Method to Pelosi’s moment of madness?

Everybody thinks that incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., blew it big time by backing Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., to be House majority leader over the winner, Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md. But she’s known to have a good working relationship with Hoyer. Maybe it was not a case of backing the wrong horse but rather of publicly showing loyalty to a guy, Murtha, who had a lot to do with changing the nation’s mood on Iraq, who had no chance of winning (given his murky ethics), and who will now be less inclined to give her grief.

Possible. After all, it’s all about outward image and the public perception in this country. Maybe it’s a ruse to show that she’s not all that powerful either, looking weak to hide one’s true strength. I don’t know, I’m confused now…

It is also about democracy in action. She made her recomendation; the membership voted as they chose.

I think one thing we will see is that we will not have Dennis Hastert’s “Republican initiatives only” approach with her. If a group of “conservative” Democrats want to team up with moderate Republicans to get things done they will be able to do so. Hastert had a rule that it required a majority of the GOP caucus; basically he sought to make moderates on both sides irrelevant.

Yeah, I agree Rhonda. I caught Pat Buchanan on the tube last night saying essentially the same thing. He seemed to be impressed by the public show of loyalty she extended to Murtha.

All in all, I’d have to say that so far I’m far less nervous about Pelosi as Speaker than I was a year ago. So far so good. In fact, so far even better than good, imo.

I see that they want to increase the minimum wage. Why don’t these left wingnut wackos stop trying to force their religious views down our throats?

    ron,

If you meant that ironically, that’s some funny shit. And if you were serious, it’s still some funny shit.

Now that the Democratic leadership fight is over, we can get back to the real show: watching the meltdown of the Bush Administration as Daddy’s men come in to pick up the pieces.

It’s too bad she didn’t tour the area on the other side of the fence. Then perhaps she would have some understanding of the despair that are reasons for the infiltration.

    Despair.

    Think about it folks.

Think about how many people die trying to cross the border in inhospitable terrain or locked in back of trucks. They know the risks. But they do it.

How much more secure will our fence be than theirs?

Depends on what is on the other side. In both cases we can effect that.

The fact that Ian hates Nancy Pelosi means that she’s probably pretty good. She didn’t get to where she is by being dumb, and I’m glad we have a female speaker of the house. I just may get to see a woman president in my lifetime, how cool!!

Yeah, but we’re waiting for Harman to be replaced by the wonderful Alcee Hastings….that shows us they are right on top of that “corruption” thingy.

Contrary to Holman’s claim that Pelosi and Hoyer have a god working relationship, PBS reports that they have been rivals since 1963. It appears that Pelosi’s support for Murtha had less to do with loyalty to that corrupt Democrat and more to do with bitterness towards Hoyer.http://www.pbs.org/newshour/108th/bio_hoyer.html

Let’s see: the Democrats held an election for the leadership posts in their caucus, and its a ‘huge loss’ for Pelosi when Murtha failed in his bid to be majority leader. Uhhhhh, right. I don’t know if the ‘liberal’ media caught this, but the GOP has leadership elections, AS WELL. The next two years are going to be all about blowing every defeat of any Democrat into a ’stunning setback’ or a ‘crucial loss.’ Sad, really.

And its nice that you’ve migrated over here, Kevin, err, Arminius, after your ass got booted off the LJW board for about the eighth time. Loser.

“Incumbent Troy Findley buried a primary opponent to put his campaign on Easy Street. The Democrat faces no general election foe for the 46th District.

Rep. Troy Findley, D-Lawrence, can pack away the yard signs and skip the campaign forums following Tuesday’s landslide victory over GOP turncoat Kevin Groenhagen.

Findley, who has represented east-central Lawrence’s 46th District for two years, has no Republican opponent in the general election.

The final tally: Findley, 1,043; Groenhagen, 171. Findley captured 86 percent of the ballots.

Groenhagen, who left the GOP in 1995, campaigned as a Jeffersonian Democrat. His agenda included tax reform, passing school vouchers and legalizing hemp.

He said the turning point in the campaign was a decision by Forrest Swall, Douglas County’s Democratic Party chairman, to disown him as a Democrat.

Swall said Groenhagen was “about as extremist right-wing Republican as you can get in Douglas County.”

    That says it all.

Plastic Pelosi will prove to be one of the most unethical housekeepers in the history of this once fine country. Give her enough rope, she’ll hang herself, just out of habit.
