Famed country singer Toby Keith, who engaged in a public feud with the Dixie Chicks and once sang a two-fisted song about putting “a boot in [the] ass” of the terrorists, tells Newsday that he doesn’t support the Iraq war. “’Never did,’ he says — and he favors setting a time limit on the occupation. He says he suspects civil war in Iraq is inevitable and predicts the Kurds will be the victors: ‘I promise you, they’ll end up with it all.’”

Welcome, Toby, to the Reality-Based Community.

Just to clarify, “The Angry American” was written about 9-11 and fit into the invasion of Afghanistan.Yeah two totally different things from Iraq, I believe Afghanistan was right and the thing to do under the circumstances , Iraq was a mistake and a real distraction from the fight on terrorism. So Keith is patriotic and smart… I knew I could not be the only one!

As an American, Keith has every right to privately support or not support any action – as he chooses.

What is REALLY funny is his description of the current Democrat Party:

[Here at home, he worries that the Democratic party is being taken over by "every other nut and fruitcake organization" from the left,...]

That just cracks me up. And he’s soooo right – the Dem Party is losing it – big time.

Thanks for telling it like it is, Toby.

The difference in Toby and the Dixie Chicks is Toby doesn’t go around the world spewing Anti-Bush vitriol. Toby stands up for our men and women in uniform, while the DC’s sound like another bunch of bitter anti-war harpies.

    Cindy Sheehan is a terrorist?

Please explain how you feel that way. She has done nothing but speak in opposition to a war based on lies, that was led by incompetent warmongers, that killed her own son.

It’s disgusting that you talk so ill of her.

  12. Posted January 27, 2007 at 10:37 am | Permalink

She is at least an anti-war kook, who supports dictators like Hugo Chavez. In doing so, she actively supports the terrorists and the enemy’s of this country. Also look at Kieth Ellison’s support for CAIR.

Cindy Sheehan FREQUENTLY asks why bush is not more actively pursuing Osama bin Laden instead of misadventure in Iraq.

Just when did Hugo Chavez attack America? He attacked bush. There IS a difference.

Hugo Chavez may be an ass, but he is not a dictator. He is a legally elected President (who actually had people run against him unlike Saddam). Columbia is not a terrorist state, and they do not support terrorism. Chavez is just a Noam Chomsky disciple (American-Hater). Which is his right. And since you could not explain how Chavez is a terrorist, your “explanation” of Cindy Sheehan being one is gone.

I think that limiting where she could protest on public property into “free-speech zones” where nobody can see them is the REAL CRIME. A clear violation of her Consitutional right to assemble and not one conservative, self-annointed “Defenders of the Constitution”, gives a shit.

At the beginning of thread Toby Keith was being praised for being so patriotic because he made these great songs about kicking our enemy’s ass but he secretly was against going to Iraq. Of course he kept that to himself until now and made a shit load of money. However the Dixie Chicks have been harrassed beyon belief because they went to Europe and said out loud what many people believe. This is kind of like have a pedophile in the family and everyone quietly avoids and talks about him and how bad he is but then gets angry when someone finally stands up and calls him what he is and points out his wake of distruction.Face it guys, Toby is no different than anybody else. He can say he is against the war in Iraq because he knows the tide has turned and he won’t lose his fans. When it wasn’t expedient to say it he kept it to himself. Actually the Dixie Chicks have been more honest and have suffered greatly for their beliefs but they have stuck to them. It’s a black eye to Clear Channel who set out to destroy them.

I think Cindy Sheehan, should shut her mouth and go home! Stay home and keep her mouth shut!

She suffered a loss, as well as many others, who are dignified enough, to keep their thoughts and feelings, private. I’m sorry, for them!

Cindy Sheehan, is an abcess, to this country! The money to support her frequent activities, does not come from her pockets but, from supporters that will do anything , to undermine the integrity of this country.

Does anybody but me feel the IQ points go out of this forum everytime we get a post from the goof nut or GSheridan?

Toby Keith? Who can say? He may have honestly changed his opinion on the war. Many have. Or he may not have the courage of the Dixie Chicks. Or he may be responding TO the change in attitude to the war.

Hey even the Billy bobs, Bubba genes and Ellie Maes can’t be fooled forever.

Cindy Sheehan? She is speaking her mind. I’d say she’s earned that right. But since when did that right have to be earned anyway? There are PLENTY of grieving parents that comfort themselves that their kids died for…..something….in this misadventure. They are strutted out all the time by Hannity and Rush and Boortz and Levin. No one tells THEM to shut up. Here for the first time? I will say what I would say to them.

I am so sorry for your loss. If it gives you some measure of comfort to feel that your child died for this country or for some greater good? You are correct. They did. A soldiers portion is duty. But in a larger sense they died because their nation failed them. Pride in that only encourages more of the same.

Cindy, has a right to speak her mind! She’s just, in the way!

She’s, just a SLUG! She, just doesn’t know it! Just being used by the media, to accomplish their means.

    * George Bush goes into unilaterally into Iraq thumbing his nose at the rest of the world, and it turns out to be quagmire. We say, “this plan isn’t working. Do something different.”

And you say, “you never wanted Bush to win because you hate America.”

    * After four years, things are getting worse not better. The person most responsible for it is the person who ordered the troops in. We say, “Bush must be held accountable for his decisions.”

You say, “The chaos in Iraq is the Iraqis’ fault. They don’t have good leaders. Nothing is Bush’s fault, and anyone who says it is, is just a ‘Bush-basher’ who is never happy about anything. Oh, and by the way, you hate America.”
