Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will present her agenda Wednesday night in her State of the State address. But new House Speaker Melvin Neufeld, R-Ingalls, has already announced the top priority of House Republicans: fiscal responsibility. One goal is to set aside some of the current revenue surplus to pay for the state’s three-year school funding plan. The House Republicans also want to eliminate the state’s corporate franchise tax. “It’s pretty clear to me that we have to do things to get more business growth,” Neufeld told the Topeka Capital-Journal. “It will be very simple. It’s called repeal.”

I’m all for eliminating the franchise tax.I remember one time–now some 20 years ago–I had to pay an accountant $1500 to convince the Secretary of State’s office I owed them 10 bucks.
To mc:Maybe you should change your screen name to mrdumbass.
mr c-Tell me you didn’t really do that.
“Revenue Surplus”?I thought everything was going to hell.
Hotwood–Under the Democratic governor, everything is not going to hell.
Under the Republican president, everything is going to hell.
Sigh. Even though Melvin is my friend, I have to disagree.
One more time with feeling…
Businesses rarely if EVER make location or expansion decisions based on taxes. Especially a little one like the franchise tax.
I know the cons will disagree.
Why is it that anytime a little POTENTIAL black ink appears in any public sector budget, the cons want to cut taxes?
Ever hear of “pay as you go”? Or “paying down debt created by insane republicans”?
Apparantly not. Must be a liberal construct.
I just love how the cons spend like drunken republicans and then bitch when the grown-up Democrats have to raise taxes to pay the bill.
Yes, I had to do that.My attorney fouled up my Sub S paperwork, so the beancounter in the Secretary of State’s office thought I was trying to hide something.
