Some bloggers asked in an earlier thread what WE Blog’s traffic volume is now, and whether we could have another meet-up. In November, our page views were 180,218. I believe the last number I reported was 161,127 in September. As for another meet-up, we’ve been looking at possibly doing one in January. If so, should we host it again at The Eagle building?

Sounds good if we can impose on Farmgrrl to cater the event. I’m sure we’d all be glad to pay her handsomely for her fine cuisine!
The EAGLE building would be fine with me. Sounds like we have some issues to discuss.
A date and time and I’ll try to make it. :)
It was informative and cool last time.
I have not been to a meet up since the first one that Hank Price so graciously hosted. I would ask, if possible that it happen on a week day evening – which might help get some folks there who otherwise couldn’t make it.
It would be interesting if those of the conservative bent, who have so many “wise” things to say about the editorial staff of the Eagle will have the guts to show up. Take that as a challenge, girls (as KFG would say, sorry didn’t mean to insult the girls).
Sigh!
Steven in the last meet-up quite a few of showed up, even me.
It’s blantently pathedic to mention the notion that people who lean right have no guts. We were there in full force, although we know we are outnumbered by a sizable ratio. We can all get along. It was a great time.
Meetup, eh?
Is it going to be like that episode of “The Simpsons,” where what started out as a moderated, family group therapy session devolved into a stimulus/response, shock-therapy free-for-all? If so, I’m in.
Depending on scheduling, of course.
heheheheheheh Thanks Jed.
I’m always up for bringing the potato salad and fried chicken.
And a shrimp taco or two for Steven Davis….
hee hee hee hee hee hee
I missed the last meet-up at the Eagle, so I’ll move heaven and earth to make this latest proposed one.
…but I promise to leave the polonium at home…..
Dear Steven,
I heartily accept your challenge! I do believe that it is the liberals that need to be better represented though. (a name caller that didn’t come last time because there was no pizza comes to mind)
Hank
Gee Hank,
Who could you be talking about?I’ll bet he’s there this time. I would venture to guess that not even a cheese plate or more cheesy posts from a new “right”-minded poster could keep the unnamed person away.
Thanks for the food offerings, KFG. As you know, I am unworthy…
Is this only for the older members of the group?
I will try to make it. May even bring blogbaby (she’s getting so big).maybe we can coordinate the meetup with the John Prine concert. Still thinkin’ of ya KFG. :)
I meant older by been here longer lol.
PeeMom -Come on and join us!!!
I’m in if KFG is bringing the potato salad.KFG- is it legal to bring potato salad across county lines? I’m thinking of our soon-to-depart AG; maybe this could be his grand finale bust! Hmmmmmm..
heheheheh gster and Julie!
I will be chefing on the prairie the night of the Prine concert. :(
But I highly recommend that all of you attend if possible. It will be an evening of entertainment to make you laugh and touch your heart.
Kinda like my place. The wait staff make you laugh and the food touches your heart with butter and cream……
And did I mention the pork roast we had yesterday?
heheheheheheheh
Cant wait to see the blog baby!
Ok ya’ll are going to have to fill me in on what the blog baby is.
i made it to the first one – hosted by Hank Price – but the others have all been schedule conflicts. I like the idea for reasons I have said before – connect a face to a name and also humanize each other. Makes discussions more civil in my opinion.
I’m sure Nathan cannot be there but maybe hank can the “the boy” ;^) on a lonk for us.
As for pizza – that would probably be my last choice these days. Far too much of it when working extended hours. But that pork roast sure sounds good …
Agree with Steven – weekday evening …
I’m all for it. I’d show up wearing my Rush tie and Hannity sweater and drink coffee out of my “No Spin Zone” mug.
peemom,I started blogging here while I was pregnant with my youngest darling daughter. The resulting child is referred to as ‘blogbaby’. I’ve been so busy with 3 kids and work that nobody on the blog has seen the baby in person (some have received photos) even though requests have been made.
