Kansas has a congresswoman again

Nobody gave Nancy Boyda much of a second chance of beating Rep. Jim Ryun, R-Topeka, who dispatched her two years ago. But the Democrat ran a hard, aggressive campaign that tapped into the voters’ mood for change and even got President Bush’s attention. It also didn’t help that Ryun, for all his past prowess on the track, had a lackluster record to show for his five terms in Congress.

We are only one senate seat away from Senator Pat Roberts losing all of his power on the senate intelligence commitee. Yippee..

There will be a recount in Virginia. The first count said Webb won by 8,000 votes, about one-half of one percent. If there is a recount, it will be December before we know if the Democrats have a majority.

Even though there will be a recount in Virginia, it is highly unlikely that the outcome will change.

The Democrats will control 51 seats in the Senate come January.

And yes, it is GREAT that Kansas was a female Representative.

    And a female Governor.

Kansas is moving s-l-o-w-l-y towards the 21st century.

Rhonda, you need to get a reality check. What did Boyda run on other than hatred of Bush and Ryun? I’m waiting…still waiting…

These Dummycrats want you to believe they are agents of change, but they don’t have a plan to implement the change!

    WAH! WAH! WAH!

And what did Ryun run on other than slavish devotion to Bush?

The RepubliCONS want you to believe they are agents of protecting the country, but they don’t have a plan to fix their mess in Iraq!

I’m not sure the Webb/Allen recount is mandatory. I thought the difference had to be less than 2500 votes, but I don’t swear by that. And I haven’t seen any TV since earlier this morning.

RD – I think it is 1/2 % – which would be about 10,000 or so.

Too bad we didn’t have that rule in FL in 2000.

Could be, hmmmm. It was late and I wasn’t paying close attention. Right now, I don’t care. Whatever the outcome, we’re still ahead.

RD, the VA recount isn’t automatic; if the margin is 1/2 of 1%, but <=1%, the cost of any requested recount is on the candidate (per CNN about 12:30 a.m. 11/8/06, to the best of my recollection).

Should be “>1/2 of 1%”; also , if margin is <=1/2 of 1%, it’s on the Commonwealth’s dime.

    A plan…

    http://www.ft.com/cms/s/e10304e4-6f54-11db-ab7b-0000779e2340.html

100 hours. The RepublicCON (I like that….) talking point about no plan only holds up since the so called “liberal” media in this nation is in the pocket of the right wing of the GOP (witness political director of ABCNews comment that Matt Drudge “rules our world”). Financial times link above has a nice rundown of Pelosi’s plan for the 1st 100 HOURS.

On the up side – at least Bush is learning… he clearly had an exit plan for Rumsfield in place. If only he’d had one for Iraq

better yet – if only he’d “stayed the course” on Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban instead of playing empire….

Vaughn’s recount explanation squares with what I heard as well. Moreover, if I heard correctly, Allen could concede and no recount would occur. It would mark a state of emotional maturity and graciousness for him to make the concession this week, akin to a golfer conceding a 12 inch putt to his opponent. We’ll just have to see if the GOP can sensibly move on, or will they desperately grasp at straws?

Do we have any posters from Boyda’a district? YOU guys rock. Good for you!

Been out and about on this more than beautiful day.

What no one has called this one yet? In Montana, the Dem leads by about 3,000. There are only a thosand or so votes not counted.

Virginia? Allen would have to think carefully about that. Remember the guy has Presidential aspirations. An unseemly recount fight does him more harm than good unless he is sure it will change the result. He’d be better off to concede.

SO the Dems have the Senate too.

In addition? Kitty Kat Harris’s old seat is VERY close (300 votes) and there was an undervote for that race. This may be another pick up for the Dems.

All in all a very good day!

Hmmm . . . They DID have that rule in Florida.

That’s the mandatory recount that the RepubliCONS shut down.

Oh, baby, baby, this is like watching Armstrong step out on to the moon.

Bush doesn’t have to worry about impeachment.

He has to worry about major prison time.

Did you hear Bush’s press conference today? I tuned in halfway through while it was on the radio. I couldn’t understand a thing Bush said. He sounded like a drunk Bob Dylan or a street person talking to their imaginary little friends.

This guy is in serious need of treatment of some kind.
