Is Dubai port deal the best Tiahrt can do?

One television commercial for Rep. Todd Tiahrt, R-Goddard, recounts how he disagreed with President Bush earlier this year on the Dubai port deal. It would seem that the purpose of the commercial is either to distance Tiahrt a bit from a struggling president or to counter criticism that he is a GOP soldier who does whatever the president orders.
If it’s the former, Bush must really be radioactive if a long-term congressman from a red state who is facing a little-known opponent feels the need to separate himself from Bush. If it’s the latter, is the Dubai deal — which was nearly universally condemned in this country — the biggest disagreement Tiahrt can come up with?

Somebody should tell ol’ Todd that Dubai did buy the ports.

Tiahrt was silent on a vast number of issues, or just happily applied his rubber stamp. He approved of rape, torture, removal of habeus corpus, increasing the debt to 9 trillion, a pointless missle defense system, no bid contracts for Iraq reconstruction, warrentless wiretaps, government muzzling of free speech, happily accepted over $300,000 from oil companies, voted against minimum wage increases, voted for tax cuts for Paris Hilton, voted to increase the nation’s deficit, voted for an unncessary invasion and occupation of Iraq, voted against net neutrality, voted for increased air pollution, voted for higher costs of prescription drugs, voted for taxpayer funding of religious education, voted to eliminate social security and a host of other issues that Bush ordered Tiahrt to rubber stamp.

Yeah, Tiahrt can’t find much to brag about since he is clearly Bush’s lapdog and does his bidding, and doesn’t fight for the best interests of Kansans.

PFR, have you ever come across a rattlesnake? I have twice. Walk carefully when you are in its territory, if you encounter one, step back, let it do its own thing, and it won’t bite you.

How many times have you been stung by bees and wasps? I have many times. It would have been nice if my immune system learned to accomodate them. Unfortunately, it reacted the wrong way, and the last two times I had an anaphylactic reaction. I felt like my life might be over. I didn’t feel fear exactly, more deep regret that I hadn’t done more right, and less wrong.

But bees and wasps weren’t evil. I accidentally invaded their territory. They felt threatened by me. It’s the same with Arabs. If America gets out of their face, they won’t attack America.

Moran is no better than Tiahrt. Moran votes along party lines 93% of the time. Keep that in mind.

So he votes against them when it’s extremely unpopular, so what?VOTE FOR JOHN DOLL!

I thought it was hillarious to see Tiahrts commercial- I actually laughed out loud. IS that the best you can do- dead on Eagle, that’s exactly what I thought. Along with “everyone is bailing on the president”.

A defeat for Tiahrt would send a shockwave through Washington and the Republican party. For both, Kansas is a no-brainer as to the seat in Congress. For Tiahrt to lose that seat would be a death knoll for the Republican control. Do not get me wrong, I know that the party has abandoned those in it long ago and has little resemblance to the party that I join long ago. They have betrayed not only what made the party great but the country as well. But still I do hate to lose the promise of what the party could have done. What if they had held to the core of the party’s believes and the true values of the country. But the party was lost to the extremists of differing thoughts and motives, who cared more for their own agenda than they did for America.

Now I find myself hoping for the change, I will not vote for Tiahrt. From the first time I heard of him, I had thought he was someone that I could support. Long ago, I was working my second shift job and had the radio on. Tiahrt, then running to unseat Glickman was being interviewed on 1330 A.M. and a woman called in. She asked of Tiahrt a pointed and quite loaded question: Had he taken illegal drugs in college, (even naming the college) at first he did try to dance a bit. But then admitted he did smoke grass during his college days. I am from the generation he belongs to and if he had denied the use I would not have believed him.

But now I have no faith in him, as I mentioned before I have met him and found him to be a endearing speaker. But left feeling that no matter what the topic or side you are on, he seemed to agree with you.except that if he was speaking to someone that held a different opinion on the subject he seem to agree with them too. Showing he was attuned to speaking from both sides of his mouth.

No, he is covered with the stench of the administration and deserves no better fate them they do.The Republican party will raise again, but for now we need to be torn apart and rebuild to more resemble the greatness that had made America strong. Until then we must suffer a overwhelming defeat for the good of the country we love.

Actually, I think Tihart was wrong to vote against the ports deal. There was nothing wrong with Dubai Ports World buying a few facilities (not the entire port as commonly phrased) at several ports.

The protectionist and fear campaign against having an Arabic Company own a few facilities was a slap in the face of our market system. So Tiahrt was wrong, in my opinion.

