It turns out that syndicated co-columnists Steve and Cokie Roberts recently overstated Democratic Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ red-state attributes. In noting she fits the criteria that the Democrats need in a 2008 presidential pick, they characterized Sebelius as “gun-owning.” Spokeswoman Nicole Corcoran told Harris News Service: “Our guess is that they assumed she was a gun owner because she’s bagged a couple turkeys” — in the governor’s annual turkey hunt in El Dorado. But for that event, Corcoran said, Sebelius borrows a gun from Mike Hayden, the former governor who serves as her secretary of wildlife and parks.

Where is the outrage?
;)
Guess we’re supposed to believe everything that the liberal media prints without question.
How many other things were overstated?
Borrowed gun or not, she is still slaughtering defenseless animals.Cruel, barbaric. They have a right to life, and a right to be here.
Hell, at least she didn’t shoot a lawyer . . . wait a minute: isn’t shooting lawyers a good thing, at least in Texas?
By the way, turkeys are the dumbest animal out there, so they’re probably republicans anyway. No great loss.
Sanford, you are so full of crap. They have a right to be shot, then stabbed, then cooked, then hung.
You are making value judgements based on criteria that you have borntied. Not fair. How would you feel?
The rest of the story be known, she didn’t shoot the turkey either.
It was just another photo-op, folks, like this governor and her tenure. Image is everything.
I’m not sure that was such a great photo op, seems like you would alienate lots of animal lovers and vegetarians.Did she eat the turkey? I would hope so, at least the poor thing wouldn’t have died in vain!
oh Rhonda
why was this so important? Your right wing is showing again and again
At least she didn’t shoot a man in the face and then wait 24 hours to report it because she had to sober up….unlike our pugnacious VP
Sanford:
When the mountain lion, or wolf, or coyote, etc. slaughters that turkey, or deer, or rabbit, etc., should it feel guilty too?
Not as long as they eat what they kill.
Two unabashed, fluffy, right wing shill threads for you today Rhonda.
Now I know the weather is mild, but you are gonna catch a cold from exposure!
Look! Even the other shills here can’t keep this thread moving.
Somebody drag out Rhonda’s couch. She needs a rest.
Don’t worry, Rhonda. To JR, “shill” means “disagrees with me.”
“Borrowed gun or not, she is still slaughtering defenseless animals.”
What a stupid statement. Wild animals have excellent, and varied defenses.
The ability to see, smell, run fast, and fly away are great defenses against many threats.
So Sebelius is just out getting a photo-op? Is that the pot calling the kettle black? Bush has had many photo-ops that he has manipulated in his 6 years. That’s what politicians do best.
No DO worry Rhonda!
GMC likes you!
Good maybe for me. If there ever is another meetup, maybe he will follow YOU around and leave me alone!
I’m from the ElDorado area originally. The Governors one shot turkey hunt was started in the 80’s while Hayden was Governor. It was a canned hunt from the beginning. It was a chance for some good ole “boys” to get together and have some fun. They would invite a celebrity like an athelete or such to join in. Hayden never dreamed that Kansas would have a women Governor, let alone that one would defeat him. Joan Finney who had never hunted or owned a gun was obliged to attend the hunt anyway or risk alienating the people in Butler County. As I recall, she got into some trouble for accepting an expensive over and under as a gift. She also failed to get a hunting license which was pretty embarrassing.
Sebelius, like (girly man) Graves before her is stuck doing it for political reasons. They should just drop the pretense of calling it a hunt and call it what it really is. A photo op.
JR, your verbal trashing of Rhonda strikes me as rather infantile. She posted a thread, saying what was basically written by someone else, and you slam her for it.
Right-wing shill threads? What, you only agree with left-wing shill threads? Get out more. See the world; go to disneyland; watch old bob hope movies; eat more spinach; moon your neighbors; have sex with a sheep; build a perpetual-motion machine . . . or don’t. The point is there is more to life than politics.
She shot a damn turkey! So what! She did it with a borrowed gun! So what! Do we have to have a politically correct argument about every photo op she, and all other politicians, have?
So we are all steriotyped? Republicans hunt; Democrats don’t. Is that what we are supposed to do and believe? JR was right. It was not a hunt; it was a phot op. Let’s not take this too sereiously!
This is so stupid it isn’t even worth arguing about. Why did anyone waste their time on this tripe?
This is stupid. It was expected of her and she did it. She could have wussed out, I wouldn’t have done it. I’d have declared that I’d attend and watch someone else shoot it…giving governors everywhere the opportunity to opt out of this stupid event. Hayden loved it, good for him. But it shouldn’t be expected of all governors.
And turkeys are really dumb animals. I don’t even think they’re challenging to real hunters.
political mom
Obviously, you’ve never hunted turkeys, or know anyone who has.
