Watch how Johnson County replaces Morrison

Attorney General-elect Paul Morrison has officially resigned as Johnson County’s district attorney, meaning that county’s Republican Party has about three weeks to convene precinct leaders and elect a successor. The task falls to the GOP, because Morrison was elected district attorney as a Republican. Will the party give the job to defeated incumbent Attorney General Phill Kline over the three assistant district attorneys and one Lenexa lawyer who want it? The local party chairman “would not rule him out” last month, but some say Kline lacks the requisite experience.

This will be interesting to watch, from afar.

Agreed! Will be vary interesting turn of events. Would probably blow the tops off the radical left.

It would be such a yawn to see happen, but amusing none-the-less.

Yes Joe — I’ve always found self serving incompetence to be amusing too

“He doesn’t have the experience to be the Dist. Attorney.”

But he was just fine as State AG.

Republican hypocrisy — they don’t even bother to hide it anymore . . .

“Republican hypocrisy — they don’t even bother to hide it anymore . . .”

The electorate took 6 LONG YEARS to call them on it. Why should they change when it appeared that no one gave a damn.

Rhonda: You said Johnson County has about three weeks to convene Republican “precinct leaders” to elect a successor. Actually you should have said all “duly elected precinct committeemen and precinct committeewomen” will get to make the selection.

Just like here in Sedgwick County, all precinct people of the party and district of the outgoing political office holder would gather to elect a replacement. In Johnson County and here in Sedgwick County, there are roughly 150 precinct committeemen and 150 precinct committeewomen of each political party and they get to make those interim selections.

That’s one of the perks of being a political precinct committee person.

The idea is if a political office holder such as legislator, county commissioner, or in this case, the county prosecutor vacates his office for whatever reason before his term is up — to save the cost of a special election, the precinct people meet to fill the position for the remainder of the term.

I remember helping a friend of mine get elected as a Johnson County Commissioner that way. Was it his knowledge of county politics that got him the job? No, I think it was his attractive wife and month old baby that got him the votes that cold winter evening with few of us precinct people in attendance.

As far as whether Phill Kline will win, it all depends on presentations to the precinct people that evening and Phill is a pretty strong speaker in a small room.

    Rhonda,

why oh why do you always shill for Kline? Maybe you should go work for him???

Republicans have had a habit lately of putting the most unqualified people into positions. Bush wants a guy who opposes contraception to head an office about family planning, an anti-UN guy to be our UN rep, a horse judge to deal with natural disasters, and a guy obsessed about teenage sex to be a district attorney.

Doing a heckuva job as always.

Has Phillll even indicated that he wants the job?If so, it seems to be a step down.If not, the only point of this diatribe would be to slam Philll again. So, has Phillll even indicated that he wants the job?

Isn’t JOCO the most liberal county in Kansas?

I have a feeling Phill is going to have to keep looking for a job.

Mom: No, the most liberal county in Kansas is Douglas County.

Meadowlark is right. Despite the “democraticness increases as population increases” rule Johnson county is actually less liberal than its redheaded stepchild, Wyandotte County. Johnson County has all the rich people, Wyandotte has all the poor. And at the level of poverty and public assistance, no one is about to vote their checks away.

That said, Lawrence, KS (in Douglas County) is the #2 unfriendly town to the homeless. Seems that the transients destroy the glamourous image of their smoke free peace, love, and happiness. Lawrence sucks ass. I have been both places for protracted periods, and Manhattan is at least less f***ing pretentious. And you are allowed to DO things.

Er, before you think I’m a tool, I am aware that Manhattan is in Riley and Pottawatomie counties, not in JoCo. In my mind, the segue to college towns was made, but not in my post.

Thank God he’s leaving. Justice in Morrison’s book was a pliable concept, one didn’t necessarily have to be strongly associated with wrongdoing to attract the crazy wrath of the bald headed hate-filled man in Kansas.

Phill Kline should just change careers and go into preaching. After all, that seems to be where he is the most comfortable. Then he and his lovely wife can fleece the sheeple every week and no one will care. Do I hear an Amen?
