Is ‘Best of Opinion Line’ an oxymoron?

Brace yourself. It’s time again for our “Best and worst of Opinion Line” feature. The winners (or losers) include:
Is the man I saw urinating at the corner of Broadway and Waterman the other morning classifed as a street perfomer?
If a woman breast-feeds her baby while lunching at Hooters, would other patrons be offended?
In order to curb teen sex, all youths should be married immediately. It’s been my experience that once you’re married, all the sex ends anyway.
It would be nice to have my phone tapped. At least they would hear my needs. Nobody else listens.

Isn’t freedom of speech a wonderful thing – any person can make any statement they want and get it published. What a great country.

I hate the anonymous Opinion Line because it gives morons a platform for idiotic rhetoric. However, I can’t say I haven’t called in myself.

I have never called in either. I don’t typically read them also. Most are very negative and shallow. Just makes for a gigantic yawn fest.

Oh please, get over yourselves!! I think it’s a hoot! Some are really clever, others are so dumb they’re funny.

By the way, the standard of proof used to convict Sadam was ‘by a preponderance of the evidence, as opposed to ‘beyond a reasonable doubt. The Preponderance test is a lesser standard and almost anyone can be convicted by a mere ’scintilla’ of evidence shown.

When Bremer and the State dept sent lawyers to draft the criminal penal code to convict Sadam, the American lawyers at the State dept., made sure the preponderance of the evidence vs. beyond a reasonable doubt would be used. So I laugh at this Kangaroo court. I agree with JR. This case should have been forwarded to the Hague for an independent international court to try Sadam.

So even with Sadams’ defense that the 148 assailants tried to murder him, the burden of proof can be easily shifted ‘by a preponderance’ to find Sadam Guilty .

The execution is a ‘dog and pony’ show for the ignorant masses who lack an in-depth understanding how the penal code was implemented with the help of American neocon lawyers. So continue to drink Kool-laid.

The rest of the international community knows the kangaroo court was a joke.

If Saddam was executed for ordering the killings of 148 people, when will George Bush get his comeuppance for being directly responsible for the deaths of 100,000+? Where is the justice here?

Saddam was guilty. period. He turned the trial into a circus. He would have been convicted by either standard. His countrymen had every right to try the mass murderer who killed so many of them. But, I guess his atrocities never happened – just like the holocaust never happened – right? Wrong.

Why not have a place to vent? Isn’t that what freedom of speech is all about? Those of us who read and/or contribute to this have to have some forum so why not opinion line? It’s an entertaining start to each of my days and though I’ve never responded in print before now, I ALWAYS do so in my mind. There could certainly be worse ways to do so.
