Status of blog, meet-up

Some bloggers asked in an earlier thread what WE Blog’s traffic volume is now, and whether we could have another meet-up. In November, our page views were 180,218. I believe the last number I reported was 161,127 in September. As for another meet-up, we’ve been looking at possibly doing one in January. If so, should we host it again at The Eagle building?

Sounds good if we can impose on Farmgrrl to cater the event. I’m sure we’d all be glad to pay her handsomely for her fine cuisine!

I have not been to a meet up since the first one that Hank Price so graciously hosted. I would ask, if possible that it happen on a week day evening – which might help get some folks there who otherwise couldn’t make it.

It would be interesting if those of the conservative bent, who have so many “wise” things to say about the editorial staff of the Eagle will have the guts to show up. Take that as a challenge, girls (as KFG would say, sorry didn’t mean to insult the girls).

    Sigh!

Steven in the last meet-up quite a few of showed up, even me.

It’s blantently pathedic to mention the notion that people who lean right have no guts. We were there in full force, although we know we are outnumbered by a sizable ratio. We can all get along. It was a great time.

    Meetup, eh?

Is it going to be like that episode of “The Simpsons,” where what started out as a moderated, family group therapy session devolved into a stimulus/response, shock-therapy free-for-all? If so, I’m in.

    Depending on scheduling, of course.

i made it to the first one – hosted by Hank Price – but the others have all been schedule conflicts. I like the idea for reasons I have said before – connect a face to a name and also humanize each other. Makes discussions more civil in my opinion.

I’m sure Nathan cannot be there but maybe hank can the “the boy” ;^) on a lonk for us.

As for pizza – that would probably be my last choice these days. Far too much of it when working extended hours. But that pork roast sure sounds good …

  23. Posted December 11, 2006 at 11:14 am | Permalink

I would enjoy the opportunity to meet the people I “read.” Maybe if I was able to put faces to names I wouldn’t feel as hesitant about joining in and would feel more comfortable voicing my opinions. You regulars say it much better than I think I can, so mostly I read. I’m sure “real time” back and forth conversation would be really interesting.

  41. Posted December 11, 2006 at 4:11 pm | Permalink

If we want to make this a ‘covered dish’ we might want to have it at a place other than the Eagle.

The last one was kinda an after dinner meeting with snacks and sodas (no pizza to keep the ones amongst us with principles).

The Eagle really isn’t set up for a pork-roast-tater-salad-hash-brown-casserole-bbq-ribs sort of function.

Or maybe we can have another covered dish blow-out later when the weather is nicer and have a January meetup still at the eagle.

There is a dining area at the Eagle. At least there was a few years ago when I toured there with a cub scout group. It reminded me of the dining area of a Wichita plant that I worked at between high school and college – many years ago.

I think we should eat somewhere else, if we want to, and follow the lead of the WE staff on how they would like to do this deal.

I will make every effort to get there whatever the day. And, as Joe remarks way up thread, my one experience was that it was a pleasant time with good conversations regardless of political leanings.

I would still have to say that the one conservative poster, I’d most like to meet is Heckler. I am sure I would be interested in listening to he and Ben’s take on various technological topics.

    PMom:It is Munch’s birthday.

    Munch, Edvard

That particular painting was stolen in Norway last summer – it was returned not long ago. The government wouldn’t say if they paid someone to get it back. They most likely did.

To try to establish a time/place, I will suggest:

Wednesday evening, January 3rd, OR Monday evening, January 8th,

    At 6:30 or 7 PM,

At Wichita EAGLE’s meeting room, same as 3rd meetup.

Bring some cookies, tid bits, etc.

Afterward, for those who want to — walk over to Old Town in the snow!

THIS IS ONLY A SUGGESTION TO TRY TO GET SOME SPECIFIC COMMENTS.

January will be tough for me, especially the 3rd. February and March not a whole lot better, but what ever you guys come up with I’ll try to make it.

I had a good time with the first one, Mary helped a lot setting it up. Everybody brought a dish and even though it was windy and chilly we had a good time.

I’ll host another one at our clubhouse next year when Nathan comes home. Steaks and a keg come to mind! Someone bring chips!

I may show up. Frankly, I tend to have other things that need to be done.

Got this idea from an event CF and Capn had that I attended.

The Wichita Public Library welcomes the use of its meeting room facilities for civic, educational and public information meetings of interest to the citizens of Wichita. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis and should be made in advance so an agreement can be mailed, signed and returned with payment before the meeting. For room rental and more information, please call the specific Library.LibraryCapacityPriceCentralAuditorium – 3rd floor150 chairs theater style or48 chairs with tables$25.00CentralPatio Room – 1st floor40 chairs theater style or24 chairs with tables$15.00CentralBoard Room – 3rd floor20 chairs arounda large table$10.00

Oh and refreshments are allowed as long as things are cleaned up after.

    Groan.

CF and Capn served coffee. My kid had 2 cups.

    Never ever ever again!

“I thought the first one was a Thursday early evening. I know the second one was a Saturday.”

The above was my recollection, too. I don’t know what day 3 & 4 were held. But other than that, you have to be impressed by popup!s historical accuracy. Makes me wonder who that really is?

The rates on the library rooms seem pretty reasonable and certainly a cost that could be easily shared … you know in a collectivist sense. But, if those of free-market persuasion want to show the superiority of their method, I will step back and watch.

“But, if those of free-market persuasion want to show the superiority of their method…”

Wait a minute, wouldn’t that be anti-progressive sharing of costs – those making the least pay the greatest percentage and the converse situation with those making the most? I had better rethink that recommendation.

Steven,We could always pass around the collection plate until there’s enough in it :)or we could laude and praise those who would just pay for it and not expect reimbursement – you know the big time hotshots that own their own company

I think Julie is good looking. I’m sure her husband does too numbnuts. Why don’t you ask him?

heh heh heh hehWhat you are pre-supposing golf, is that anyone actually wants to meet YOU.

My take is you and fleetwood table for 2.

The library was an idea for an indoor family friendly venue. It’s just an idea.

At the second meetup, the cost for shelter was $30. The bloggers pitched in very nicely.Still waiting for some editor ideas. I know Dave is watching. : )

My reason for suggesting we again meet at the Wichita EAGLE’s upstairs meeting room is the editors are more likely to attend particularly if it is early enough (6:30 PM or so). Also close to Old Town for any who want to continue afterward.
