever after! As I’ve said before, he’s making such a fool of himself, it would not surprise me to see him jobless after the ‘08 elections.
Uh, RM…..
“As I’ve said before, he’s making such a fool of himself, it would not surprise me to see him jobless after the ‘08 elections”
In Kansas, “making fool of himself” doesnt seem to be much of a liability for politicians. In fact, it seems to be a time honored tradition!
I mean, just look at bonbon, kay o’connor, susan wagle, brenda, et al.
Heck of a job brownback is just following the example of the kansas koulter girls!
I’d much rather see threads making fun of sam the sham than YET another thread trumpeting the virtues of tankerless todd, otherwise known as st. tiahrt.
How’s that power thing working out for kansas and the WE endorsed boy who is now in the minority?
Yep, more brownieback, less tankerless todd. THAT is a good thing. Maybe we will not only be “samless” after 08, but we might hit a double and get rid of toddly too!
Seems like todd will be in MUCH more danger. IF the dems can ever find and support a decent candidate to oppose him. Seems like the dems down their either have a great candidate but cant get the support needed, or they have support but no decent candidate.
How bad does toddly have to be before you all boot him out?
ummm, ksmathgrrl:
Sam was elected in 2004 – with 69% of the vote.Senators have six year terms.2004 + 6 = 2010.
::cue the “h” and “e” ad nauseum ::
Oops, sorry.
Maybe we will be samless after 2010.
See nutz? When yer wrong, it isnt so hard to admit.
Oh, and NUTZ?
It was RM who said 08. I quoted him, and then made the mistake of repeating it.
Interesting that you called me on my math and not RM.
Just trolling me again today? ’cause pmom isnt here?
Bring it on nutz. Kicking your ignorant ass is just another daily annoyance, like shoveling snow or doing laundry.
One more year that can’t come a moment too soon, then.
My fault, Frmgirl, no question. Wishful thinking or just mathematically challenged, take your pick! :)
[ok, so we've curtailed the "hehe" rapidfire...next: anger management]
“One day at a time, sweet Jesus, one day at a time…”
Of course, no group of posters here marches in lock step, but…
Has anyone noticed the usual alignment of nutz, gee sherri, paulie the shillie, JM, fleetie, heckie, and their leader, joe williams?
Versus say, the usual alignment of Ben Huie, VT, Cosmos, Rage, Steven Davis, and others.
Opinions and ideology vs. education, credibility, and facts?
Nutz, you are known by the company you keep….
Nutz? Killed the heheheheheh?
In your freakin’ dreams.
When you stop being a lauging stock, I will stop laughing at you.
You have heard of laughter, no? I mean, you are such a sad little man, er BIG man, that I do wonder if you know what it is like to laugh.
I know you know what it feels like to be laughed AT.
Cue “dance little puppet”….
RM, it’s no big deal to me.
But the nutzster is so desperate to gig me, he even uses your mistake to do it.
He loves to incite anger, and then say “anger management”.
Too bad “ignorance management” isnt part of the lexicon.
Inventory time again? A lying, three hundred pound asshole with bad breath who cheats on his wife and vainly, but unsucessfully chases young women on a regular basis? Oh yeah.
Wonder what else he has lied about, like maybe being a successful entrepreneur?
hehehehehehehehehehehehheehehehhehe
Deep breath
hehehehehehehehehhehehehehehehehehhe
Damn, who would provide the laughs if not nutz?
Oh yeah, and he just loves to “push the buttons” as he says, of the other posters.
Little man? I think you just crave attention. And now you have gotten attention from mommy, so….
…PLEASE go play in the traffic.
IMHO what has happened histoically with Tiahrt wins is that there can be reasonable democrat candidates supported in Wichita, but Todd has an advantage of the single issue voters in the rural areas of his district. In 1996 Randy Rathbun took Wichita, but Tiahrt’s strength in the single issue rural areas helped him prevail.
Care to guess what that single issue is??? That’s right – a protest that Nutz doesn’t get enough to eat. Just kidding, it is obviously abortion.
It’s sad, but every time I read a post from the Nutster, I have this image of a cross between Homer Simpson and Yasser Arafat pounding away at the keyboard while eating sardine and limburger sandwiches.
The guy tried to pass himself off as a Robert Redford look-a-like and it turns out that he is just a posuer.
Actually, I suspect Sam the Sham has a better chance in the GOP primaries than most people think. Iowa came out strong for Pat Robertson in 1988, and South Carolina is up to its gills in twice-born religious extremists.
Giuliani and McCain will split the traditional non-evangelical vote in the primaries and evangelicals will attack Mitt Romney’s Mormonism. They’re already at it, in general terms; listen to so-called “Christian” radio sometime.
Born-agains have provided the margin-of-victory for Republicans since the Gingrich years. No Republican can win a general election without them voting in lockstep. Brownback is posturing for a Vice-Presidential bid; hoping to be the sop by Rudy or McCain to the “Christian” Right agenda.
