Listen up, people: The swearing in ceremony for congress consists ONLY of the members raising their right hands and reciting the oath. Neither the bible nor any other religious text is or ever has been used for an official purpose as part of the swearing in ceremony.

KSGoofNut is right. They didn’t die for oil. They died to protect the United States from a “grave and gathering threat” of Weapons of Mass Destruction.

No, wait. They died to bring freedom and democracy to Iraq.

Uhhh, scratch that. They died to remove Saddam Hussein so that the Iraq people could live . . .

    Okay, it was the oil.

Oh you must mean people like Micheal Moore who was found to have Halliburton stock in his portfolio.

OH MAC and cheese, you are so stupid. Rush’s talking memo on that issue has long been debunked. Time to listen to oxy rush again and get your new marching orders

Anybody who’s got a couple of mutual funds probably has stocks he/she wishes weren’t in there.

Most funds hold many dozens of stocks and they buy and sell them all the time. It’s almost impossible unless you’re a fanatic to keep track of what’s actually in “your portfolio” at any one time.

Total cheap shot at Michael Moore, and not very interesting either, is it?

Also, you might not want to open the can of worms on “personal responsibility” given that drug-using Rush, libel-monger Coulter, pedophile Mark Foley, pedophile enabler Dennis Hastert, scam artist Jack Abramoff, and gay hating gay evangalists are all on your side.

People who have investments should know where their money is going to, unless they don’t care that much. Kind of like Sam Brownback and his investments in the China oil company. I read where he wants to get rid of that investment. My question is – why did he even invest in China Oil Company in the first place?

Why isn’t he investing in an American Oil Company willing to research alternative fuel? That would go a long way in getting our necks off the chopping block in the Middle East.

Has anyone else heard about Lawrence, KS, considering civil unions for gays?

A former Kansan who now resides in D.C. mentioned it to me in chat last night. She said it was in the Hutch paper.

A: there are skidmarks in front of the dead dog!

    No link here.

But it seems that Gerald Ford ALSO thought that bush was in error in invading Iraq.

Bob Woodward reports that Ford disagreed with the war and bush’s rationale for it. Bue he made Woodward swear to silence until after Ford was dead.

I see the Denver airport is closing again in anticipation of a huge storm arriving tomorrow, with up to 18 inches of snow this time.

The intent is to prevent the stranding of thousands of fliers again.

Of course, there are people on this blog that will refer to their pre-emptive action as “stupid”.

raptor was that another dig at me?

    Ok I’ll bite.

Stupid? Building a major air hub in a region known for heavy snow. THAT was stupid.

With our central location and GENERALLY mild weather? Where the hell was Wichita 30 years ago when WE should have been building a major air hub?

Oh yeah, we busy were arguing about building Century 2 and the big ditch!

This LJWorld article says they are considering domestic partnerships for gays/lesbians in Lawrence:

    http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2006/dec/22/domestic_partner_registery_considered/

I like the LJ World also, but I am troubled by the fact that they have nearly a monopoly on news communication in Lawrence. They own a cable company and internet services in town.

NPR some time back did a story on them:

Steven Davis, it is troubling, but balanced somewhat by the local reporters for the Topeka Capitol and the Kansas City Star. Add to that the local cable carries the Topeka and KC stations, reporters for which seem to find their way to Lawrence on a regular basis, and it isn’t quite as bad as it might appear on first blush.

Clarification: reporters in addition to the “sports reporters” who seem to live in Lawrence.

I wouldn’t say Gerald Ford was a great president but I do not think he did any real damage to the country. He was an honest man and I think he really cared about doing what was morally right. Even though I did not agree with him about the pardon for Nixon, I can see how he reasoned that it was best to get the whole thing behind the country. And, in looking back at the craziness of the Clinton impeachment, I can see even more now that Ford was right in his assessment.

It’s been a long time since we have had a president that was not either totally hated or totally loved. We need to get back to some civility in politics. This two-camp nonsense is tearing the country apart.
