Three in positions to make Wichita proud

Two other Kansas newspapers’ lists of “key players” in Topeka in 2007 included no Wichitans, and for good reason. In terms of top leadership posts, including in the Legislature, Wichita-area residents continue to be underachievers. But three locals got some prominent new assignments this week that reflect well on them and their constituents: State Sen. Jean Schodorf, R-Wichita (in photo), was named chairwoman of the Senate’s new higher education task force, which will focus on public universities’ repair backlog, rising tuition rates, and future governance of vocational and technical schools. Sen. Carolyn McGinn, R-Sedgwick, was one of three senators chosen to make up a new Senate Energy Council, tasked with developing an energy agenda for the chamber. And Carol Rupe of Wichita, a Republican, was elected vice chairwoman of the Kansas State Board of Education, by the board’s new moderate majority.

I don’t think underachievers was a proper category for Wichita representatives. Perhaps those not in the ‘good old boys and girls’ network in Topeka would have been a better description.

What should have been is that three Wichitan do the city proud and leave it at that. Let’s just hope they don’t get buried in the Democratic Party’s bag of dirty tricks and slander.

The only thing a Republican can do to make me proud is RESIGN

One Wichita Representative, Jason Watkins, will never make anyone proud. He couldn’t make his own parents proud — too stupid, too partisan, too much of a liar (and that only scratches the surface of his failings!). Underachieving would be a stretch for him!

“underachievers” because they don’t get appointing to some chairmanship? I totally disagree with that characterization.

For example, Nile Dillmore is a hard working repersentative who listens to his consituents and votes after researching issues. He is not in a leadership position, but he is a great example of what our system of representative government should be.

Nile Dilmore? He’s a Lib, Riverside is Lib (I live in Riverside) so I guess it’s a perfect match.

Isn’t there a groundswell happening to ask that the arena be voted on again?

Must be two Jason Watkins in Kansas. The other one is a Republican state legislator, honest, relatively young, very bright, continuously gaining experience in the legislative halls of Topeka. Mr. Watkins’ parents must be very proud of his accomplishments.

And congratulations to state senators Jean Schodorf and Carolyn McGuinn and moderate member of the Kansas Board of Education, Carol Rupe, on your new leadership positions in Topeka.

The editorial board just cannot get over it’s self. You think that the only good legislators in Topeka are those that agree with the editorial board or the WE. There is a lot of good done by legislators in Topeka that the WE does not talk about.

There are several legislators with chairmanships that the WE like to ignore. It’s a good thing these legislators are there and don’t worry about getting any headlines in the press. And the WE can continue to ignore them because they are doing a fine job without you.

Being a legislator is a thankless job. They are put on public display, their personal lives are no longer private, their children read and hear ugly things said about their mom, dad, grandma, grandpa and most of the time it is done with very little recognition. They have to put up with things said about them that are not substantiated with any facts. All of the ugly words and mean words are done in the freedom of speech.

I for one am glad that there are individuals out there that are willing to do the job. Without them we would be controlled by a dictatorship (which is probably what the WE and press would like to see).

So for what it is worth I for one would like to say “Thank You” to the individuals and their families for their willingness to represent all of us.

Poor fleet;I heard once that a politician went door-to-door and when he knocked on Fleets door Fleet said – “you are a dem! I have told you I will never vote for a Dem, so why do you keep knocking on my door?”

The dem said “because I keep winning!”
