It’s not just cell phone-impaired drivers you need to be concerned about. The latest road distraction, according to this article: text messaging.
Seems more and more drivers are attempting to type messages, send e-mails and manipulate BlackBerrys while hurtling down the roads.
I passed a young woman the other day who appeared to be text messaging while driving on Douglas: She kept looking down rapidly at something held in her lap.
Frightening.

The time has come to make talking on cell phones while driving against the law — just like drinking while driving. Its very dangerous as I notice every day.
JWink,
CF seconds that. In a big way.
I ride a motorcycle, so maybe I’m more aware from a defensive driving standpoint, but I’m amazed daily at the stupid antics of drivers on cell phones. I’ve had the hell scared out me many times by people that have no awareness of their actions while behind the wheel.
Cell phones need to be somehow made illegal to use while operating a motor vehicle.
I talk ALOT on my phone while I drive. I find it one of the few places i can actually hold a conversation and not be interrupted by someone walking in or wanting to talk to me.
So, i admit, i talk a lot while i drive. BUT, about six months ago i bought a Blue-tooth headset to work with my phone. It think its great! I keep my hands on the wheel and i can more easily pay attention to the road and the conversation. (oh and yes, i can do both.)
i think the state should make talking on your cell phone WITHOUT a headset illegal. Also, text messaging or browsing the web unless your stopped. (i was browsing the results on my phone last night while heading home).
I agree w/ Tony. If you’re on the phone then you must be on a handsfree setup (headset/bluetooth). Like Tony the car is one of the few places I can return or make calls and not be interupted.
I would make an exception for 911 calls from a hand-held.
This editorial was text messaged from Randy’s new Lexus, a gift from his relatives who own SCHOLFIELD AUTO SALES and who, along with your local Rent A Center, invite all consumers to come on in and get protected real good. Now, so sorry, but Randy will not answer questions about his biases and sources of income. But never forget that he sure wants to play journalist real bad. SO,,,let’s just forget about investigating whiz kids Wandy and just watch as he has his way with anyone else he and the Board decide to unfairly lampoon. HEY, BECAUSE WE CAN!!! HAHAHAHAHHAHAAND NOW, THIS WORD FROM RANDY’S SPONSORS: This message brought to you by Rent A Center and the new car dealers of Wichita, who ask, “Why own when you can lease from us in perpetuity???”