Odds are strong that George WMD Bush has screwed up so badly that no Republican can win the White House in 2008. But as the GOP’s vice-presidential candidate, Sam probably thinks he can build credibility to be the reactionaries’ choice in 2012.
Brownback’s strength is he knows all the code words of so-called “Social Conservatism.” And he uses them skillfully when facing double-born abortion abolitionists and gay-bashers. He’ll also claim to be able to campaign well in Hispanic regions; he’ll simply speak in tongues.
One should also remember that Sam Brownback promised that he’d serve only two full terms as Senator from Kansas.
After that, he’s going to work for The Lord (but only in an advisory capacity).
Yeah MonkeyHawk.
And Tiahrt was a big fan of term limits and signed the Contract ON America that pushed term limits.
But now? Selective memory. Promises unkept.
“We dont need no stinkin’ term limits when WE are in control”.The republican congress
Sheesh – I see Ksfarmgirl – is back.
Somewhere a village is missing its idiot.
Sheesh – I see Ksfarmgirl – is back.
Somewhere a village is missing its idiot.
A person of integrity would resign their current position due to time spent campaigning. In Brownback’s case it is a good thing to keep him and his vote out of DC. We’ll UNelect him in 2010.
“Sheesh – I see Ksfarmgirl – is back.
Somewhere a village is missing its idiot.”
Are you volunteering?
PS- It was determined last week that KFG is a loon, not an idiot!
Linda, dear: Using the words Brownback and integrity in the same sentence is an oxymoron!! You are SO CORRECT! PC, of course, one can’t say RIGHT anymore. Brownback and his mini-Ayatollahs have made that a bad word.
Truth be told, in a combined 292 years of representation in the United State Senate, the state of Kansas has been represented by Republicans for a combined 275 years. While your left-wing opinions and truth be told blowing of your “we have control” horns are your right as Americans, they are truly obsolete in this state.

GSheridan your future is cancelled.

borg: GSheridan has the right to have her opinions expressed — most of which I virulently disagree with — but the right, nevertheless. If, like Friedemann, you have nothing to offer, save vitriolic ramblings, please save those thoughts and cancel them, (to use your word), and don’t bore us with them. Fair enough? If it’s not, go F**k yourself!
Brownback=Loser!
Yeah, getting Farmie all worked into a sweat is kinda fun. I can make one little comment and she’ll go on for hours. Speaking of button pushing…
“I’ve been an entrepreneur since you were in diapers” – yet, obviously can’t add 4 and 6, nor grasp the concept of going private if she wants to exclude conservatives from her customer base.
I’ll be she’s a huge success.
spot on borg
rm?
Um…..what did Gsheridan bring to this thread?
Let’s see….
Oh ok she took a shot at kfg. The goofnut otherwise known as “lumpy” came and did the same.
Surely you’ll want to correct them with…
“…you have nothing to offer, save vitriolic ramblings, please save those thoughts and cancel them, (to use your word), and don’t bore us with them. Fair enough? If it’s not, go F**k yourself.”
Won’t you?
Bush, Cheney and Brownback decided to take a little walk while discussing the 08′ presidential election coming up.Bush said “It’s kind of windy today”Cheney said “Nooo- I think it is Thursday!’Brownback said ” Yeah me too ‚Äì let’s get a beer!”
OK. They can too! You happy?
A bad joke or maybe a bad dream would be if Brownback actually wins the GOP nomination and then selects Pat Robertson for his Vice President. Really, couldn’t you just picture those two in the White House running to answer the direct line to God?
What is annoying about all of the Brownback blog entries is that none of them are taking the correct tongue in cheek approach to the campaign. Brownback is the GOP version of the Sharpton campaign, we all know that Brownback will not win. He is only in the race to make noise, yet Rhonda and the WE still seem to not be in on the joke. Just recently an entry was posted that was serious about Brownback’s ability to become VP, which I rank as just slightly below my dogs chance to win the World Series of Poker. The stories and entries always approach the Brownback presidential campaign as a serious story about a serious candidate, not the running joke that it really is.
Will the burning bush be allowed to smoke in the White House?
Steve: You are right, except, that the anger you are seeing is from the people who realize that Brownback is just making us the butt of more bad jokes, just like Sharpton is doing to “hiz folk|” They don’t want him anymore than we want Brownback. And, come to think of it, they both have “Goofy Hair” — maybe their next gigs could be with Revlon … or Elmer’s Glue … or Jiffy Lube!!!
Just what we needed, another Dan Quayle.
“In 1996 Randy Rathbun took Wichita, but Tiahrt’s strength in the single issue rural areas helped him prevail.”
Take alook at the rural areas, and you’ll understand why. The area around Tiahrt is predominantly Catholic, therefore anti-abortion. Those towns that aren’t considered Catholic have more churches than they have people to attend them, or it can seem so. He’s not a dummy, just little man with evil eyes. He knows how to play people, and he’s obviously done it well.
Brownback is much the same.
