We need a Pit Bull ban in Wichita ASAP! It was suggested by an animal control officer for me not to walk my dog in my own neighborhood because there are so many Pit Bull dogs around here. I say my rights to quality of life are being stomped on by many people who choose to keep these dogs just for status purposes. I have the right to walk about my community and I should feel safe when doing so. Why should I be expected to hide in my house for fear of being attacked by this breed of unpredictable dog? This problem needs to be addressed and dealt with swiftly so not only I, but other Wichitans can be and feel safe in their own neighborhoods. Ban the breed to prevent bad deeds… Help clean up Wichita of this bullying mentality of keeping Pit Bulls.

    I agree with you Wichitagirl.

I suggested to the animal control board that any owner with a dog 50 pounds or larger regardless of breed be required to have for the dog a certification in obedience training; a fenced yard;a $100 registration fee; minimum 7 foot high ‘durable’ fencing; warning signs; 100,000 dollar liability insurance; be registered in the possible vicious animal registry.

It may sound harsh, but we are dealing with an animal with teeth that at 50 pounds and larger can easily kill a small child. Obviously, the larger the animal the more of a threat it can become.

I can’t think of a reason for a private owner to house a large dog in town other than a need for sight/hearing/disability dogs.

Why would the Beagle put a picture of “Shorty” Sciortino, the loser, in the article about Gwen’s win? Why would they put a picture of Mayans in the Business article about Bellini’s and Melad Stephan and not a picture of the subject of the article?

The Beagle should also do an article about the campaign contributors to all the candidates in the recent local elections, and they should advocate that those contributions be posted on city / county web pages.

    I sympathize.

A few years ago, a loose young pit bull ALMOST attacked my then 8 year old son. The event could very easily have ended tragically.

As to what you can do? Talk to your neighbors who do not have pit bulls. Agree with them that if ANY of these dogs are EVER seen running loose that all of you will call Animal control. Call multiple times. Be prepared to go to hearings to back up animal control.

In my case, several neighbors had called to complain the day the dog was loose. I and several of my neighbors went to the subsequent hearing. The pit bull owner could not show that she could properly confine her dog. She never got it back. The dog was destroyed.

How a Democratic vet went on offense and help take down the Republican hypocrites.

It was like the Swift Boaters, except they didn’t lie–

“You have to get them in their own backyards and on their own issues,” says Soltz, who was trained as a military logician. “You’ll find a lot of Americans against the war, but not many Americans are against the troops.” He also had to compete against Vets for Freedom, a group with links to the same GOP consultants who floated the Swifties. Soltz says he made it a priority to strike first. In August, he spent a meager $14,000 (some of it on his credit card) to produce a controversial spot against Senator George Allen in Virginia. It featured a vet of the Iraq war unloading an AK-47 into outdated body armor on a firing range. Then the vet blames Allen for not voting to buy modern equipment. Cable news and the blogs went wild. So did the Vets for Freedom, who “strongly denounced” Soltz’s “deceitful” commercial. But with his ads running, Soltz was able to solicit more donations, which paid for body-armor ads in other tight Senate races, subbing in the names of other Republicans in tight Senate races: Rick Santorum, Conrad Burns, Jim Talent, and Jon Kyl. Then Soltz created spots featuring vets in wheelchairs and with amputated arms; he says he spent $2 million overall. “We were on offense, and they were on defense the whole time,” Soltz says. “It was awesome.” And, of course, Allen, Santorum, Burns, and Talent all lost.

Per NPR just now, 3 have been released, stating they were interrogated and physically abused.

There has got to be a change, Mr. President; surely, the Iraqi government can handle its own security in Baghdad. If not, then the whole program needs to be reviewed and revised, yes, with timetables to get the corrupt SOBs to act.

    This:

“If we had wanted our country to be run by James Baker, we had our chance. He was interested in running for president in 1996 but discovered that his interest in a James Baker presidency was not widely shared. Although he has held a variety of government posts, from undersecretary of commerce under Gerald Ford to secretary of state under Bush the Elder, and has all the trappings of enormous consequence and wisdom, such as a Presidential Medal of Freedom and his own James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy at Rice University, Baker is essentially a political operative. His place in history is Florida 2000, where he secured the presidency for George W. Bush. Reporters were awed by his brilliance and ruthlessness. History may be less admiring of his willingness to make inconsistent arguments and to lie with a straight face.”

Iraq will still be there after 2008, nothing much will change. Unfortunately American serviceman will continue to die and there is not much the new congress can or will do about it. The mid term elections were and always are predictable to say the least. When we finally do pull out of Iraq they will have to sort things out for themselves and probably break apart. Sad indeed that our guys will have died for a populace that doesn’t care. Certain Americans and Iraqis will make a lot of money in the process but this is the way of war. Our young people die and our elitists get richer. If you have one party or another in power it will not matter. The political system in the USA is ethically and morally bankrupt. Dems and Repubs are the problem they do not represent me or the vast majority of Americans. What can a person do though?

I think my biggest complaint about James A. Baker, III is that right after 9/11 we went to work for the Saudi Royal Family to defend them against any civil law suits that might emerge after the terroist attacks.

