Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., surely thought he’d be the religious right’s guy for 2008 by now, if not from the get-go. But yet another article, this about dissatisfaction about the presidential choices expressed at a recent meeting of the Christian conservative-dominated Council for National Policy, counted Brownback among candidates raising doubts about their ability to unify conservatives and raise enough money to win. These leaders also are queasy about Brownback’s support for a guest-worker program and failure to say much about the threat of radical Islam. Grover Norquist of Americans for Tax Reform suggested Brownback and the other problem candidates still could redeem themselves by making certain promises that would distance themselves from their past.
"It’s called secondary virginity," Norquist said. "It is a big movement in high school and also available for politicians."

snore . . . hrmpfh . . . . snuorh . . . heeeheh . . . snore . . . brown . . . what . . . yawn . . .
Brownback can’t get the support of the reich wing theocrats because he just doesn’t hate those brown skinned people enough. Goodness, supporting Hispanics and Africans, that’s a sin in the fundy’s bible.
Hold on, folks, we’re hijacking this yawner–
WASHINGTON (AFP) – The gulf between rich and poor in the United States is growing wider than ever, and the number of extremely impoverished is at a three-decade high, a report out Saturday found.Based on the latest available US census data from 2005, the McClatchy Newspapers analysis found that almost 16 million Americans live in “deep or severe poverty” defined as a family of four with two children earning less than 9,903 dollars — one half the federal poverty line figure.
For individuals the “deep poverty” threshold was an income under 5,080 dollars a year.
“The McClatchy analysis found that the number of severely poor Americans grew by 26 percent from 2000 to 2005,” the US newspaper chain reported.
“That’s 56 percent faster than the overall poverty population grew in the same period,” it noted.
The surge in poverty comes alongside an unusual economic expansion.
“Worker productivity has increased dramatically since the brief recession of 2001, but wages and job growth have lagged behind. At the same time, the share of national income going to corporate profits has dwarfed the amount going to wages and salaries,” the study found.
“That helps explain why the median household income for working-age families, adjusted for inflation, has fallen for five straight years.”

Hmmm . . . isn’t The Eagle a McClatchy newspaper.
Guess millions more poor people just isn’t as exciting as a go-nowhere presidental bid.
He’s going to be tilting at windmills next. And when he does, The Eagle will breathlessly report it . . .
‘Hijacking’? Homeland Security, Homeland Security!
Great to see Norquist scraping the bottom of the barrel to come up with someone ideologically pure enough to appeal to him and his fellow fascists.
What a consummate asshole. Great to see him and his ilk all dressed up, but with no candidate to go.
Amnesty Sam may have some blowback on his amnesty support now that the Mexican Wives have set up a web site asking the US to enforce our immigration laws and to send their husbands BACK to Mexico…Ooops.

