Are the KC Star and Wichita Eagle having a “tag team” attack on Kline?http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/2006/10/expanded_kline_.html#comments
The Eagle did quote Phill Kline correctly “I’m not” but what was the question? Listen to the video: “Are you intending to use this?” What does the word “intending” me? Do news reporters understand how dynamic a political campaign is?
The Kansas Press thinks it’s so terrible that Kline brings up this issue about Morrison, but what about the even older case Morrison is using against Bryan Brown, Kline’s “convict” (according to Morrison) who is serving as Director of Consumer Protection? When has the press reported that dozens and dozens of Kansas clergy were also arrested in protests at abortion clinics like Brown, which is the “crime” Brown committed?
Morrison is allowed to attack Kline for an old case, but Kline is not allowed to adjust strategy even if he did not intend to attack Morrison about Summerlin?
The Kansas Press is showing how truly biased they are. The Wichita Eagle cannot even find the story about Tiller’s ProKanDo PAC sharing a Wichita address with the “non-profit” group sending out “educational” Snoop Dog political pieces against Kline. (see http://www.kansasmeadowlark.com/2006/10-23/index.htm )
Why did it take the Lawrence Journal World to find this Wichita story? And even after the story was reported, the Eagle then publishes only this AP story, http://www.kansas.com/mld/kansas/news/state/15857818.htm: “TV, radio spots pulled; mailing linked to Tiller” [The Star's version of this AP story is here: http://www.kansasmeadowlark.com/2006/10-03/2002.htm
Why is the $153,000 figure the only one reported?
There is a HUGE political story from 2002 that is ignored. There is a HUGE poltiical money story from 2004 that is ignored. Why does the Kansas Press ignore political money if it comes from an abortion doctor in Wichita?
Dr. Tiller has perfected the process now in his “Snoop Dog” piece by making this an “educational” piece sent by a “non profit” exempt from campaign finance reporting.
Why do we even have campaign finance laws if one guy in Wichta can spend as much as he wants to affect Kansas politics, and the press ignores the story?
Meadowlark! I really like what you’re doing.
But you did forget to give out another fact of Pro-Kan-Do Pac. It is a Republican outfit (Moderate) I might add. And Dr. Tiller is a Republican from what I know.
The New York Times is reporting that corporations have recently started to give Democratic candidates a lot more money than previously, indicating that they are seeing some writing on the wall.

Quote to ponder in this divisive society:

During the time when religions are used to divide people, Balinese fused 2 great religions of that days to form Siva-Buddhism.
Anyone know any details about this?-

House Speaker-in-waiting Nancy Pelosi seems to get this joke, because with few exceptions she’s kept her Members tight-lipped and unspecific: As New York Senator Chuck Schumer has put it, why take the focus off the GOP?”

Good morning heckler.
AMERICA HELD HOSTAGE:DAY 2107
Presidency held hostage:815 Days left.
Congress held hostage:70 Days left.
HAVE A NICE DAY
Meadowpoop, you’re a whiney loser. How annoying.Kline’s going down, and all the whining in the state ain’t gonna stop that.BTW, how many hits ya’ get over there at superblog this week?10? 12? 64?
Thanks Tracy. You do the same.
btw, heckler. Maybe you can help me with something. We don’t have gun shows anywhere close here, and I was wondering what a couple of my guns would be worth. I’ve got a Browning Belgium made 12 gauge, and also a ww2 vintage Walthers 9mm handgun. What would a guy insure those for?
Tracy
I’d need a little more info. What kind of markings are on the Walther? ie. where was it made? How much of the original finish is intact? What condition is the bore in- any pitting? is the rifling in good shape?
What kind of actions is the Browning? Semi-auto? Same questions about condition as the Walther.
With that info I can get you a rough estimate.
Tracy
Look for model numbers. For example the Walther is probably a P38. Check for that.
Yes, it’s a P-38. In great shape, I’ve only shot it once. It’s got an eagle engraved on it that looks to be original. The Browning is a semi-auto gold trigger that my dad bought new probably fifty years ago.
A rough estimate is plenty good, that’s the best anyone could do without seeing them.
Tracy
“I’m no expert” on old guns so take this for what it’s worth. The thing about both those guns is that there were a lot of them made.So the value of them is not that high as a general rule. The bottom of the range for both would be about $400.But there are less common variations that are worth a lot more. They could be worth $1200 each. Without taking them to someone who is vary familiar with them it’s tough to say.
The other thing you could do is take the model numbers and serial numbers to a library or book store. Find a recent edition of the The Gun Bible (that’s actually the title of the book). You should be able to nail the value down pretty close from that. The range will vary depending on condition but you’ll be able to tell if you have a rare variation that’s in high demand with collectors.
Otherwise, insure each for $500.
Thanks Heck, I was guessing 500-700 for the shotgun, and maybe 400-500 for the pistol.Probably not too far out of line.Seeing as they’re not for sale, I probably don’t need to consult the bible. Thanks again.
“Tangled Web”
Wow, I’ve paid attention to some of the campaign shenanigans in the Allen/Webb senate race in Virginia but really didn’t know much about either candidate. This is a really interesting story about Webb(the Dem. candidate).
It may make you mad if you are a Democrat(correction, it WILL make you mad)(and not for the reasons you might expect) but it’s very interesting. Give it a try.
(Hell it may make you mad if you’re a Republican)