He is a true patriot, unless oil money is involved.

Bush is so incompetent though, we welcome the presence of an adult trying to work out the Iraqi mess — even if the adult is a crook and a liar.

A Liberal’s pledge to disheartened conservative’s and republicans:

    To: Conservatives and Republicans

I, and my fellow signatories, hereby make these promises to you:

    1. We will always respect you for your conservative beliefs. We will never, ever, call you “unpatriotic” simply because you disagree with us. In fact, we encourage you to dissent and disagree with us.

    2. We will let you marry whomever you want, even when some of us consider your behavior to be “different” or “immoral.” Who you marry is none of our business. Love and be in love — it’s a wonderful gift.

    3. We will not spend your grandchildren’s money on our personal whims or to enrich our friends. It’s your checkbook, too, and we will balance it for you.

    4. When we soon bring our sons and daughters home from Iraq, we will bring your sons and daughters home, too. They deserve to live. We promise never to send your kids off to war based on either a mistake or a lie.

    5. When we make America the last Western democracy to have universal health coverage, and all Americans are able to get help when they fall ill, we promise that you, too, will be able to see a doctor, regardless of your ability to pay. And when stem cell research delivers treatments and cures for diseases that affect you and your loved ones, we’ll make sure those advances are available to you and your family, too.

    6. Even though you have opposed environmental regulation, when we clean up our air and water, we, the Democratic majority, will let you, too, breathe the cleaner air and drink the purer water.

    7. Should a mass murderer ever kill 3,000 people on our soil, we will devote every single resource to tracking him down and bringing him to justice. Immediately. We will protect you.

    8. We will never stick our nose in your bedroom or your womb. What you do there as consenting adults is your business. We will continue to count your age from the moment you were born, not the moment you were conceived.

    9. We will not take away your hunting guns. If you need an automatic weapon or a handgun to kill a bird or a deer, then you really aren’t much of a hunter and you should, perhaps, pick up another sport. We will make our streets and schools as free as we can from these weapons and we will protect your children just as we would protect ours.

    10. When we raise the minimum wage, we will pay you — and your employees — that new wage, too. When women are finally paid what men make, we will pay conservative women that wage, too.

    11. We will respect your religious beliefs, even when you don’t put those beliefs into practice. In fact, we will actively seek to promote your most radical religious beliefs (”Blessed are the poor,” “Blessed are the peacemakers,” “Love your enemies,” “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God,” and “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”). We will let people in other countries know that God doesn’t just bless America, he blesses everyone. We will discourage religious intolerance and fanaticism — starting with the fanaticism here at home, thus setting a good example for the rest of the world.

    12. We will not tolerate politicians who are corrupt and who are bought and paid for by the rich. We will go after any elected leader who puts him or herself ahead of the people. And we promise you we will go after the corrupt politicians on our side FIRST. If we fail to do this, we need you to call us on it. Simply because we are in power does not give us the right to turn our heads the other way when our party goes astray. Please perform this important duty as the loyal opposition.

I promise all of the above to you because this is your country, too. You are every bit as American as we are. We are all in this together. We sink or swim as one. Thank you for your years of service to this country and for giving us the opportunity to see if we can make things a bit better for our 300 million fellow Americans — and for the rest of the world.

    Sincerely,

    The Undersigned

Who says Republicans are bad losers?

Here’s a letter to the editor published in today’s Topeka Capital-Urinal.

    “A sorry day

“The post-election headline read: “Democrats’ Day.” Thus it was the sorry day that voters chose to crucify Christ again, resurrect Hitler and render free reign for Satan to continue the slaughter of the unborn, cloning of humans for experimentation and destruction, protection of privacy for child rapists and sacralizing recreational same-gender sex as “marriage.”

“Thanks to Phill Kline for standing firm against such evils by upholding the truth of his Christian beliefs and morals. I wish I could have the honor of saying the same for fellow Catholic, Paul Morrison, who chose instead to betray his party, his country and his professed faith.

“But then perhaps, unlike myself, Mr. Morrison is exempt from rendering an account to God for upholding political views contrary to those of the church and faith he professes to believe in.”

It was signed by “JEANENE A. GILL, Topeka,” a consumate loser.

Women will laugh, men will wince at this storyBY STAN FINGERThe Wichita EagleMaybe it was karma.

Three men attempted to kidnap a teenager in a dispute over stereo speakers shortly before 4:45 p.m. Monday, Wichita police reported. One of the three pulled out a gun and fired it at the teen in the 1000 block of South Wichita.

The shot missed the teen. The shooter jammed the gun back into the waistband of his pants… and it went off.

The bullet struck the 23-year-old man in his left testicle, causing him to cringe — which caused the gun to fire again.

The second shot struck him in the left calf.

He walked into Via Christi Regional Medical Center’s St. Francis campus seeking treatment, police said, and was later booked into the Sedgwick County Jail on suspicion of aggravated assault and aggravated attempted kidnapping.

His companions, ages 18 and 20, were arrested for aggravated attempted kidnapping and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Allow me please to rain on your parade …..send your pony to the glue factory as it were.