As a relative new-comer, I would appreciate the opportunity to meet others. For me, the Eagle building works; weekday night probably best, although weekends are available!
I would enjoy the opportunity to meet the people I “read.” Maybe if I was able to put faces to names I wouldn’t feel as hesitant about joining in and would feel more comfortable voicing my opinions. You regulars say it much better than I think I can, so mostly I read. I’m sure “real time” back and forth conversation would be really interesting.
I will be with you in spirit
I’ve been hesitant to attend before, but I’ll make every attempt to be there if another is held. Like others, a weeknight evening probably works best.
If food is expected, how ’bout venison chili?
Wednesday nights are best for me… preferably later in the month… I’d hate to have to postpone the wedding again :)
Huh. Hadn’t thought about food. I brought a bunch of coffee last time and got everybody wired.
I know I’m a half-Jew and all, but what comes to mind is ribs. Pork, that is. It’ll give me an excuse to spend all day on the porch.
gster,”…is it legal to bring potato salad across county lines?”Farm Gal’s might not; I know for a fact that it’s addictive!
I’m there. I’ll bring the crow pie for you all to eat.
I would love to meet you Linda! Do we wear name tags?
Funny about the blog baby.
Note to self, don’t eat the chili.
Oh and I’ll need someone to keep Golftesticles out of my face.
It would definitely be nice to have more females attend the meet-ups. So far, it’s been Mary, Julie, KFG, Tara (who I missed meeting), and me. We need more estrogen there to offset all the testosterone. *grin*
I will add that it was nice to have KFG’s partner, Julie’s mom-in-law, writerdog’s wife, and a few other family members there sometimes. I know I’m forgetting someone.
Jed- with all due respect- I’m going to have to try the salad and decide for myself.Besides, I have room for maybe one more addiction!
Maybe she also has a recipe for green brownies.
KFG???
Nah, I’m very careful where I put my genitalia.
If testicles stalks me on here, imagine what he’ll do if he sees me.
Might drive the hour to Wichita- then catch a cab over to the party.
I’ll bring a meat tray if someone wants to bring cheese, bread & mayo.

Likely: laugh.
OH wait, CF were you planning to bring ribs? Or were you just saying you’d like ribs?
KFG,
What restaurant do you run? I want to try that pork roast!
May I humbly suggest the following: With all the holiday festivities going on all the way from now through the Super Bowl, and the weather in KS in February, and the fact that we’re scattered from “hell to breakfast”, that scheduling this in March or April might be a good idea?
nm- i have a phenominal hash brown casserole i’ll bring.
goes awesome with bbq or roast
If we want to make this a ‘covered dish’ we might want to have it at a place other than the Eagle.
The last one was kinda an after dinner meeting with snacks and sodas (no pizza to keep the ones amongst us with principles).
The Eagle really isn’t set up for a pork-roast-tater-salad-hash-brown-casserole-bbq-ribs sort of function.
Or maybe we can have another covered dish blow-out later when the weather is nicer and have a January meetup still at the eagle.
Hank
I second Hank’s motion.
Pizza is against Hank’s religion?
Whatever, I don’t know the set up of the place. I’ll just come whenever.
Phil?
“If so, should we host it again at The Eagle building?”
Did you have any other ideas in mind? It would be interesting to hear them. We’ve weighed in. Now let’s hear from you.
What’s wrong with Old Town or Hero’s bar & grill?
Fleetwood,Some of us may bring children (JR probably will bring his son and I will bring at least my youngest) so a bar wouldn’t be the best idea. Besides we (as a blogging group) are volatile enough without alcohol :)
Fleet,Agreed. Why not make it informal, relaxed and where we can have a beer, if desired?
Although, we might need some kind of security. (ref: previously mentioned ’sharp stick’)
I’m thinking Safety Glasses.
Sedg County Park in one of the buildings (since likely cold)
If it’s at a bar, I won’t go. Not really an optimal place for a discussion group. Besides, I have very low tolerance for people who are intoxicated especially when THEY think they’re fine.
