CKD’s source for scholarship funding.Courtesy of CKD:http://www.ceokansas.org/CEO-Supporters.html
Wow, I got the ‘bot’ on my very first post today.Gonna’ be a long day on WE Blog.
So you support school choice Tracy? That’s very unleftist of you.
Joe, that must be why I categorize myself as a centrist.(read: registered democrat)I believe that private schools should be privately funded. That’s the entire extent of my opinion on this.
As far as Cindy running for school board, she has credentials and lots of hands on experience.Seems like a good candidate.I would urge that you vote on principals, not personalities. If you have a more qualified candidate, by all means, vote for them.
And speaking of education:Science StopperOver at the Discovery Institute’s Evolution News and Views blog, Robert Crowther argues that intelligent design isn’t a science stopper. Dogmatic Darwinists, asserts Crowther, are the ones putting the brakes on.
“No serious ID scientist or scholar has ever thrown up her hands and said, “Well, this is unexplained by natural causes, so let’s stop researching it.”
Really?
At the Dover intelligent design trial, while under cross-examination by plaintiff attorney Scott Rothschild, biochemist Michael Behe claimed ID was testable in the laboratory.
Here’s the exchange:
Rothschild: And I’m correct when I asked you, you would need to see a step-by-step description of how the immune system, vertebrate immune system developed?
Behe: Not only would I need a step-by-step, mutation by mutation analysis, I would also want to see relevant information such as what is the population size of the organism in which these mutations are occurring, what is the selective value for the mutation, are there any detrimental effects of the mutation, and many other such questions.
Rothschild: And you haven’t undertaken to try and figure out those?
Behe: I am not confident that the immune system arose through Darwinian processes, and so I do not think that such a study would be fruitful.
Rothschild: It would be a waste of time?
Behe: It would not be fruitful.
Sounds to us as though Michael Behe has thrown up his hands and given up before he even got started.

Cindy for school board? No thanks.
I don’t know that we have a position of elected holier than thou nag. Maybe Cindy could run for that if we did.
Tracy you have totally lost your mind if you think she’d make a good school board person.
Damn man, and we just booted most of the fundies, and now you want to instill more? Principles are exactly WHY you should vote against her.
Looks like Suzie Wagle has done it again:
http://kansasgovernor.blogspot.com/2007/01/gop-gov-candidate-being-sued.html
Why can’t she just go away?
I’m just sayin’………”I would urge that you vote on principals, not personalities. If you have a more qualified candidate, by all means, vote for them.”
Principals are not up for election.Vote on the other principles.
I’m not actually endorsing anyone.
Bwahahahaha on Kathy’s post.
Dang it, it’s a sad state of affairs for republicans if they have to lie about contributions in the RED state of Kansas.
Typical republiCONS.
Sorry, Tracy, you are usually right, but you are far wrong on Duckett. She is the Connie Morris candidate in Wichita.
Her career and energy goes to usurp public school education in favor of private schools. We want her on the BOE?
Would you hire Connie Morris as a biology professor? If you would, be sure to vote for Duckett for the BOE.
Also vote against Karl Peterjohn – the same man that Winston Brooks called a racist on television.
I think TRACY is being ironic or something.
Dammit quit kicking around that name! You just KNOW old scoldilocks is reading this stuff! You are just inviting her to come in here!
Do you remember the “summer of love” – that was ‘91 or ‘92 – when Stewart Berger was the superindentent of USD 259. There was BOE whose name I can’t recall who hated him and they (Berger and this lady) all summer long went at each other with hammer and tong.
Any way, I bring up this less than illustrious history lesson to say that the above would look like child’s play if Duckett or Peterjohn are elected to the USD 259 BOE.
For the best interests of our schools and community, vote against Duckett & Peterjohn.
If people voted on principals, they wouldn’t vote democrat or republican.
J R is worried because CKD had a crush on him, or wanted to help him in some way???
Hey J R, are you going to the blog meet-up? It has been almost a year since I’ve seen you. Hope you can make it.
That’s right, Proud, but would they vote libertarian?
As I said on the meetup thread, the editors did not comment on whether they were kid friendly.
SO on the impetus of Julie who addressed the issue proactively and is bringing her rather active 4 year old, I will most likely attend and bring my son with me.
