Study Claims Iraq’s ‘Excess’ Death Toll Has Reached 655,000
By David BrownWashington Post Staff WriterWednesday, October 11, 2006; Page A12
A team of American and Iraqi epidemiologists estimates that 655,000 more people have died in Iraq since coalition forces arrived in March 2003 than would have died if the invasion had not occurred.
The estimate, produced by interviewing residents during a random sampling of households throughout the country, is far higher than ones produced by other groups, including Iraq’s government.
A man mourns his son Friday in Baqubah, a city north of Baghdad. The child died in random gunfire near a family home in the village of Khan Bani Saad. (By Mohammed Adnan — Associated PressIt is more than 20 times the estimate of 30,000 civilian deaths that President Bush gave in a speech in December. It is more than 10 times the estimate of roughly 50,000 civilian deaths made by the British-based Iraq Body Count research group.
And consider this: the dead have surviving family members who are really pissed off. They will want vengeance. In particular, parents whose children have been killed have only one thing left to live for – REVENGE!
Is it any wonder we are creating more vengeance-minded enemies than we can possibly exterminate?
I highly recommend the film “Iraq for sale”. It is showing tonight at one of the libraries. There is no charge. Unless somebody beats me to it, I will be back with the name of the library.
The film is just over an hour long and details well the entrenchment of American corporate interests in the Iraq war. Also covered is the fact that private corporate interests are controlling the detention and treatment of prisoners, the slipshod work done to feed and water and provision our troops, and the poor accounting that is essentially robbing American taxpayers in the whole shoddy mess.

Thanks for the plug, J.R.
How’d your son enjoy the coffee?!
My grandmother (Amish) said they used to give her bread with sweet coffee and milk poured over it–they called it “coffee soup” hehe.
Anyway I’m going to keep spamming this until tomorrow–
ROBERT GREENWALD DOCUMENTARY “IRAQ FOR SALE” TO BE SHOWN FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC IN WICHITA
You probably remember a few of Robert Greenwald’s other movies such as “Outfoxed” and “WalMart: The High Cost of Low Price.” In “Iraq for Sale,” Robert takes you inside the lives of soldiers, truck drivers, widows and children who have been changed forever as a result of profiteering in the reconstruction of Iraq. The film uncovers the connections between private corporations making a killing in Iraq and the decision makers who let it happen.

Region VI football final to be at Cessna StadiumBY JEFFREY PARSONThe Wichita EagleThis year’s Region VI junior-college football championship will be held at Wichita State’s Cessna Stadium, several coaches and Region VI director Tom Saia said today. The game will be held at 1:30 p.m. Nov. 12.
The Greater Wichita Area Sports Commission will make a formal announcement later this afternoon.
In recent years, the region has moved its baseball, softball, women’s basketball and men’s basketball championships to Wichita.
Football’s region playoffs were already under a new format this season, going from eight teams to four. In the past, the higher seeded team hosted each game. Now the championship will have a neutral field.
“I think it’s going to bring a lot of people,” Saia said. “It’s a great product we’re trying to sell, and I think the central location will be better for the media and four-year coaches scouting the players. The Sports Commission is bending over backwards for us, and they’re going to make it a really great event.”

