Chorus growing to divest KPERS from Sudan

Kansas lawmakers and the governor may wonder whether divesting the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System from Sudan would be worth the trouble. They now have some high-profile opinions to the contrary, what with Tuesday’s joint letter to governors from Sen. Sam Brownback, R-Kan., and Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., urging such divestiture. In addition, four Democrats and two Republicans in the U.S. House — none from Kansas — sent letters to Sebelius and other governors calling for state pension funds to get out of Sudan and add to the pressure on the Sudanese government to stop the genocide. As Brownback said on the issue last week: “Divestment helped bring an end to apartheid in South Africa, and I hope the example already set by six states will inspire other governors to take action.”

This is exactly what needs to be done. I hope Sebelius takes Brownback’s advice on this issue. There is no time to waste beating around the bush when it comes to genocide.

Rhonda, from the looks of the comments…there does NOT seem to be a “Chorus” around KPERS. It seems to be a very small chorus if so.

And these actions and orgs such as KPERS can morph into very dangerous groups. CALPERS ( California version) is so large they now demand position on Corp. boards due to their investment size. Then they drag in their socialist tendencies that match their membership, ie Calif Teachers Union, Public Employees union, Nurses union and try to foister their decrepit work practices on the very corps they sit on and its Corp governance.

They are in fields where no one can be fired for malfeasance, which there is much of…especially in the Teachers unions etc. Their practices have no place in the free markets of the world yet their interference is now slowing down growth and change that is needed for furthering more employment by their own outdated statist complacency.

Hopefully Brownback will be turned out next time or maybe he will make a dimwitted run for president. That should be a hoot. With his sudden compassionate conservatism biting him on his open border and North American Union sympathies for the Security and Prosperity Partnership to join Canada, US and Mexico. with massive immigration and open borders. That will give him many more poor people here in the US to be concerned with and wont need to worry about Sudan.