And you are wrong Steven. It is TRACY who gets the love letters from the Duckster.
J R,
Are you sure you weren’t the beneficiary of Cindy’s affections. I was thinking you were, being the “big fish in this small pond” and all.
I will have to keep searching archives for some of her winning posts.
Oh, glad to hear you’re coming tonight.
The district where Duckett is running is in far south Wichita. I won’t get the honor of voting against her. Her opponent Jeff Davis (no relative) is a Wichita Police Dept. Sergent.
Speaking of sections of town, has anybody else seen the special limited edition “ad” for Wichita area Barbies that is making the email rounds – there is a Eastbourough Barbie, an Old Town Barbie, a Haysville Barbie, etc. It is hysterical and in some ways too close to true.
I’ll send it to those who would be interested and I would trust with my real email address.
My 4 year old is usually well behaved in public. I promised to bring blogbaby to next meetup and the 4 year old had the choice whether to come with me and behave or stay with a sitter.
Steven D,
Even if they didn’t voter Libertarian (my preference) the political landscape would be very different. I am just as tired as anyone by the ‘lesser of two evils’ consistently presented on election day. If the WE would report on all serious candidates and not only report on so-called ‘viable’ candidates Kansas would change for the better.
If Global Warming is nothing but “junk science,” like all the reich-winger say, why did their hero George W. Bush say in his state of the Union address:
“America is on the verge of technological breakthroughs that will enable us to live our lives less dependent on oil. And these technologies will help us be better stewards of the environment, and they will help us to confront the serious challenge of global climate change. (Applause.)”
Wait a minute! Global climate change has nothing to do with us! The sun is getting hotter. It’s just a natural cycle. In the 70’s everybody was worried about how cold it was etc. etc.
So which is it?
Junk science? or Bush is w-w-wrong?
Duckett on the school board.
That’s like hiring Borat to lead diversity training . . .
BUZZZZ…..BUZZZZZZZ!!!!!!Man, ya’ll just jump at those three letters doancha? (CKD)And rightfully so.Man, she can give an ass-eatin’ that’d beat JR & CF put together!!HA.I know, I got mine right here! But hey, don’t jump to any conclusions.1)I don’t live in that district,so I don’t have a dog in this fight.2)All I did was put up a link listing the benefactors.3)I posted the facts only.a)She has the credentialsb)She has the experiencec)My only opinion is that private schools should be funded privately.(In case your objections to CKD are support for vouchers)
She knows that if this is a stepping stone to the state level for her, we would be adversaries because of her stance on the science standards. If that stance were to change, I’d review my position. Then only.
Tracy,I think we all get the bot when we post a linke (your first post of the day).
Sorry I’m slow to respond. It’s been a busy day in GolfLand.
linke? hehlink.
Capn,
Re the SOTU’s wimpy “America is on the verge of a technological breakthroughs… to confront the serious challenge of global climate change.”
That ignores the fact that we could greatly increase mpg, and other GHG’s emissions with CURRENT technology.
Basically it’s saying we should wait, not do anything now.
Interesting tool to search thru the 7 SOTU’s since 2001 — gives # of times word/phrase used, and context.http://www.nytimes.com/ref/washington/20070123_STATEOFUNION.html?initialWord=oil
CaptCrunch,We get it. You hate Bush. You hate everything he does. You hate everything he stands for. You hate anything and everything that comes out of the republican party. You hate capitalism. You hate freedom. You hate America.
You’re a one-trick pony.
You’ve made that abundantly clear.
That’s about the pot calling the kettle black, Nut.
I’m fairly certain there isn’t a single liberal on this blog that hates America, we might hate things that are done in our country’s name or hate seeing our country ruined, but we don’t hate our country. Keep in mind it is OUR country, not just yours and people that think like you.
Only a REAL America-hater could support Bush’s “stay-the-failed-course” escalation approach.
I wonder if Cindy will come down there to the meet and meet you guys? You know, press the flesh, kiss the blogbaby, and generally campaign.Ya’ll better wear some name-tags so she knows who’s but to kick.HA
KSGolfNut–
A one-trick pony is saying that I’m an America-hater.
Because I love my country, I hate what Bush has done to it.