Joe Lieberman is gonna snap to very quickly.

IF he gets froggy at all?

Well WE control the House by a good wide margin! See? The house is where all budgeting starts. SO if ol’ swinging gate Joe doesn’t toe the line? Well then there won’t be much goodies …..or anything else headed back to the good folks in Connecticut!

So? Stick your head BACK in the oven. Crawl BACK under your bed….or rock.

It’s the end of the world as YOU’VE known it!

    Have a nice day! : )~

Liberman might feel the Democratic party owes him something. On the other hand, a lot of people in the party might want to get even with him for various things. If he is smart, he’ll keep his head down. Since he was elected as an independent, does he have any seniority left? Does anybody know?

Lieberman’s ONLY loyalty is to the zionist entity and his fellow Christ-killers, that’s all. The man is a traitor, and devoid of any honor or integrity.

Except for the situation with the war Joe Lieberman has been a true Democrat for years. In many ways he reminds me of Hubert Humphrey.

In foreign policy I wish he would look more to the vision of Yitzak Rabin and less to Ariel Sharon.

‘In what will be one of his last opening statements as Senate Minority Leader, Reid called for the passage of tax breaks for middle-class families and businesses as well as appropriations bills that include funding for veterans’ health care, education and energy programs.

‘‚”For too long, Americans have watched as Washington has ignored their needs, and concentrated on special interests instead,” said Reid, Monday on the Senate floor. “Families have struggled with high health care costs… only to see big drug companies get billions from Congress. Ranchers in Nevada have struggled to fill their tanks with gas… only to see Big Oil companies get tax breaks. In the weeks and months ahead, Democrats will focus our energies on the real challenges facing America, and take concrete steps to protect the country and help working families get ahead.”

‘Reid proposed that the post-election Congressional session be used in part to extend critical middle-class and business tax cuts including the following:

    *Deductions for college tuition

*Deductions for state and local sales taxes

*Deductions for out-of-pocket expenses incurred by teachers

*For business, extending the Research and Development, Work Opportunity, and Welfare-to-Work tax credits

    *******

    Tax-breaks . . . wow, they’re not just for Paris Hilton anymore . . .

Since the people in the top 1% of wealth in this country really did not need a tax cut in 2001, how about a return to the 2000 tax scheme and reinstate the inheritence tax?

Relief for the middle class is long overdue. The correction we witnessed on 11-07 was due to the middle class coming to grips with the fact the Bush policies have endangered their futures and the future of their children. Past time for a change.

Steven: Ina break with a lot of conservatives, I have never understood the popularity of eliminating the inheritance tax. It benefits only the very rich, who found a way around a lot of it anyway.

At it’s former level, a very large amount could be passed along tax free (I would look up the number but I’m too lazy). I would support rolling it back to it’s former level, or just letting it sunset in a couple of years.

Capital gains tax repeal has to go too.

IT has caused too many to think of their own quarterlies and portfolios and NOT the future of the nation and its workers. Big boost to outsourcing that.

And ENOUGH with the lowball cutoff for FICA.

Glad to hear that you don’t 100% tow the Republican line, Outlander.

I am going to have to disagree with JR on Capital gains tax myself. I was in a position of having to downsize in 1990. I sold a house back then valued at 80K and bought a house for about 30K. This made sense to me due to my efforts to save money. Boy, did I get killed with capital gains tax. I learned during the process that the Bush elder was opposed to capital gains. I did not vote for him in ‘92, but GHWBush and I agreed on one issue.

    Steven

    Well….

An exemption could be made for homeowners like you and your case.

But overall? The elimination of the capital gains tax was tremendously destructive……..for most.

Now I’ve given you an exemption. But let’s start with your case.

You HAD money. You did something for whatever reason to have MORE money. There was no work done. Nothing was built or created. You just made a profit. But YOU paid for it.

Think of all the corporations whose vision has been narrowed over the years. First, they looked at the annuals and how well their shareholders fared.

Then it got down to quarters.

With the elimination of the capital gains tax, corporations can now narrow down to the day to day on how their stockholders fare. Outsource production? Stock price goes up. The affected workers? Too bad. Hey the stockholders are happy. No hit at tax time for them to remind them. The CEO gets a fat bonus. He has got the stockholders richer. No government reminder to him either.

Real estate? No captial gains hit says do what is most profitable with the land…or the houses…or the open spaces. No penalty.

More? Before capital gains tax was repealed, those making those capital gains had to try and shelter the gains from taxes. They gave to charities to get an exemption. Now they don’t have to. So they don’t.

“You HAD money. You did something for whatever reason to have MORE money. There was no work done. Nothing was built or created. You just made a profit. But YOU paid for it.”

But, see I did work – for several years in fact to build up equity in my house. If I had purchased a house that was more expensive than my first I could have kept my money. I paid the price of being stupid. Not something I have done since.

Steven – I had a similar experience with cap gains when I had to sell a house. However, you should know that the evil Bill Clinton changed that. Now you could sell that house (principal residence) and have no tax on the first $500,000 of capital gains.

Ask your tax accountant; he can give you the details.
