Phill Kline’s race to the bottom

Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline is bottom-feeding by dredging up a 15-year-old sexual harassment allegation against challenger Paul Morrison — a case that was dismissed twice for lack of evidence.
Kline slipped a mention of the allegation into a debate last week in Wichita. He then held a press conference about it Monday in Topeka.
But Kline was upstaged by Morrison’s wife, who showed up at the press conference and rebutted the charges.
“I don’t know when Phill lost his moral compass,” Joyce Morrison said. “I don’t understand how a person who claims family values can go out and attack another person’s family.”
Coming in the wake of new poll results that give Morrison a 13-point lead, Kline’s attack is likely to carry the whiff of desperation.

I believe the statement was done in retaliation of Morrison’s personal attacks on Kline. Morrison appears to be bottom feedin as well and for a longer period of time.

And where exactly are these polls taken I would like know. What neighborhood and what is the political demographics of the neighborhood?

Mysterious how this polls just pop up out of nowhere. I’ve taken 1 political poll in my entire life and I took the iniative to do that myself.

I just imagine pollster when they go down the voter list and see Republican by my name, keep going until they find a Democrat.

    Polls are rubbish.

The only thing Phill Kline could find on Morrison was a 15-year old sexual harrassment case that had been dismissed twice? Morrison has been a district attorney and has made probably made alot enemies along the way by sending criminals up the river, so it is not surprising that someone tried to get Morrison on something.

But the facts are there was lack of evidence which means the case was obviously drummed up.

And kudos to Morrison’s wife for showing up and defending her husband. BTW, where is Phill Kline’s wife? I’ve never seen her.

JM, I have noted over time that many folks’ reactions to polls is similar to their definition of “activist judges”. In both cases, it depends on what side of the fence the person is.

I, too, am dubious of polls, although I don’t discount the results just because I wasn’t one of the persons contacted. Assuming a reliable sample, polls can provide an accurate “snapshot” of the public as of the date and time the poll was conducted. I suspect the pollsters learned their lesson in 1948, when they quit polling 3 weeks before the election, and missed the shift for Truman.

“Kline said he was justified in bringing up the lawsuit because Morrison often has mentioned that Kline’s nephew, whom Kline had hired to be his driver, had been arrested on drug charges, and that Bryan Brown, whom Kline hired as director of the attorney general office’s consumer affairs division, had been arrested a dozen times as an anti-abortion protester.”Lawrence Journal World, Scott Rothschild , oct 17,2006

More on Polls:Concerning the poll in this particular blog:”Filtering: 1,000 Kansas adults were interviewed 10/13/06 – 10/15/06. Of them, 795 were registered to vote. Of them, 541 were judged to be “likely voters” for the Governor’s contest. 535 were judged to be “likely voters” for Attorney General. 531 were judged to be “likely voters” for Secretary of State. 525 were judged to be “likely voters” for Treasurer. 532 were judged to be “likely voters” for Insurance Commissioner.”

All that “filtering and judging” is not likely to produce a fair poll.

Besides using 535 voters out of an Electorate populatation is hardly statistically sound mathematics to prove who is ahead or behind in political race or a horse race.

It’s always amusing to me how Republicons (no typo) discount each and every poll that shows them losing, them warmly embrace the ones that show them ahead. It’s just part and parcel of typical GOP hypocrisy, of which they would be ahead in EVERY poll.

Can anyone imagine that happening in today’s polarized political climate?

    Is this Phill Kline?

    http://www.gossamer-wings.com/soc/Notes/race/tsld007.htm

Adorno identified the authoritarian personality type as having these characteristics. The authoritarian personality does not want to give orders, their personality type wants to take orders. People with this type of personality seek conformity, security, stability. They become anxious and insecure when events or circumstances upset their previously existing world view. They are very intolerant of any divergence from what they consider to be the normal (which is usually conceptualized in terms of their religion, race, history, nationality, culture, language, etc.) They tend to be very superstitious and lend credence to folktales or interpretations of history that fit their preexisting definitions of reality (thus the Founding Fathers of the US are conceptualized of as supporters of white nationalism.) They think in extremely stereotyped ways about minorities, women, homosexuals, etc. They are thus very dualistic- the world is conceived in terms of absolute right (their way) Vs. absolute wrong (the “other” whether African American, liberal, intellectual, feminist, etc.)

I get a 99% total in the poll which is consistent with what you say here. 97% gov makes sense too when there is a Libertarian alternative good for a couple points.

With almost zero undecided I would say that both Kline and barnett are in a hole. However, not insurmountable.

What ethical lapses? The Ethics Committee is still looking into it. Do you believe he’s guilty until possibly declared innocent, and then hope media ignores his innocence?

He didn’t sell his land in 2001, so couldn’t report it as a “sale”. He transferred it into an LLC, and continued to own it, through the LLC.

Unlike Hastert, Reid did not use his influence to cause the land to increase in value. He bought it at market value, and the increase in value (profit) was normal for that rapidly growing area.

Campaign donations to the employee holiday fund in his apartment building? That was for the extra work they had to do because of Reid’s campaign, and helping the security officers assigned to him. I also attended the BTK press conference. Does anyone recall the wrenching conclusion to that ill-fated assembly? After two or more hours introducing everyone involved including AG Phill Kline, the Police Chief announced the congratulatory speeches had finally come to an end. With smiles all around and cameras rolling from all over the world — finally a strident voice from the crowd yelled, “Who in the h— is BTK anyway”?

Shocked, the Chief asked the Sheriff. The KBI asked the FBI. Everyone looked at each other. “No, no, we don’t know.”

Amazingly no one seemed to know. Finally, before they could send a runner up to the jail to ask BTK himself, someone finally said, “I think BTK is Dennis Rader.”