I have no trouble remaining non-intoxicated at a bar – or restaurant. Besides, it’s more casual.
Unless a local bar has some sort of meeting room I don’t think it would work. Players out west has some as I recall.
Why do we need a meeting room? Isn’t this a meet/greet/mingle kind of event?
Or…Am I to anticipate some kind of organized discussion?
I guess my thinking is a room where we can walk around, mingle, etc. Most of the bars tend to be sit-down places.
My guess is…
We’ll meet at the Eagle – say our hiyas – then invite the conservative men and the good-lookin’ women over to Heroes for drinks. =)
I could possibly attend with full regalia: Zoot Suit and matching Kimono/little umbrella thingy. Maybe a lobster bib, in case things get interesting.
Joe WIlliams<—- brought cookies and Fresca for the 2nd meetup!
He got to eat all his cookies and drink all his Fresca though……
He got frightened because some of the bloggers were bikers!
JM- That outfit might put you on the front page of the WE! In color, no less.
biker chicks?
;^)
Don’t forget your wife now golftesticles. Besides, what makes you think good looking women want anything to do with you anyway?
My guess is…

I wouldn’t be able to attend Golf so you’ll be the only one!
Sweet! All those good lookin’ women…and me. =)
I might allow some of the non-annoying democrat dudes to come along.
Mr Kia, you’re not coming to the meetup, or you’re not going with nut?
No Mom I’m an out of stater.
How about all the cons go to one bar and all the libs to another. Then we see which group all the good-looking women go with.
Odd comments from a married man.
Odder still that he imagines anyone wants to meet him.
1) Another thing on my presence – even as a “rich” republican I can’t fly to Wichita on a whim unfortunately ;-)
2) As far a good looking, uh the Bush girls versus say Hillary or Amy Carter? Nuff said ;-)
MrK – very well put. Don’t forget that beauty queen Chelsea.
Out of state? Where are you?
Angelina Jolie is a liberal.
:D
That last meant about golfnuts
California Golf.
Oh damn Mom. Touche’
LOL I’m sorry we won’t be seeing you Kia.
I’m gonna lose a WHOLE lot of respect for conservatives if women go hang out with a lone conservative married man at the bar.
Show of hands- what conservative woman wants to go to the bar with Testicles boy there?
That’s not fair mom, you have to count the liberal women who might want to go too (sarcasm)
Again: who’s stalking whom?
MrK – where in California? I have family all over CA, and I get out there frequently.
Central Valley, Bakersfield specifically
Ahh, I spent a week in Fresno about 15 years ago. In August. Had to wear a suit every day. It must’ve been 115.
But then, I had my then-girlfriend fly out for the weekend, and we drove over to Carmel. Oh man, that was special.
I have multiple family members in San Diego, a brother in Camarillo, an uncle in Davis.
There is a dining area at the Eagle. At least there was a few years ago when I toured there with a cub scout group. It reminded me of the dining area of a Wichita plant that I worked at between high school and college – many years ago.
I think we should eat somewhere else, if we want to, and follow the lead of the WE staff on how they would like to do this deal.
I will make every effort to get there whatever the day. And, as Joe remarks way up thread, my one experience was that it was a pleasant time with good conversations regardless of political leanings.
I would still have to say that the one conservative poster, I’d most like to meet is Heckler. I am sure I would be interested in listening to he and Ben’s take on various technological topics.
I am glad to see the interest for this meeting.
Yes I had my honeymoon in Carmel after being married in DooDah (Wichita).
San Diego is beautiful.Carmillo is 90 minutes or so from here.
Born and raised in Venice, CA, when Marina Del Rey was still bologna creek. When Hopalong Cassidy land was still on Washington. When pacific ocean park (POP) was still open and THE place to meet chicks. Back when the canals were garbage infested stagnant cess-pools. But, damn, Venice had the best beach in california . . . and still does.
