If Gov. Kathleen Sebelius wins a second term Tuesday, will she serve it to the end? Asked that question Thursday by the Topeka Capital-Journal, Sebelius clearly left the door open for another opportunity to intervene between now and her term-limited departure in January 2011 — say, as a vice presidential candidate on a Democratic ticket in 2008 or a Cabinet post in a Democratic White House. She said: “It’s my intention to serve if voters give me that opportunity.”

Sebelius intends to serve out a second term, but . . .
She forgot to wait on the Election results before making plans?
I think she’d be better as the first Democratic senator from Kansas for nearly seventy years, when Brownback’s seat comes up in 2010.
mark, only if he lives up to his word and doesn’t run again. Well, I hope she runs no matter what!
Rhonda Holman needs to go and take a full time job on Kline’s payroll. She is using her position on the Eagle to stump for the republican party and its getting old.
Hey how about blogging on Kline’s giving medical records to a talk show host???
naw..didnt’ see that one anywhere instead we see speculation on crap.
You know, I think the eagle has been pretty balanced, this is a place for the newspaper people to write what they really think. For every one that writes a pro-neocon piece, there is another who writes an demo piece. I appreciate their writings even if I disagree with them, and remember they give us the opportunity to post here to give them the what for if we disagree too!
I’d be thrilled to see Sebelius take over a senate seat or a White House seat. As long as she’s representing Kansas and the US in a positive way.
Brownback has presidential ambitions so it would be a great opportunity for Sebelius to take away his seat when Brownback is busy losing the Presidential primary.
It seems to me that the comment “It is my intention to serve if the voters give me that opportunity” is just a recognition that she hopes to be re-elected as governor. I am not sure, but maybe this quote has been taken out of context.”
So what’s the accusation here? That she may step down to run on a presidential ticket someday.
Was it a sell-out of Kansas when Bob Dole ran for president?
Anyone who thinks that Sebelius as Vice President is a bad thing for Kansas is not really worth paying attention to.
You can forget about Gov. Sebelius making a Democratic VP ballot. The Dems aren’t going to take someone from an economically-backward and electorally irrelevant state. For a Democratic woman, I think Christine Gregoire of Washington state would make sense. Washington state has a 21st century economy, which Kansas doesn’t have. Both its Republicans and Democrats are mostly moderates. I also like Bill Richardson, Gov. New Mexico, whose state tilts Red, but is also moving up fast as a 21st century high-tech state. I think if Barak Obama gets traction in the primaries, he’d make a reasonable VP candidate, albeit not one to be attached to Hillary. (I don’t think she could win.) Roy Romer, former Colorado governor, DNC Chair and LA school superintendent, would be great, but his age, 70 might likely be considered to be “too old”.
If a moderate Republican takes the presidential election, with a Democratic majority in one or both houses, America will be okay.
Where is the Open Thread for today?
My hunch is that the Saddam verdict will generate a very large Sunni-Baathist backlash. Civil War. No longer an insurgency-driven “potential civil war”. You get the whole banana that the Bush/Cheney co. will not be able to spin. But they aren’t going to kill each other off, enabling the U.S. oilogarchs to walk in and take control of the aftermath. They’re going to draw in supporters from other Middle Eastern nations. U.S. oilogarchs lose. The best thing we can do is get our troops out of harm’s way and not let them be gunned down in the crossfire as casualties in a war that we cannot control or win.
At least the governor is being honest about her political ambitions. Unlike some other national figures who make a promise not to run and then run anyway.
Right on, ProudMan,Ain’t nuthin wrong with ambition.
I would love to see Sebelius take Brownback’s Senate seat away from him! You Republicans should be happy then, at least the Lt Governor would be a former Republican.
Why are Republicans so afraid of a strong, self assured woman? Kathleen Sebelius can hold her own with the best of them. They also don’t like Hillary Clinton because she is another strong woman.
Sounds like it is a problem with the Repubs’ masculinity or lack thereof?
I’m sick of hearing how everyone loves Sebelius. What good has she done as governor during her first term? All of this economic growth she talks about is BS! There has been only one business that has grown under her leadership, and that’s Dr. Tiller’s version of Auschwitz.
oh that is really “cute” Auschwitz survivers would beat you to a pulp for that assinine comment.
You know nothing
Our Governor is one of the best we have ever had and has done a lot for Kansas cleaning up the mess left for her by pack em high and tight
According to Taker Todd Tiahrt, the ecomony is just booming due to all the fine work he has done - I guess someone MIGHT be making up crap here.
Thanks to Pam for recognizing the insult of Steinle’s Auschwitz comment.
Apparently the fact that abortion is LEGAL in Kansas is lost on Mr. Steinle.
Killing six million Jews and seven million others by the Nazis was apparently not LEGAL.
As for Ms. Sebelius - could you imagine where we would be had her moronic Republican opponent won in 2002?
That should be “Tanker Todd Tiahrt” although the typo version does have some relevance.
We could also mention the practice of China of forced abortions….and the chummy relationship of the US businesses with them.
But that doesn’t count when they live all the way over there.
Christine Gregoire of Washington and Gov.Sebelius were wriiten up in the same article if my memory serves me well. Both were given high marks so to speak. I would rather see Gov. Sebelius step up as President of the USA. She has the savvy and brain cells. Replacing the NOT republican Sam Brownback would not be a terrible situation.
Kansas needs to appoint a Blue Ribbon Panel to determine what to do about the position of Kansas Governor. As far as the office is concerned, it is only what the current occupant makes of it. The power of the office can range from extremely effective participant in state government to laid back ceremonial figurehead only — which is what I believe Kathleen Sebelius is doing with the job.
I still believe the most qualified candidates for Kansas governor come from leadership positions in the state senate and state house of representatives. In fact, if it was up to me, I would vote for letting the state legislature choose the governor from current members of either house of the Kansas legislature.
Our 40 state senators and 125 state representatives to Topeka should be able to jointly come up with the best person to lead the state of Kansas.
In my opinion, Mike Hayden was the last of the qualified and working governors of Kansas.
JWink,I think one of the bigger secrets this election campaign is that Jim Barnett would actually would make a good governor. What I want to know is why has your party starved him when it comes to funding his efforts? Is he not ideologically right enough? It is way past time for the Republican party in Kansas to take a look at itself.