Will,
Ain’t you bein PARANOID there, boyo? It’s all just a coinkydink and I am SURE that we will see no more “incidents”. Back to your beer and negro ballgames, sheeple, there is nothing to see here, move along, that is all.
Viva La Raza Blanco!!
I was pleased to meet you Capn and it was good to see C F again and to meet .morg.
The coffee? Yeah thanks alot for that! I couldn’t scrape the kid off the cieling until after 10:30! Ever see the Tweeks coffee episode of South park? It was like that. No more coffee for the kid thanks.
The film was also a real eye opener. I had no idea there were corporate militias and private interrogation firms. It is definitely educational.
NEW YORK – A small aircraft crashed into a high-rise on the Upper East Side, setting off a fire and startling New Yorkers, police said. There were conflicting reports on whether the aircraft was a small plane or a helicopter.
ADVERTISEMENTFire Department spokeswoman Emily Rahimi said an aircraft struck struck the 20th floor of a building on East 72nd Street. Witnesses said the crash caused a loud noise, and burning and falling debris was seen. Flames were seen shooting out of the windows. Video from the scene showed at least three apartments in the high rise fully engulfed in flames.
“There’s huge pieces of debris falling,” said one witness who refused to give her full name. “There’s so much falling now, I’ve got to get away.”
Whether anyone was injured was not known, and it was unclear if the crash was an act of terrorism.
The address of the building is 524 E. 72nd Street — a 50-story condominium tower built in 1986 and located nearby Sotheby’s Auction House. It has 183 apartments, many of which sell for more than $1 million.
Hey all normal, middle of the road Democrats and even Republicans.
WE are looking for people in the Haysville area to work on the 93rd District campaign of Marcy Greggory-D of Goddard… She is running against incumbent Dick Kelsey-R of Lake Afton.
Marcy is very middle of the road type of person and is running because we dislike Mr. Kelsey’s self serving actions in Topeka.
Anyone interested or know n e one, send me an email, the one here is live. I will get you in contact with Marcy.
Thanks
This might hurt you more than help you, but I whole-heartedly endorse Marcy! In fact, hers might be the only sign in my yard this year.
Kelsy is a self-serving pant-load. He is in Topeka to feather his own next exclusively.
Marcy has been very active in the community in Goddard and has worked tirelessly to improve the status of our schools. She is a very hard worker and would work tirelessly for the people in the 93rd district.
Hank
Hank – that is definitely help in my opinion. Mary is not an ideologue; she is a pragmatist. So are you. So is Tony (sort of for a kid). Looking at my comment above – get the moderates in both parties to get together …
Hey Ben,
I have no idea how she’ll do in November. She should do very well with the Goddard voters, she’s done a lot for Goddard and they are finally starting to figure Kelsey out.
The problem is that in the 93rd district you can’t get the religious right vote unless you’ve handcuffed your butt to a horse trailer blocking Teller’s drive.
Hank
NEW YORK – A small plane with New York Yankees pitcher Cory Lidle aboard crashed into a 50-story condominium tower Wednesday on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, killing at least four people and raining flaming debris on sidewalks, authorities said.
There was no immediate confirmation Lidle was among the dead.
I was not there and did not know who this pitcher is. But if he was on the plane and it hit a building. Burst into flames and fell 50 stories…I will go out on the limb the authority won’t he is one of the four dead!No need to watch the five O’Clock news to know that! If he is not, the boy has one of the largest crosses around his neck and God has a plan for him that does not involve Baseball.
Hank,
“…unless you’ve handcuffed your butt to a horse trailer…”
Uhhh… how do you do that? Do they make handcuffs that big? Wouldn’t it slip off?
Yep. On this I think we see eye-to-eye.
A question I have begun to pose to some of those people in the adjacent 94th District: “Well, you have elected and re-elected your anti-abortion candidate. Has he eliminated abortion yet?”
I think your payoff on our bet will do more for that than all the picketers.
Hank–
Admitting some politicians are in it for their own interests . . . backing a dem . . .
You CAN think for yourself. I apologize for doubting that.
Note to self–no more picking on Hank for awhile.
Regards,
CapnA
Hey Capn, talk about a back-handed compliment. How did that feel Hank? So Capn, when are you going to start showing the same ability to think for yourself as Hank?
Or maybe you are. What Republican are you backing?
Seen Kline’s latest ad? He explains that a child’s word is not good enough and need to be backed by medical records. That even Morrison said he has used medical records in court cases. Yeah Phil, it is not uncommon to use medical records in a trial. But there are “The horse before the cart”, what you wanted to do was the “cart before the horse”. Morrison has a crime and used the records to prove the case. He did not want just a look-see to find the crime. “Probable cause” Phil…heard of it?
Ron Paul and Olympia Snowe.
Jerry Moran gets my applause for not peeing on the constitution like the other Republicans are.
Moore the so-called Democrat peed on it too . . .
Hey Capn,When do you and CF want to get together to discuss your little project?
Thanks for asking, Mr. C.
It’d have to be after the election before we could get started because I’m doing too much volunteering right now.
But we could talk about it anytime.
:)
BTW, do you know if Matt Goolsby is off the air? I tuned in a couple of times at his usual time and heard Laura Ingram . . .
Captain
No, as far as i know hes still on… check out his site; http://www.mattgoolsby.com/
He is going to interview the guys from the Museum of World Treasures this week is what it says…
I jus wait for the pod cast…
So Barnett is attacking Sebelius for criticizing anti-science creationists and the Phelps. Yeah, looks like Barnett is so desperate he’s going for the crazy vote. Actually, in Kansas, that should be at least 5%, he already has Paul’s vote.
Important new book about to be released. It is from David Kuo who was part of the “faith based initiatives” branch of the bush administration. It is called “Tempting Faith” and details how the bush administration and neocons are lying to, making sport of and basically using the religious right to maintain politial power while ignoring their concerns. YOU know, like they did with Mark Foley?
Hell Doug,
I betcha its higher than 5%… A local city councilman here in Goddard actually brought up Abortion in the City Council race last time around…
I’m thinking u could easily go to double digits…
Hey, anyone know if they have thoes “Another Republican voting for Sebelius” signs this year???
I need one.
Quote of the Day:
“Reactionaries and traditionalists recognize a threat to their society the moment it appears. Conservatives recognize a threat to their society only after the society is half ruined. And liberals and leftists recognize a threat to their society only after the society is completely ruined, or they never recognize it at all.” Lawrence Auster
V.L.R.B!!
Look at the last paragraph, not exactly a landslide defeat of Phelps. Whats that say about the state?
http://www.365gay.com/newscon05/03/030205phelps.htm
Topeka, Kansas) The virulent anti-gay Fred Phelps clan was dealt a double blow in the group’s hometown Tuesday. Topeka voters rejected a bid to repeal the city’s gay rights ordinances and turned down an attempt by one of the clan leaders to gain a seat on city council currently held by a lesbian.
Phelps runs the Westboro Baptist Church which has been described by some authorities as a cult and operates the God Hates Fags website. The group, made up mostly of relatives of Phelps, routinely demonstrates at the funerals of AIDS victims.
They successfully managed to get enough signatures to force a vote on repealing two gay rights ordinances. One bans employment discrimination in city government on the basis of sexual orientation the other is hate crimes law.
The repeal bid failed 14,285 to 12,795. Had it passed it would have barred Topeka from reinstating such protections for 10 years.