Sat AM — RE: Downtown Arena — Still debating with Shocker’07 and, to a lessor extent, with Mrage on thread entitled, “Still No Halloween for Arena Opening.” That thread is now about 2/3 of way down on this WE Blog. Hope all you bloggers will continue to add your comments, both positive (that it won’t be built) and negative (that it will be built.)
I think Shocker’07 might change his position before moving on to Denver. JWink
Sorry, the thread is titled,”Still No Headliner (not Halloween) for Arena Opening.” I must have been thinking the Downtown Arena will be a house of horrors when it opens and bleeds your tax money! Happy Halloween anyway. JWink
Heckler, I read the whole thing calmly.I say we let those east-coasters fight it out.We have our own mudslinging to do right here in good ol’ Kanass.
Tracy
It’s easy to fall into the rut of All Repubs are the same/All Dems are the same. Stories like this remind me to not make so many assumtions when you see a (D) or an (R) next to someones name.
Webb sounds like the kind of (D) I could actually vote for.
Yes heckler, once again we find some common ground.I have, and will vote for Repubs that champion the issues that are important to me and mine.Doesn’t happen often, but never say never.
Heckler,
Here’s a little more on the Allen/Webb situation.
“On Friday, Allen drew attention to sexually explicit excerpts from Webb’s novels from the past 30 years, arguing the words were demeaning to women. In response, Webb noted a 2000 book by Allen’s sister, Jennifer, that described her brother’s crude and brutish treatment of women.”

It’s hard to stop giggling, especially when it involves a man who has made more than his share of racist comments in the past.
“In Limbaugh’s world, “there never was a surplus” under President Clinton. AIDS “hasn’t made that jump to the heterosexual community,” and cutting food stamps is harmless because recipients “aren’t using them.” Two years ago, Limbaugh said the minimum wage was $6 or $7 an hour. Last year, he said gas was $1.29 a gallon.”
More fun reading about Rush …

