Who made the biggest mark on 2006?

Before Time magazine announces its Person of the Year, it is passing along some past persons’ nominations. AIDS researcher David Ho (1996) made the provocative suggestion of a trio of “Peacebreakers of the Year”: North Korea’s Kim Jong Il, Iran’s Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and the United States’ George W. Bush. Former Enron vice president Sherron Watkins (among three honored whistle-blowers in 2002) nominated the “Illegal Immigrant.” CNN founder Ted Turner chose former Vice President Al Gore. Army medic Billie Grimes (2003, featured among honored U.S. troops) suggested the magazine pay tribute to fallen American service members. Last year, the winners were global do-gooders Bill and Melinda Gates and Bono (in photo).
Time’s online poll includes some of the above candidates, as well as Nancy Pelosi, Condoleezza Rice, Hugo Chavez and “the YouTube guys.” Who should be the Person of the Year? Who will be the Person of the Year?

I would go along with the “illegal immigrant” because they made the news more often and more consistently than any other news source.

Obviously not on a national level, but locally I saw that Rep.-Elect Raj Goyle made the biggested impact. He is now the stand out political leader in the Wichita area, aftering running an impressive campaign where he captured one of the most Republican districts in this area. He has a bright future in front of him. We’re lucky to have him and his fantastic wife Monica here!

How about the voting public? They certainly have made a big difference with the election results!

Since that day, The Shrub looks like he has gas! No, not that kind.. the other kind!

Speaking of gas — why is it that the price of oil has gone down, yet the cost of gas and home heating oil is going back up — seems like some sort of monopoly at work?

I join with gster; the voting public, for reminding us of the genius of our ancestors in providing a mechanism for a peaceful change of those who are the “government”.

I think the Bush rule should apply to the next presidential election:To be the president you have to demonstrate you are smarter than BOTH your car and any pets you own!

Person of the Year – The American Voters!

We proved to the world that democracy can work when voters turn out to support change.

It remains to be seen if Bush will recognize the intent of the voters, but now there is hope.

God (who ever she is) Bless America!

For those of you that may have missed yesterdays (open thread) multiple exchanges – Santiago totally wimped out on explaining his white nationalist attitudes and his overtly racist philosophies.

In actuality, it was a quite a hilarious exchange, especially after Mr. Santiago posted his MySpace profile.

Several posters, myself included, had to be treated for extreme laughter syndrome.

Mr. Santiago proved himself to be a coward, just like a playground bully that gets his tail kicked.

Mr. Santiago failed on multiple occasions to answer simple questions as to why he hates Jews, blacks, etc, and why he considers himself to be superior to individuals from those racial and ethnic groups.

The fact that Mr. Santiago considers himself to be superior to anyone is one of society’s great mysteries.

The challenge remians on the table for Mr. Santiago – explain yourself in your OWN words, no Google copy and paste, why you consider yourself to be superior to Jews, blacks, etc.

    We are still waiting……
