Brownback’s yellow brick road will be bumpy

Too often, Kansas doesn’t appreciate the upside of the fame of "The Wizard of Oz" — in the public’s mind, Kansas will always be the "home" in "There’s no place like home." Still, it was hard not to cringe at Sen. Sam Brownback’s tired "Oz" allusion in his presidential campaign kickoff remarks Saturday: "My family and I are taking the first steps on the yellow brick road to the White House. It’s a great journey." That turned out to be the sound bite of the event for the national media. Given his place in the polls, Brownback can expect a bumpy ride.

Yellow Brick Road makes sense. After all, the current wizard in the White House is definitely a charlatan!

I guess the only questions remaining are 1) who is the brainless scarecrow, 2) who is the heartless tin man 3) who is the cowardly lion that will be skipping down this yellow brick road with Brownback?

Only time will tell what Brownbacks’ presidential run will bring. Who is his campaign manager – does anyone know?

He may not have a chance, however, one thing is for sure. Sam would make a much better president than Hilbil. Hell, I’d rather vote for McCain than that opportunistic *****, ah, witch.

Brownback will fall out of the race by the end of the summer. He is too far to the right and most Americans want to move away from that spectrum of politics.

Did anyone watch his speech? His family and their pose and presentation seemed like he was conceding a loss.I am weird, so please indulge me. I have this long lasting and rarely unproven impression of the outright bible thumping Christians and that is that they are uptight and unhappy. When I say unhappy, I mean that they seem to constantly be telling themselves and others how happy they are with God, etc. But what I usually see is an odd unapproachable side, and a side to them that makes them alien to the masses, including Quiet Christians.I guess I am really tired of people telling whomever they can that they are Christian and they are somehow better than the rest. Exactly what culture is Brownback trying to improve?

Sammy scares me — I’m hoping he’ll draw a couple percentage points in the first couple of primaries, see the writing on the wall, and get out of the race before he damages a legitimate candidate.

If Brownback doesn’t get the nomination he should go the way of Lieberman and start his own party. The gay haters party would be appropriate since it embellishes the key issue in fundamentalist Christianity today.

Few people know this but Sam Brownback played the role of Scarecrow in the Broadway musical “The Wiz.”

    “If he only had a brain . . . ”

He should be more concerned about defending his seat.

Look what happened to Ryun. Voters weren’t buying.

Sam squeeked by with only 69% of the vote in 2004. I’d be willing to bet heavily that he’ll have no trouble keeping his seat in 2010 if he runs.

And nothing has changed since 2004.

    What a maroon . . .