The Beagle has endorsed TT for a return to Congress. They ignore his real record as a participant in this administrations continuing lies and rape of American and Kansas working people and the encouragement of the continuation of our dependence on foreign oil and the $9 Trillios dollar deficit this paper and administration continues to ignore. It is creating a legacy that betrays future generations.
They say he has knows how the political process in D.C works, if that is true he is a party to this administrations and the Republican Congress unparalleled corruption, crony capitalism and scandal; it is simply the way they do business. Tiahrts close ties to indicted Texan Tom Delay is the biggest example of how he believes the political process should work.
They don’t mention he has voted 4 times against any Congressional investigation into the waste fraud and abuse of several of the biggest contractors Halliburton / KBR, CaCI and others. Yet Todd in his arrogance proposed legislation to create a Congressional oversight of Government departments. He defends the allies of VP Cheney at the expense of tapayers and the safety of our troops.
Earlier this year he voted to approve an Emergency appropriations bill that REMOVED 2 BILLION dollars form the Military personnel budget.
His leadership on the House economic caucus and House jobs action team has consisted of writing a nine point “Letter to the Editor” expressing the views of this bought and paid for administration and encouraging the deportation of more jobs to foreign countries.
He came into office on the coat tails of the contract with America in 1994 that the Republican party quickly turned into the Contract with special interests and large corporations. He was in favor of term limits and now his term should be up.
The Eagle turns a blind eye to and endorses corruption, scandal and the lies of this administration and the Republican party.
Interesting article in the Washington Post about Foley and his interaction with pages.
How Foley Skirted Rules To Pursue Relationshipshttp://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/10/21/AR2006102101050.html
Good post roxanne. And don’t forget that Tankerless Todd sheltered him.
Eagle editors
For more than three weeks we have been asking you to hold Todd Tiahrt accountable to his constituents and respectful of our political traditions. We have asked you to demand that Tiahrt debate his democrat challenger Garth McGinn. We have asked for a thread to discuss Tiahrts contempt for his constituents.
We have received no response. None. We have received no explanation for the lack of response.
NOW comes your endorsement of Todd Tiahrt for a seventh failed term as our representative to the US House.
With this, the credibility and journalistic integrity of the editors, management, and ownership of the Wichita Eagle has finally and completely disappeared. I have cancelled my subscription.
I call on all readers of this to do the same. Indeed it may be time for WEbloggers to begin looking for a more credible and respectable source for our forum……….
JR, that endorsement can be charitably viewed as the intersection of convenience and cowardice. It’s hard to imagine a more embarassingly incompetent, corrupt, and ideologically extreme rep for Kansas than Tiahrt, but, hey, he’s got seniority. And who is this McGinn guy again?
That, and the lazy propensity to go with the winner, and presumed popular sentiment. Why upset the applecart?
Did anyone really doubt they would do otherwise? (Oh, right, “liberal media”. .).
But Tiarht’s seniority will very likely disappear next year, removing the only defensible reason for the endorsement in the first place.
Well, okay, not “disappear.” But be of considerably less significance.
I call it disgraceful and negligent that the Eagle will not even expect Tiahrt to debate McGinn.
Rage you make an interesting point.
What the Eagle is NOT telling its readers is that if the Democrats take control of the House, Tiahrt will be shoved off in a little corner of that House somewhere to rot. He will be completley unable to work for even the few constituents he pretends to represent. McGinn on the other hand would likely be given an important committee position and have a strong voice in the House for Kansas.
Well, I see that we get to vote, on whether CBS comes into Wichita, to do an interview on the “Sit down” at Dockum Drugstore, back in the late 50’s.
Problem is, there’s no place to cast your vote! Now I don’t care but,IF, it happened in the fifties, WHY is it so all fire important?
Do we really feel, it’s so important, to cater to the Black Community? The Community, with 12% of the population of this community, that constituutes 85-90% of the problems?
James, World War 2 happened in the forties.
Is that not important to you?
Kansas is a free state. As bad as we are, we’ve never had the deeply ingrained racism of a lot of other places (and I include Skokie, Illinois in that).
What you call “catering to the black community” I call remembering American history.
As an American, I feel that is important.
As for your contention that blacks constitute the vast majority of the “problems,” whatever that means, f*ck you.
I mean f*ck YOU.
Not only is that not true, anybody with an ounce of brains knows that it is not true.
Well, lookie here–when voters punch for Dems, the Reps vote pops up on electronic machines in Florida.
Who would have ever guessed THAT would happen?
“Debra A. Reed voted with her boss on Wednesday at African-American Research Library and Cultural Center near Fort Lauderdale. Her vote went smoothly, but boss Gary Rudolf called her over to look at what was happening on his machine. He touched the screen for gubernatorial candidate Jim Davis, a Democrat, but the review screen repeatedly registered the Republican, Charlie Crist.
“A poll worker then helped Rudolf, but it took three tries to get it right, Reed said.
”I’m shocked because I really want . . . to trust that the issues with irregularities with voting machines have been resolved,” said Reed, a paralegal. “It worries me because the races are so close.”
. . .
Joan Marek, 60, a Democrat from Hollywood, was also stunned to see Charlie Crist on her ballot review page after voting on Thursday. ”Am I on the voting screen again?” she wondered. “Well, this is too weird.”
“Mauricio Raponi wanted to vote for Democrats across the board at the Lemon City Library in Miami on Thursday. But each time he hit the button next to the candidate, the Republican choice showed up. Raponi, 53, persevered until the machine worked. Then he alerted a poll worker.”
http://www.miami.com/mld/miamiherald/news/state/15869924.htm
I’m sure the fact that all the erroneous votes hurt Dems and helped Repubs was pure coincidence. Nothing to see here. Move along, folks.
The day of reckoning is coming for these animals and for the guilt-ridden, self-hating White lunatics who have excused and enabled them!
From the desk of Filip van Laenen
These last few days, there have been some “small fires” – small indeed – in the Brussels area, but today the fire brigade was lured into an ambush in Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. There were no casualties, but apparently we’ll have to see a few dead before it will be possible to reflect seriously on what’s really going on in Brussels. Authorities didn’t want to confirm a connection to the fires in Paris, but didn’t dare to deny it either.
From the events of today and the last few days it is clear that things are getting out of control in some parts of Brussels. When even the fire brigade becomes the target of these “youngsters,” as they are usually called in the Belgian press, the conclusion can only be that it’s already five past twelve, not only in Paris, but in Brussels too.
Surely, one can argue that the identity checks by the police are not always completely justified, and sometimes too frequent, but I find it hard to believe that the immigrants could have any reason at all to throw rocks at firemen who are just trying to do their job. If this continues, people will die sooner or later, and then the fire brigade’s latent racism will of course be blamed for not having gotten some Moroccan family out of its burning house quickly enough, or extinguished the fire in an apartment block, or something else that went terribly wrong. Therefore, sociologists and other professional anti-racists, otherwise always keen enough to give us their opinion about what’s going wrong in the immigrant districts, should give us their explanation rather today than tomorrow about what the fire brigade has done to deserve being targeted like it was this afternoon, and why youngster are allowed to play with other people’s lives like this.