Which is to funny.
It is really sad commentary on the modern GOP that Brownback may not hate brown people and non Christians enough to be their candidate.
The contemporary GOP bears almost no resemblance to the party of Eisenhower (or even Goldwater.) They are mostly a collection of shills for big-haired preachers and professional politicians (such as our other senator) wanting to be Bush’s prison bitch.
Brownjerk — “a born again virgin”!That’s falling down on the floor, rolling around laughing funny. Only the religious right wing whackos could come up with that. I thought the funniest thing I had heard today was some professional geneologist has determined that the late Strom Thurmond and “the Reveren’ AL” Sharpton are related, and the “Teh Reveren’” is going to have a DNA test, but this tops that!
Ah yes, and thanks once again for Rhonda’s daily Christian baiting blog. I understand she’s in the finals for the annual Bitch of Belsen act alike contest. Hmmmmm, Sam Brownback as a lampshade. Probably go over big with this bunch.
The problem for these people claiming to be doing “God’s work”, is to be shown to be wrong it is impossible to admit it was a mistake or that it is a “unchristian” way of thinking. Else for them it would be the same as saying that God was wrong. These modern day Pharisees such as Pastor Fox, by saying that it is God commanding them to take action. Put the blame for their actions on God and take no personal responsibility for acts that otherwise would be called hateful, racist or bigoted.
The marriage amendment was one of the most hateful, deceitful and discriminatory piece of work since slavery. Denying basic privilege to a group that is a given right for others based solely on something that is not within they control. (yes I know I am starting another round in that old debate) It was based on a very human distain against homosexuality, but cloaked in a set of scripture that was directed toward people of the faith.
But by covering them selves with the cover of “God’s word” these people can act in a very unchristian way.Ignore basic Christian believes and if the world comes down around they ears. Point to God and saying it is the Lord’s fault and it is the forces of the Devil that are working against them. Generating a self fulfilling prophecy that as Christians they are being put upon for their faith.
WD: I think you hit the nail on the head when you said they are using this bullshit to avoid any personal responsibility. I sure they conveniently forget David Berkowitz’(Son of Sam) blaming the murders on the “dog”, and then, it was determined that Berkowitz was dyslexic. What is the difference between the religious right whackos and the self-styled Muslim fundamentalist martyrs? Oh wait, the fundies aren’t willing to blow themselves up — they’re content with blowing other up other people. We need Roscoe to blow himself up to show these milquetoasts what real commitment is. That would kill two birds with one stone ! Pun intended.
Senator Brownback was responsible for passing the International Romance Regulation Act of 2005…The most undemocratic and unconstitutinal law ever pased by the US government.
This draconian law was develped by Senator Brownback working secretly with the Senator Cantwell (D-WA.
The laws provisions are like a brute blocade making it impossible for American men to meet foreign women for marriage. As a result of Brownback’s law American men must provide hard copy about their criminal, family court orders and arrest records to a marriage introduction service before they can say “hello” to a woman in another country. In additional the law mandates that background checks be performed before the couple is allow to marry in the United States. This unconstitutional law practically destroyed 10,000 marriages back in May 2006. Under all law all International marriages are “suspect” and subjected to intense government scrutiny – ironically not for National Security purposes.http://www.visapro.com/Immigration-News/?a=440&z=15
While Senator Brownback has been courting radical feminists he fails to underestimate the backlash from law abiding American men who are realizing their basic human rights of marriage and correspondence without undue government interference is being taken away by Senator Brownback and his radical feminist croonies.Senator Brownback you’ve got some explaining to do!
If Brownback is not the Christian Conservatives candidate, then who will they support? Surely not Guiliani with his multiple marriages and that messy divorce. McCain? The Evangelicals spit on McCain in the 2000 race. Romney? A true Evangelical Christian would never vote for a Mormom – even though Romeny is the only one in the bunch who is still married to his first wife.
Brownback does not have the name recognition the evangelicals require and it sounds like they don’t fully trust Brownback.
I’m sure the purported benefit of the International Marriage Brokers Regulation Act of 2005 was to protect citizens from unscrupulous foreign marriage brokerage scams. As I read it, nothing in the Act prevents you from meeting, falling in love with, marrying a young lady who happens not to be a citizen of the United States. It happens many times, every day. The Act applies only to commercial “marriage brokerages”. The “love police” are not going to come and kick your door in, Dave. But, your point is well made. Brownjerk and his ilk, since God has bestowed ‘His Truth’ only upon the chosen few, must protect us sinners from ourselves. Once again, they can take the credit from those who agree with them, but since God directed them, they bear no personal responsibility to those who disagree. And he can now tell his flock of his “good works” protecting weakling men from foreign “jezebels” and “harlots”!
Programming alert: ANYONE CONCERNED ABOUT OUR IRAQ VETERANS! Tonight at 10 PM Channel 12 is doing a story about a returning Iraq veteran finding his mortgage doubled. I don’t know any more detail than that but intend to watch. I urge others to join me.
Lucee: They’ll have no choice but to support whoever gets the Republican nomination. Brownjerk is not now, nor ever has been, a viable candidate. That’s the only choice they’ve ever had, so they are neither better nor worse off than they were. Either that, or don’t vote. And the Republicans are so deep in the hole already, they certainly wouldn’t hang an albatross like Brownjerk around their own neck as Vice-President. The RR are vocal as hell, but, contrary to what they would have you believe, do not have the numbers.
Ben: Just watched that, and it appears there will be a positive outcome, but, as the vet asked, “Why did it have to take getting a television station involved to get it straightened out?” And I was not satisfied with Wells Fargo’s excuse: “We’re not perfect.”
And Lucee, just because they are radically Religious Rightist Republicans, they’re not stupid. Of course they don’t trust him!!!!
Ditto rm!
A little over two years ago Wells Fargo bought our mortgage. It must have been one of those they had to take to get the money makers since ours pays off later this fall (Hooray!!).
The first thing they did was bill us twice for the first month and hound us because we only paid once. That one was a nightmare I don’t want to relive.
Then shortly after the first of the year (a few months into them having the mortgage) they sent us a notice of how much our payment would increase if we didn’t pay the HUGE shortfall in our escrow account. They had doubled our property tax! Again, not an easy or fun fix.
Last summer when we needed their endorsement on the hail storm claim check AGAIN we had to jump through hoops — ended up going to the east office because the west office was absolutely IMPOSSIBLE.
I promised Wells Fargo at that time I would never do business with them again and would tell everyone I had the opportunity of about their poor business practices, and the incompetent employees. I can always be trusted to make true on my promises.
Sue Christensen, Branch Manager of the Wells Fargo office on West 21st, is unable to handle her job. Wells Fargo in general is not the place you want to handle your mortgage. That is, unless you really enjoy spending many hours on the phone trying to find someone/anyone interested enough or capable of helping you fix their errors.
I feel better already!
lindainks55- I had a similar experience with Wells Fargo acquiring my morgage- also soon to be history. So far I haven’t had any problems, but I keep a close eye on them.
Brownback is only a few endorsements away from being able to beat the margin of error in a poll. Even the fundie right is not stupid enough to throw away their support on a hopeless candidate.
I have mixed feelings about Sammy. On one hand, if he is the nominee, he will be a bigger embarassment to Kansasans than the Westboro Baptist Church is but on the other hand he would make electing a Democrat much easier!
Compare presidential candidate from Kansas, Sam Brownback … to another Kansan, presidential candidate, general of the armies, Dwight David Eisenhower, from Abilene, Kansas.
Stop laughing, I wasn’t telling a joke.
There is no comparison…none whatsoever.
