USA Today set the scene: The first woman speaker of the House. And committee chairmanships based on seniority, which means that, unlike now, the chairmen won’t be all male and white. “The gavel would go to at least four African-Americans, including John Conyers of Michigan at the Judiciary Committee helm and three women, including California’s Juanita Millender-McDonald and New York’s Nydia Velazquez, who would be the only Hispanic committee leader. Barney Frank of Massachusetts, who is openly gay, would lead a committee.” It’s possible that seven chairpeople could be older than 70. The piece ends with a pre-election caution, though, from Rep. John Dingell, D-Mich., who could head the House Energy and Commerce Committee: “Before you sell the bear’s hide, you first have to shoot the bear.”

I hope that the dems win big next week.
I hope that they give amnesty to every little filthy third world cretin, and I hope they keep the doors open and flood America with low-iq, disease ridden non-White filth.

When the Democrats take over the house, it will be up to us to keep them focused on resolving the issues they have run on. Specifically: A reasonble solution to the War on Iraq, a withdrawal based on a reasonable time line and accountability, a recommitment to find Bin Laden and bring him to justice, a real ethics and campaign reform, revision of the tax laws (not new or raised taxes), a real solution to the immigration issue – not the smoke and mirrors ot this administration — go after the employers of illegals, a reasonable guest worker program that makes companies recruit and pay for workers entry into the country, a viable technological border security program not a 700 mile boon doogle of a fence, meaningful health care reform. And hold Pelosi to her promise of not impeaching Bush, we can’t afford the time and money it will take — when the Texas Howdy Doody is out of office pursue viable investigations of this administrations deceit.
A Pelosi run House will be a wonderful breath of fresh air. No More Terri Schiavo like floor shows pandering to the kook fundies.
Kansans would be wise to embrace this and elect democrat Garth McGinn to replace Todd Tiahrt. If toady Todd is part of this new house, Pelosi is gonna tell him to sit down and shut up and rightly so.

GMC, your final statement is so true when it comes to the Congressman in question. It is incomprehensible to me that Pelosi is even considering him; just don’t understand the reasoning there. I would think he, due to the impeachment and conviction, would not be able to gain the necessary security clearance (unless members don’t have to meet the same standards as mere mortals). I wonder what the personal animosity (not that was clearly stated, but my inference) is between Pelosi and the ranking Dem on the Intelligence Committee is to pass her over for the chair, should the Dems get a majority and Pelosi the Speaker’s position.

I’ll admit, I have a LOT of concerns about Dingell as chair of Energy and Commerce.He’s a Life Member of the NRA (not that there’s anything wrong with that), and his votes in committee (at least the ones I’m familiar with) are generally so pro-business, you’d think he’s a Republican.If he’s a liberal, then he’s a liberal only Rush Limbaugh could love.
Bush Admin Seeks Closure of Iraq Reconstruction Corruption MonitorThe New York Times is reporting the Bush administration and leading Congressional Republicans are trying to close the office overseeing corruption and abuse in the US-led reconstruction of Iraq. A provision attached to this year’s military authorization bill says the Office of the Special Inspector General for Iraq Reconstruction will close on October 1st of next year. The office is headed by Republican lawyer Stuwart Bowen. Bowen’s investigations have indicted several American officials on corruption charges, documented wasteful and inept work by large contractors and found the Pentagon did not properly track hundreds of thousands of weapons given to Iraqi troops. Democratic Congressmember Henry Waxman said: “It appears the administration wants to silence the messenger that is giving us information about waste and fraud in Iraq.”

Well, maybe the fiscal realities of oil dependency will force the Congressman from GM to suddenly embrace alternative fuels. I’d like to think his masters in Detroit are thinking about it.
