North Korean sanctions a start

width=”100″ height=”122″ border=”0″ title=”Nkoreabolton_1″ alt=”Nkoreabolton_1″ src=”http://blogs.kansas.com/weblog/files/images/nkoreabolton_1.jpg” /> The United Nations sanctions against North Korea for its recent nuclear test won’t bring dictator Kim Jong Il to his knees anytime soon. Some of the measures, such as cutting off luxury goods (whiskey, expensive cars, etc.) to the leadership elite, aren’t likely to be more than a nuisance.
But the sanctions were still worth doing, because they send a political message that the world is united in opposing North Korea’s nuclear ambitions and is willing to work together to further isolate the rogue nation.
On that point, it was a good sign Monday that China — a question mark on sanctions enforcement — was inspectingcargo bound for the North. But the international community must be prepared to ratchet up the pressure further if it wants North Korea to return to the bargaining table.

Here’s one source you’ll never see quoted in The Eagle–”Think Progress”:

Chris Wallace Ignores 20,000 Emails Demanding He Ask Rice About The U.S.S. Cole

More than 20,000 people emailed Chris Wallace and demanded he ask Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice this question today:

Prior to 9/11, you had eight months to respond to the al-Qaeda attack on the U.S.S. Cole. Why didn’t the Bush administration take action and put al-Qaeda out of business?

Wallace didn’t ask the question or any question on the topic. It’s the twenty-fourth time Rice has been on Fox News Sunday since 9/11 without being asked about the U.S.S. Cole.

Last month, Fox’s Chris Wallace asked President Clinton why he didn’t respond to the Oct. 12, 2000 bombing of the U.S.S. Cole. He asked the question even though the “CIA and the FBI refused to certify that Bin Laden was responsible” until early 2001, which foreclosed the possibility of a full response during the Clinton administration.

Wallace claimed he asked the question of Clinton because “I got a lot of e-mail from viewers.”

This website has an agenda. Nothing wrong with that, except it’s no good for citing. You might as well use Daily Kos. Crap, Crap, Crap

    Capn America,

The USS Cole response in a North Korean sanctions blog?

Besides, that question has been asked and answered long ago, pay attention!

President Bush said he didn’t want to respond to Bin Laden’s attacks 1 on 1 because it would (1)be what he was expecting (2)be what bin laden wish to happen (3)the attacked was dealt when a cruise missle destroyed two of the planners, several more were arrested.

I Suppose Chris Wallace knew this as well and wondered about the 20,000 idiots that sent emails demanding a question be answered by Rice that had already been asked and answered.

Ben–I have seen Nat Review blasted as right wing on this blog. I don’t know if they or NewsMax is, but if they are, they don’t count either. It would be like sending people to Limbaugh’s website. Doesn’t count. If one is trying to prove a point, use a legitimate news bureau.

Why bother asking Condi Rice about the USS Cole – she will just go through her talking points like usual. Nothing would be gained by asking her anything of any substance.

Oh yeah, the sanctions should work wonders, you bet.

What’s that? Oil for food? NEVER HEARD OF IT!

I find it funny that this administration is now looking to the UN for support on this issue, when it pretty much “flipped the bird” to the organization 3 1/2 years ago in it’s dealings with Iraq. Come to think of it, they pretty much gave the citizens of this country the finger too, didn’t they.

Why would a man, born with a silver spoon decide to make a bed out of manure? I guess he was only thinking about the food, and not where he was eventually going to have to lay his head.

Did you see the video where the North Korean ambassador to the UN walked out during the six party talks? Kinda like Nikita Kruschev slamming his shoe on the table!

    What a sore loser