And btw, calling me an America-hater in no way gets you people out of the logical conundrum you’re now in–either global warming is not manmade (as you and Rush and the rest of the ostriches say) and YOU’RE WRONG.
Or Der Fuehrer W. is WRONG.
It has to be one or the other, so which is it?
Tracy – Hush your mouth! I am not above driving down there and washing your mouth out with Lava soap.
“Der Fuehrer”
More hate. *shock*
Me? Wrong? Never!
What, me worry?
GoofNut–
Having any luck finding that poll that said only 42 percent of military opposed Bush’s Iraq plans?
Look up your butt again . . . that’s where you got it the first time.
But don’t let it stop you from calling Webb a liar or anything.
Just cause you have no proof.
Der Fuehrer just means the Leader in German . . . nothing wrong with that.
Just like when the right-wing said that “madrassa” is just the word for school . . .
Julie, have your name-tag ready. You’ll be okay.Worst case scenario?Everybody run at the same time. And stay in the middle of the crowd when you run.Worked in some gulags,it’s worth a shot.
This is the poll your buddy DA posted as “proof”
http://www.militarycity.com/polls/2006_main.php
“Only 35 percent of the military members polled this year said they approve of the way President Bush is handling the war, while 42 percent said they disapproved.”
While not a “majority” a clear plurality disapprove of Bush’s handling of the war. So, golfnuts, while you crow that only 42% out-and-out disapprove note that an even smaller 35% approve.
no-name,I’m only “crowing” that Webb lied when he said “majority”.
Clearly, he did.
I wonder if there was enough information available to discern how the 23% split. That would probably make the difference.
Re the 42%/35% disapprove/approve — was 23% no opinion, or DECLINED to answer?http://www.militarycity.com/polls/2006_main.phpOn many questions in the poll, some respondents said they didn’t have an opinion or declined to answer. That number was typically in the 10 percent range.
But on questions about the president and on war strategy, that number reached 20 percent and higher. Segal said he was surprised the percentage refusing to offer an opinion wasn’t larger.
“There is a strong strain in military culture not to criticize the commander in chief,” he said.
# 10, “Decline to answer” = 12%.Probably disaprove, and 42 + 12 = 54%
Some of the “No opinion” (10%) may have said that, not wanting to criticize.http://www.militarycity.com/polls/2006poll_iraq.php
Cos – you’re reachin’
golfnuts,
So you believe that most/all of those 12% actually “approve” of his war strategy, but “declined to answer” because they did not want to PRAISE their commander in chief?
And same for the 10%, “No Opinion”? Why?
BTW, Golf, IIRC from something you posted a while back, happy anniversary.
Cos,We just don’t know. When reviewing and establishing conclusions from statistical data, we don’t base statements like “majority of the military” on beliefs.
VT,Thanks. Fifteen glorious years.
golfnuts,
In other words, you prefer to ignore this relevant factor:“There is a strong strain in military culture not to criticize the commander in chief,” he said.
Notice how the poll has the category “Decline to answer” only on #’s 6, 10, and 11.http://www.militarycity.com/polls/2006poll_iraq.php
Cos,There is no doubt that this poll shows that members of the military have significant disdain for the war in Iraq. However, it does not say what Webb said.
An interesting look at the Scooter Libby case, and an unexpected defense, to wit: he was made a scapegoat to protect Karl Rove, per Libby’s attorney in opening argument, supposedly quoting Libby himself. No warranties, express or implied.
http://thehill.com/thehill/export/TheHill/Comment/ByronYork/012507.html
Scoot’s attorney is just saying out loud what a lot of us have been muttering – He threw himself on his sword, took one for the team, etc., to keep Dubya and Rove in power. Now he’s having second thoughts about being a good soldier now that he might actually have to go to prison while the rest of the scumbags walk off scot free.
Cathie Martin’s testamony hurts Libby.

As I posted yesterday the Feds are masters at squeezing the gonads of one rat in the hopes of getting that rat to rat out other rats. This may be happening here.

It is wrong to use the words Democrat, Republican and principles in the same sentence.
I met Cindy’s mom tonight. I don’t know much about Cindy since I don’t live in Wichita. But her mom can sure crawl up your butt when she gets pissed but she just wants to help others. I’ve know her mom for several years and recognized cindy’s name from reading the comments here.
