I’m much more interested in Time magazine’s photos of the year than its Person of the Year — especially with this year’s lame pick. Here’s a link its 2006 year in photos.

That volcano picture was super sweet! I would love that as my desktop wallpaper.
Also I’m going to forward the Time link to a person I know that is going to photojournalism school. :)
Thanks for sharing!
Unlike almost all the other photos, Joe, the volcano photo does the best job of showing how temporary and transitory is our time on this planet. The next best photo to illustrate the same message is the photo of the charred outlines of the human body after being incinerated. It illustrates so much more also, like the extreme degree of hatred and violence that occurred in order to produce this image in this place so far from the comfort of our homes on this special morning.
As I become older and camera’s easier to use I still appreciate how hard it is to get a good photo. These Time photos are among the best. I picked the two little girls who were frightened. I want to hug all of the little children and tell them it will be okay. I’m just a softie grandfather I suppose.
My favorite was towards the end, with the U.S. soldier sitting on the chair. I wonder what he was thinking. Very thoughtful photo.
Just think how many photos wouldn’t have been if we had more peace in the world.
