Who wants Ryun to run again?

Defeated Kansas Rep. Jim Ryun says he’ll be back to take on Rep. Nancy Boyda, D-Topeka, in 2008 — but will GOP stalwarts still be there backing him? Ryun could be seen as damaged goods, especially if a stronger GOP challenger emerges; Republican state Treasurer Lynn Jenkins reportedly may run. Meanwhile, Ryun has blamed his loss mostly on the media and a national anti-GOP surge, not on himself. "I was on the wrong corner (at) the wrong time," he said.

Who wants Ryun to run again?

I’d like to see him run again in one of those Masters track meets. He could run the featured mile event against Marty Liquori, Sebastian Coe, Kip Keino and those guys.

The best thing that could ever happen to that area was getting rid of Jim Ryun. I have had the unfortunate of meeting the guy. He is not the smartest individual I have ever met. No wonder why he likes the crew in the White House so much!!

What an incredible story. To be a world class athlete while still in high school. Wichita East wasn’t it? Then a world record holder. Then the US House of Representatives. Not too shabby.

I suppose though, that the hero status could only take Ryan so far. A lot of the newer voters probably have no idea. From then on, you have to be a politician. Which means you have to get good at the half-truths, intentional omissions, lies etc…, it takes to be a successful politician.

So, if you’re not good at that, then you won’t last long. Remember, “truth has no place in politics”. So I don’t look for JR to make a comeback.

Only about 28% of CH4 is from livestock,http://www.epa.gov/methane/rlep/faq.html“Globally, ruminant livestock … accounting for about 28% of global methane emissions from human-related activities.”

    Outlander,

Jim Ryun not only set the world record for the mile run, he shattered the then existing record by several seconds. His time was 3:51.something.

Besides being a world class athelete in High School, he delivered the Wichita Eagle. He was also an excellent sports photographer.

Does anyone know what type of church he belongs to. I have heard strange things about his practices, like he won’t let people date his kids unless they are marriage candidates – stuff like that. Is that true, or not?

I believe also that one of his sons went to Patrick Henry College, which is set up for evangelical kids who were home schooled. Those grads tend to be real conservative and are accused of having dominionist sympathies. The son in question works as a low level staffer in the WhiteHouse somewhere.

Cosmos – the cartoon boy, I’m going to give you a head’s up here, because I like you; I wont post any statistical statement without FIRST knowing I have the resources to back it up.

According to the UN report just released, cows ARE the largest single contributor to the destruction of the environment. You’ll just have to learn to deal with the facts, kiddo.

[quote] Meet the world’s top destroyer of the environment. It is not the car, or the plane,or even George Bush: it is the cow.

A United Nations report has identified the world’s rapidly growing herds of cattle as the greatest threat to the climate, forests and wildlife. And they are blamed for a host of other environmental crimes, from acid rain to the introduction of alien species, from producing deserts to creating dead zones in the oceans, from poisoning rivers and drinking water to destroying coral reefs.[endquote]

Ryun attends a fundamentalist evangelical non-denominational speakin’-in-tongues, roll-on-the-floor church in Topeka. When they’re in Topeka. Which wasn’t often except during election year.

Jim and Anne Ryun didn’t allow their kids to date. Instead, they advocate “courtship,” an evangelical concept that says a guy must approach a girl’s parents and declare his intention to marry the girl before they can see each other; and only in “family-centered” contexts, like a backyard barbecue. They wrote a tretise on courtshil that was on Focus on the Family’s website for a long time. Might still be there.

Ann Ryun is the brains (such as they are) of the outfit and the driving force of Ryun’s fundamentalist agenda. Ryun was raised by conservative Christians who, reportedly, disowned him after he sired an out-of-wedlock child in high school. He basically was adopted by legendary University of Kansas track coach Bob Timmons and has been paid under-the-table virtually all his life. His photo-journalist job at the Topeka Capital-Urinal was essentially a no-show gig, administered by Head Photographer Rich Clarkson. Ryun admitted in his autobiography that he took illegal pay-offs during his so-called “amateur” athletic career.

When I read people claim that Kansas newspapers are biased toward liberals, the absolute media silence about Ryun’s career, before and during his congressional years, makes me want to gag.

GS: That report is interesting, but having said that, and having been involved in the oil business in one way or the other for about 40 years, I have to question the validity of anything coming out of the UN. I’d also be interested in the ownership and agenda of The Independent. Just because I would like to believe something because it “fits nicely” does not lend it credibility.

    GSheridan,

You link only says “… 18 per cent of the greenhouse gases that cause global warming, more than [transport]”

Is that 18% more than the GHG’s emitted by all power plants (coal, nat gas, etc)? What causes the other 64+%?You claimed cows were the “GREATEST man-induced cause” of GW, so “back it up”.
