Not smoking, early detection are working

Some lagging trends are worrisome. This is just plain great: the United States’ declining rate of cancer deaths. According to the American Cancer Society, the number dipped in 2003 for the first time since 1930, and the decline continued through 2004, to 553,888 total deaths. Experts say fewer Americans are smoking and more people are benefiting from early detection and better treatment of tumors. Whatever it is, it’s working. The good news should inspire those due for a mammogram, PSA test, colonoscopy or checkup to make that call. President Bush’s related call for Congress to better protect patients’ genetic information should be heeded, too.

Democratic Presidential hopeful Barak Hussein Obama is a heavy cigeratte smoker. How is he going to convience people to live healthy lives or the Health Insurrance companies to comply with Universal Health Coverage when his addiction is contributing to many of the high cost of health care coverage.

I’m sure people will give him a pass though.

Sure, I will give him a pass! He is not yet Rumsfeld wrinkled, nor does his heart have to Cheney up his spine every morning before he gets out of bed. I don’t forsee his fingers developing that sickly sort of smokey brown while he is serving his two terms of office. And if smoking is his worst offense I think we will be well off as a nation!I was fairly fond of the last president who smoked. (But I really didn’t approve of where he put his cigars!)

Clinton was fond of Big Macs (and the aforementioned cigar) that didn’t stop anyone from voting for him…

Clinton won both the ‘92 and ‘96 presidential elections with less than 50% of the vote. I’d say plenty of people found reasons not to vote for him.

My prediction – laugh now but… – Obama will burn up in the spot light before he has a chance to run. Too many high beams in his direction. Something will burn him up.

Hillary’s camp leaked that he was in some sort of Islamic school coming up. That alone will put many under informed folks off of him.

His own party is heel biting. Give him time, he will burn up.

Also; Edward’s mouth will sink him. He will pop off something Gore’esk and be dropped. Hillary’s move to the center will fool few. She has been too radically Left to try to pretend now.

“I’d say plenty of people found reasons not to vote for him.”

But did they not vote for him because of the Big Macs or the smoking? That was my point. There are many reasons that he shouldn’t have gotten votes, but those don’t pertain to this thread.

Oh? I have heard that many times from the “right” but never from anyone connected to Hillary.

One more point about smoking addiction. It is a sign of weakness.

Sorry, Joe, your link looks like a far-right smear attempt. Given that the website proclaims their “conservative” bona fides, I would think that they have an agenda.

The far-right smear campaign began with Ed Rogers, Rebublican consultant, referring to Obama as Barack Hussein Obama, with emphasis on the “Hussein,” as if Obama was related to Saddam Hussein.

The far-right has already began to smear a good man, if for no other reason than he “might” be a candidate for president in the future.

It will not work – America is tired of the Rovian Smear Machine.

Barack Obama will be elected President of the United States in November 2008.

WSClark! It said it was Hillary Clinton’s team that was investigating his past.

Barack main opposition isn’t the Republicans. It’s Hillary Clinton, and you should know that.

A conservative, far right website SAID that Hillary Clinton’s team SAID……

    Big difference, Joe.

After re-reading that article I didn’t see an ounce of smear or bias. Just the facts.

Another fact: Smoking is a personal weakness.

Fleet and Joe, the only place you will find this so-called “Hillary’s team has questions about Obama’s Muslim background” story is on far right sites like Insight, Free Republic, the Hillary Project, Blogs Against Hillary, etc.

Even a poor, dumb liberal like me can see that this story is made up.

The only ones making an issue of Obama’s name or Muslim father are the Right Wing Kool Aide Drinker’s Society.

If you want to discuss the issue of Obama’s qualifications to be president, then go right (?) ahead, but his name or his father’s religion should not enter into the equation.

    OK! Fine! Discredit the article.

But remember! Anything you post from Democrat Undergound, Daily Kos, CBS News and other liberal sources and blogs will also be considered untrue and discredited.

    Fair?