Had BTK surrendered by revealing his name, address and telephone number in the word puzzle he sent to the police? Or was he “captured”? Your guess is as good as mine.

With that, the long frightening 35 year old murder case ground to a conclusion.

Do you want to claim, on this blog, that AP’s Solomon coverage of Reid during the last 6 months is not inaccurate?http://www.tpmmuckraker.com/archives/001782.php

    Over the hill, Phill . . .

Looks like a 45 year old is soon to get a pink slip like all the working stiffs that voted for him.

I’m sure he’ll be able to get a job just as good as the one he had–it’s entirely a matter of “personal responsibility” remember, Phill?

I graduated from Washburn Law School in 1980 with Paul Morrison. He will not receive my vote. I realize the sexual harassment charges were dropped. I am not surprised they were filed not because he came onto the female students but because of the distain he held for the women students.

And Phill Kline does not show his disdain for women each time he opens his mouth? I find Kline to be a self-serving male who will use the issue of women to get to where he wants to go politically.

If he really cared about abortion and child rapists/molesters, then he would be out looking for medical records in all hospitals and clinics – not just the abortion clinics.

As soon as the poll numbers came out showing the shift to Morrison, primarily crediting Wichita, the Eagle opinion editors, buttons popping ‘cuz their unrelenting mud slinging had paid dividends, cranked out yet another attack.

They did this while ignoring TV ads by challenger Morrison casting aspersions on Kline’s ethics for hiring Bryan Brown because of his 16 arrests for civil disobedience, based on principle. Yet in the same issue, on the front page lauds civil rights civil disobedience. I wonder what the Eagle would think of those refusing to hire African-Americans because they had engaged in civil disobedience? Or impuning those who had did?

    Hypocrisy, thy name is Eagle.

Do we get front page coverage of the ethically challanged Reid? I think I’m starting to turn blue, but, I’ll keep holding my breath.

Can we work to insure Tanker Todd is not re-elected? Will we vote for Garth McGINN? I hope so.I think Garth, as unknown as he is, can be a new fresh voice for moderates and independents in district 4. In reviewing todd’s record I can’t see much of anything he has actually accomplished for the district / Kansas in 12 years. He voted 4 times against a Congressional Investigation into the Halliburton, Caci et al contracts in Iraq that have squandered billions and adversely affected our soldiers ability to fight the best fight. He purports to supporting our troops yet has voted for legislation / appropriations that have REMOVED 2 billion dollars from the Military Personnel budget. I cannot find any legislation, supporting the military that todd has sponsored or co-sponsored in the last 4 years. He recently voted for a meager 2.2% pay raise for the military, even though DOD and the Senate had approved a 2.7% pay raise. Todd has also been a close ally of Tom Delay, the Texas rep that resigned when he was indicted for campaign fund raising irregularities in Texas and money laundering. Todd gave and received money from delays various shadowy PACs.GARTH McGINN, although new, can and will be part of the new Democratic Congress that will take aggressive steps in Ethics reform, Immigration reform. and tax reform. I believe he can be instrumental in bringing / advocating for the alternative fuels industry in Kansas, creating thousands of jobs, and providing new revenue sources for kansas farmers — he deserves our support.Tell our friends — tell your neighbors — think of the positive headlines it will bring to the nation when the unknown Democrat,GARTH McGINN, from Kansas defeats an entrenched conservative republican lackey without the benefit of much if any help from the DNC.his web site is:www.gogarth.org he will appreciate any help you can provide.

    hotlick,

“I don’t know where you get Perve boy didn’t resign.”

My bad, a typo, left off the “?” at end of sentence.

Point is, “Perv boy” admitted his guilt, but Reid denied he did anything wrong. At worst, Reid did a minor technical violation.

Why do you think the two cases deserve equal media coverage?

hotlick – I haven’t seen any articles in the Eagle about ethically-challenged Hastert:

    Hastert crooked land deal:

“Hastert used his office to increase the value of his real estate, there is no similar evidence about Reid’s transaction.

House Speaker J. Dennis Hastert pocketed almost $2 million from real estate deals adjacent to his Plano home in booming Kendall County, one of the fastest growing areas in the nation. The transactions prompted questions Wednesday from the Sunlight Foundation, a new watchdog group, about whether Hastert, who earmarked $207 million in federal dollars for the proposed Prairie Parkway, had his profits swollen because of the highway. In an October 6 column for The New Republic Online, American Enterprise Institute resident scholar Norman Ornstein and Center for American Progress senior fellow Scott Lilly filled in more details regarding Hastert’s “unusually active role in shepherding” the 2005 transportation bill, to which he earmarked the funds for the Prairie Parkway. According to their column, Hastert assumed “a more aggressive role than he played at any other point in his speakership.” Ornstein and Lilly also wrote:The Hastert earmark not only provided money for Parkway construction but mandated that the construction take place on the portion of the Parkway nearest his recently purchased property. While the money contained in the highway bill was sufficient to build only about one-third of the entire 36-mile road, the speaker insured that the right third would be selected by also earmarking funds for construction of a [sic] interchange in that portion of the proposed tho[r]oughfare [sic].By contrast, there are no allegations that Reid used his office in any way that might have affected the value of his land.

What is the typical wingnut response here when they are confronted with the very REAL ethical issues surrounding their leaders?

They shout “Harry Reid, Harry Reid”.

    And might I add….

BILL CLINTON BILL CLINTON BILL CLINTON

Geez, we dont even let FIVE year olds get away with saying “yeah but the other kids did it too.”

Especially when the “other kids” DIDNT commit the kind of offenses they did. AND they were caught red handed.

    But please, feel free….