From a movie
“Boy LA sure has changed; the air got dirty and the sex got clean.”
Lived in San Diego for twenty years and played Torrey Pines for $11 a round on the city card. Beat that glfnts!!!
O ya, best round at Torry? 74 on the south; 72 on the north. And parred #12 south ONCE in I forget how many rounds. Birdied 18 south three times (lipped an eagle putt once). You don’t forget those holes . . . ever.
K. . . when was sex ever dirty?
JM,I played Torrey Pines the last time I was there for any kind of extended stay, August of ‘99. I think I paid $80. I shot 76 – North Course.
La Jolla is one heckuva fun place.
“Central Valley, Bakersfield specifically”
Holy cow, KIA, you’re farther from Doodah than me (Tucson). Though Honolulu Tara has us both beaten. . .
Popup! seems to have the historical details about the blog meetups down.
Ben Huie was at number 1, I don’t know if he was at any of the others.
Capn America has not been to any of them so far that I know of. I know in fact that he does exist. It would be good to see him at this meet up.
I would imagine someone will show up and pose as me, seeing as how I’m a troll’s favorite subject.
Walker – love to see ya in the zootsuit :)Steven – last time a meetup was held at the Eagle several small groups met and went to dinner. Hank, his lovely wife Joyce, Nathan, Mary Caruso, MountainMan and I met for dinner in old town before the meetup.
However I like the idea of eating together as a group be it potluck or catered. It supports a comraderie that expresses itself as a kinder, gentler blog after meetups.
You are correct Steven – schedule conflicts have blocked the others. Hank hosted the inaugural.
Yes, Julie. The wife and I ate in that German restaurant based on the review from you guys; the food was okay and it did seem to take a while to get out of there.
Check out google today, they honor Edvard Munch’s “The Scream.”
http://www.ibiblio.org/wm/paint/auth/munch/
I was looking to see if there was a universally accepted definition of the term “troll” – there doesn’t seem to be:

The last one is the most amusing, I think.
I saw that this morning and wondered why they chose today to put up that painting.
It was one we discussed in college.
“That’s not fair mom, you have to count the liberal women who might want to go too (sarcasm)”
*snort*
PMom:It is Munch’s birthday.
Munch, Edvard
(b. Dec. 12, 1863, Löten, Nor.–d. Jan. 23, 1944, Ekely, near Oslo
That particular painting was stolen in Norway last summer – it was returned not long ago. The government wouldn’t say if they paid someone to get it back. They most likely did.
Phil?
Randy?
Dave?
Rich?
Rhonda?
We’re all still waiting for some further input from you all on this shindig.
You’ve seen some of our ideas. What say you?
(cue Jeapordy music)
I say;THE BUTLER.IN THE LIBRARY.WITH THE CANDLESTICK.
The Village Idiot (JR)In the Newspaper OfficeWith a Sharp Stick
Count me in…anyplace, anytime!
I’d like to meet you Mary.
To try to establish a time/place, I will suggest:
Wednesday evening, January 3rd, OR Monday evening, January 8th,
At 6:30 or 7 PM,
At Wichita EAGLE’s meeting room, same as 3rd meetup.
Bring some cookies, tid bits, etc.
Afterward, for those who want to — walk over to Old Town in the snow!
THIS IS ONLY A SUGGESTION TO TRY TO GET SOME SPECIFIC COMMENTS.
Wednesday’s don’t work for me but I may show up late if a Wednesday is decided upon.
Of the 4 meetups, three have been on a Wednesday evening.
January will be tough for me, especially the 3rd. February and March not a whole lot better, but what ever you guys come up with I’ll try to make it.
I had a good time with the first one, Mary helped a lot setting it up. Everybody brought a dish and even though it was windy and chilly we had a good time.
I’ll host another one at our clubhouse next year when Nathan comes home. Steaks and a keg come to mind! Someone bring chips!
Hank
I thought the first one was a Thursday early evening. I know the second one was a Saturday.
I may show up. Frankly, I tend to have other things that need to be done.
