Rep. Jerry Moran, R-Hays, mostly votes like the good Republican that he is. But let the record show that last week he was one of 13 Republicans to vote against the bill granting legal status to warrantless wiretapping and one of only seven Republicans to vote against the bill allowing the use of military tribunals to try terror suspects. The rest of the Kansas delegation, including Rep. Dennis Moore, D-Lenexa, voted for the tribunals bill. (The wiretapping bill has yet to clear the Senate.) The Harris News Service was unable to get Moran or his office to explain his votes. But Chapman Rackaway, an assistant political science professor at Fort Hays State University, said the votes show that Moran is “not afraid to vote against his own party when he thinks it’s not in the interest of the folks back in his district.”

Bout time this opened up.
And at the risk of saying something nice about a republican….
Moran also stood against the white house on the disasterous medicare drug bill. He got lots of pressure and punishment from his own party on that one. Yet… he did what was right for his mostly elderly constituents. In hindsight, we see what a bad idea medicare part D was. Jerry was right to vote against it.
Maybe Jerry just has better political instincts than most. Maybe he smelled the iceberg this titanic administration was heading towards.
Funny. And Jerry refused to give permission for that titanic from stopping to take on more ice?
heheheheheheheheh
Now if he would just quit kissing up to the religious right….
Moran is a good man. I am not sure about his religious/culture views but I hope he’ll model himself in the mold of Bob Dole who simply did not talk about peoples private lives and religious differences. Moran could bring back some decency to the Republican party…as long as he is not banging the pages.I am a life long democrat but I like Jerry Moran.
I don’t know anything about medicare D except my mom a devout democrat bush hater loves it. Warrantless wiretapping is a no brainer considering the quick pace of technology and islamic facists desire to use WMD against America. Why anyone would want to give every terrorist access to an American court of law is beyond comprehension. It may be a nice fuzzy thought that makes liberals feel good at night but in the real world it is not a policy that has been tried and tested for success so much so that it is included in the book Great Military Strategies, or How To Win a War.
“I hope he’ll model himself in the mold of Bob Dole who simply did not talk about peoples private lives and religious differences.”
Too late. He spent all of 2004 talking about the evils of gay marriage and how the federal hate amendement “just makes good sense”.
He is a republican after all. He cant help but pucker up anytime the religious right says “kiss our lily white, rose smelling asses”.
Sorry. He didnt just vote for the hate amendment, he actively preached about it and actively supported it.
I can only hope to live long enough where that kind of blatant bigotry is viewed in the same light as being a slave owner.
But then, this is kansas, the home of the ayatollahs terry, joe and fred.
What else should we expect?
Seventy percent of kansans agree with moran’s brand of gay bashing. He reflects the majority “values” of the state.
terry, joe and fred must be so proud….
“Why anyone would want to give every terrorist access to an American court of law is beyond comprehension.”
Uh, how about american citizens?
WE are the ones who lost the right of habeas corpus. WE are the ones who lost the right to due process. WE are the ones watching the constitution being dismantled piece by piece.
Why do you want the terrorists to win?
“Great Military Strategies, or How To Win a War”
hee hee hee hee hee
I think you need to buy a copy of that for the little furher, rummy, cheney, condi.
It seems to be the two books they DIDNT READ.
BTW, how is your little war over their going? I think they really need your copy of “how to win a war”.

Since Moran has proven himself to be one of the few Republicans with values can we get him to run against Brownback, the hypocrite who preaches about how he has morals and values but votes otherwise? It’d be one of the very few times I’d actually vote Republican.
Gee Doug, if it was a statewide election maybe.
But in a republican primary, jerry could NEVER win against brownback, the hypocrit in chief of the kansas congress critters.
You think the kansas republicans WANT an honest person in that seat, or do you think they prefer a values shill?
Hmmm. Let’s go to the scoreboard…
A terrorist is a terrorist regardless of citizenship…people who want to destroy this country do not deserve to be given the protections that our constitution allows.
There is no logical obligation to provide terrorists with the very rights they despise. To force them to endure our legal system seems almost immoral given their disdain for our form of government.
Terrorists sympathizers do not stand on the constitution but purely on politics.
I don’t see how anyone can be supporting of an assigned political classification. One of the things I dislike about politics is the way people wanting to give a name to a party such as republican, democrat, liberal and then what ever else comes around.None of these today politicians have ever represented the true definition of these political parties’ names and I doubt the days of the old solid representation of a party will ever be happening again.Politics is not about a parties’ name, it is about making the right decisions for the best interests of the people.Whenever a person is running as a republican but then is voting as a democrat but thinks and talks like a liberal, right immediately that person is targeted and criticized or worst. It would be nice for a change to have someone that would run for a political office as just a person with knowledge, understanding and just common sense judgment.People just don’t seem to have any sense of individual identity, so let’s just get rid of the assigned political classification system and concentrate on the person decision making abilities.

First thing you have to do is Know the person’s a terrorist, not just a suspect someone’s pointed a finger at, or someone you rounded up off the street. If they are just an enemy combatant, the should be treated like a pow, and not subjected to torture. Odds are the don’t know anything, but would tell or admit to anything under torture. The way republicans throw the term terrorist around, anyone that “isn’t with us, is against us” is pretty much their definition.
I am sorry you are losing your rights ksfarmgrrl, guess you shouldn’t have associated with jihadists. The president cannot worry about your “right to associate with terrorists”, he has a responsibility to protect all of us from harm as well as consider our individual rights. You may not like the way he is doing it. I think he should be more vigilant in many areas. However to claim you are being harmed by his actions is in no way proveable. When the jihadist are successful in recruiting people such as yourself you may have a point.
