We’re not above adding to the endless succession of year-end lists. At least the “Media’s Top 10 Economic Myths of 2006,” from the Virginia-based pro-free enterprise Business & Media Institute, provides some food for thought about the state of American business, and of American news reporting on business:
10. American manufacturing is obsolete.
9. The American dream has become a nightmare.
8. You can’t be trusted with a fork and spoon.
7. Wages are stagnant.
6. Global warming doom grows ever nearer.
5. Increasing the minimum wage will help the millions of poor workers.
4. The housing bubble has burst.
3. Bird flu is going to kill us all.
2. Gasoline is a conspiracy — going up or coming down!
1. The U.S. economy is hopeless — again.

Yeah…and Saddam had WMD and was a threat to the US too.
Wow! That list is the entire Democrat talking points and political platform.
Can’t wait until 2007.
Happy New Year!
Just ignore me. I’m a flipping dumb ass.
Joe Williams! Do you think that troll (5:17 AM) is a leftist?
Rhonda dear?
I told ya before to button up. Your right wing is STILL showing!
What did you give us here? A list of supposed myths. There is no refutation here or at the link you provide.
The link is to the same list!
That list links to a pro buisiness web site and their report on these so called myths. And that link is what?
The list again!
You don’t get to call something a myth without providing evidence.
10. True9. True8. False7. True (actually real wages are declining)6. False ( scientific opinion is like the weather in Kansas, wait a few minutes and it will change)5. True ( but not if done by itself)4. Truex103. False2. False1. Uber True (but that was the plan all along)
Viva la Raza Blanco!!
They can’t even get #6 correct: “Media myth: We have passed the “tipping point” on global warming. The U.S. had better pay up – and we don’t have much time.
The “tipping point” occurs when NATURAL positive feedbacks (less ice, methane from thawing permafrost, etc) make it impossible for humans to reverse the warming. We’ve lost control at that point, i.e. we’re out of time.
Rhonda, why not just quote Rush?
From their “about”: “The Business & Media Institute is a division of the Media Research Center.”http://www.sourcewatch.org/index.php?title=Media_Research_Center
Agreed, Cosmo, JR and Mom–
Some of these are definitely NOT myths.
Wage stagnation is absolutely true. Actually, it’s worse than that. Wages continue to lose ground against inflation. They peaked in 1970.
Households make more than in 1970 but only because two people work outside the home now instead of just one for the most part.
Even Bob Dole pointed this out when he ran for President.
Rhonda should compare her salary now with what she was making 15 years ago against inflation.
If she’s like most people, she’s making less in constant dollars.
Fortunately, I’m in a union and represented by a union so we’re at least keeping pace in my workplace.
The rest of you anti-union people get what you deserve: hit over the head by management.
Hang together or hang separately.