Such is the life of an individualist.
Motive?
Fighting over the last piece of pizza.
Hank
Got this idea from an event CF and Capn had that I attended.
The Wichita Public Library welcomes the use of its meeting room facilities for civic, educational and public information meetings of interest to the citizens of Wichita. Reservations are made on a first-come, first-served basis and should be made in advance so an agreement can be mailed, signed and returned with payment before the meeting. For room rental and more information, please call the specific Library.LibraryCapacityPriceCentralAuditorium – 3rd floor150 chairs theater style or48 chairs with tables$25.00CentralPatio Room – 1st floor40 chairs theater style or24 chairs with tables$15.00CentralBoard Room – 3rd floor20 chairs arounda large table$10.00
Oh and refreshments are allowed as long as things are cleaned up after.
Groan.
CF and Capn served coffee. My kid had 2 cups.
Never ever ever again!
“I thought the first one was a Thursday early evening. I know the second one was a Saturday.”
The above was my recollection, too. I don’t know what day 3 & 4 were held. But other than that, you have to be impressed by popup!s historical accuracy. Makes me wonder who that really is?
I’ll be there…but I’m bringin’ my sharp stick.
The rates on the library rooms seem pretty reasonable and certainly a cost that could be easily shared … you know in a collectivist sense. But, if those of free-market persuasion want to show the superiority of their method, I will step back and watch.
“But, if those of free-market persuasion want to show the superiority of their method…”
Wait a minute, wouldn’t that be anti-progressive sharing of costs – those making the least pay the greatest percentage and the converse situation with those making the most? I had better rethink that recommendation.
Steven,We could always pass around the collection plate until there’s enough in it :)or we could laude and praise those who would just pay for it and not expect reimbursement – you know the big time hotshots that own their own company
Speaking of Senator Johnson, I could bring the vegatables.
$25? For a room at the library? I’d rather pick up the tab at Heroes and do it there.
Julie – you’re invited, too.
Wait, are you good lookin?
My previous post wasn’t funny. What I meant to say was, God Speed for his recovery.
I think Julie is good looking. I’m sure her husband does too numbnuts. Why don’t you ask him?
heh heh heh hehWhat you are pre-supposing golf, is that anyone actually wants to meet YOU.
My take is you and fleetwood table for 2.
The library was an idea for an indoor family friendly venue. It’s just an idea.
At the second meetup, the cost for shelter was $30. The bloggers pitched in very nicely.Still waiting for some editor ideas. I know Dave is watching. : )
My reason for suggesting we again meet at the Wichita EAGLE’s upstairs meeting room is the editors are more likely to attend particularly if it is early enough (6:30 PM or so). Also close to Old Town for any who want to continue afterward.
Freudian slip fleettwood?
I was kidding. That was funny. I’ll be here all week. Thank you for coming!Next up- Christopher Reeve jokes.
Julie’s husband can come, too. If she’s good lookin’, I’ll wanna shake his hand and tell him how lucky he is.
I don’t wanna ask her out on a date; Heck, I’m married, too. But there’s nothing wrong with appreciating beauty, is there?
HeHeHe… This is going to be good!
“GolfNut, Fleettwood, table for two. You are in the front row because you are right thinking Americans. You will be served by Democrats who may spit or cry in your food, so I would suggest drinking bottled beer”
Front row! Sweet! Keeps me closer to the microphone. In fact, maybe we should karaoke; I’d make up some new words to Margaritaville just for our lib friends. =)
KSGolfnut,
Her husband would make big foot think twice about trying anything.
He is a really great guy, but I would be on my best behavior otherwise he could put a hurt on ya!
I’m always on my best behavior, Nathan, and thanks for the advice.
Heck, maybe I already know him.
JR and Gster – sounds like you guys are looking forward to seeing MountainMan again. I’ll pass on the note that his presence is requested.
Golfnut – Remember that true beauty is more than skin deep. Watch Shallow Hal sometime.