But Tiahrt is sponsering the Fair Tax Bill, and that is the most important issue for me now. So he will get my vote.

Is that not inviting terrorists to come through our ports? Or is the real reason the Republicans are so willing to give our ports over to foreigners is for the almighty dollar – the God the Republicans really worship?

Interesting thought..but about as far off base as imaginable. They have made it clear their intent is to kill as many ‘non-believers’ as they can. Period.

So..we are “in their face” by not being Islamic. We are “in their face” by not following their religion. As such, they will continue their cowardy attacks on innocent people.

The written sentiments displayed by the Islamic radicals (”convert or die”) suggests that even if we were to ’stay out of their face’ they would still attack.

Hatred of all things not Islamic leads to killing…whether we are “in their face” or not.

Tiahrt is right on the money. The most pressing issue of the day is who controls the ports in this nation. Social security, health care, the war in Iraq, the environment, these are petty issues, the real issue is the port sale.

Tiahrt is proving how he is in touch with the needs and desires of the people of Kansas. So when it comes to looking for leadership on the most pressing issue of port control look to Tiahrt, however the other “minor” issues are too beneath Tiahrt to be bothered with, leave those issues to McGinn.

But Ian, Tiahrt supports NAFTA which flooded the Mexican market with subsidized American produce forcing Mexican farmers out of work. So they came up to America looking for work. Posted October 10, 2006 at 8:16 pm | Permalink

Doug,Not necessarily. Don’t forget the outwardly corrupt and racist Mexican government which discriminates against mestizo and indigenous Mexicans. The Mexican government knows that exporting illegal Mexicans to the US turns out in their favor: first, because those illegals in the US send US DOLLARS into Mexico (this is Mexico’s second largest source of income btw) second, the racist Mexican government doesn’t want their indigenous unskilled workers anyway. The Mexican government is responsible for the poverty in Mexico, just as the Mexican military is responsible for taking bribes from Colombian drug lords turning a blind eye, and even aiding illicit drug shipments to this country.

THAT IS WHY THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT AND MILITARY DO NOT WANT US TO CLOSE OUR BORDERS! PERIOD.

Why isn’t Todd braggig about how U.S. Senator Pat Roberts and himself saved the flying mission of the 184th ANG. They announced “the intention of the U.S. Air Force to transfer a fighter training mission to the Air National Guard at McConnell Air Force Base. The Air Force is expected to announce the transfer of at least one squadron of T-38’s from Moody Air Force Base in Georgia to the Kansas Air Guard. T-38’s are a critical component of the Air Force’s fighter training program.Senator Roberts said, “The Kansas Air National Guard has a rich tradition in flying missions critical to our national security. The BRAC 2006 decisions transferred the fleet of Air Guard tankers at McConnell up the road to Forbes Air Field in Topeka. Since then, Congressman Tiahrt and I have worked tirelessly to bring a new flying mission home to the Kansas Air Guard. This decision by the Air Force illustrates what Todd and I already know ‚Äì that the men and women of the Kansas Air National Guard are some of the best airmen in the force.”‚”We are pleased our efforts have resulted in a continued air presence for the “Flying Jayhawks” of the 184th,” said Tiahrt. “Senator Roberts and I strongly urge Governor Sebelius to accept this new mission on behalf of the Kansas Air National Guard.”Representative Tiahrt is a senior member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. Senator Roberts is a senior member of the Senate Armed Services Committee”. Guess what, he lied, there is not T-38 mission for Kansas and in fact there is no flying mission for the 184th KANG. They are out of the flying business.

He will be able to buy his election, and I guess the christian conservative phone tree will be busy the week before the election. Kansas has pretty much escaped any fallout from the Foley carnivale’ and I don’t think the Kansas conservative base will blame Todd for anything — so where is the scandal — What can we do to motivate the true silent majority, the independent thinkers, to start pleading any case to unseat Todd — and are his opponents worth the effort. His close ties to Delay may be his Achilles heel, if anyone can develop a way to exploit it.

McGinn is TOTALLY outgunned. Tiahrts war chest is deep.

That said McGinn does not even seem to be trying. I’ll help him a bit with some questions he should ask Mr Tiarht.

Todd Tiahrt originally ran and signed a pledge to limit congressional terms in office. That was 6 terms and 12 years ago…..

Mr. Tiahrt? If you do not hold to your original commitment, how is it that we should trust you?

Know who else sighned that pledge about term limits? Well among MANY Republican hypocites was the now known child predator Mark Foley! Mr Foley and Mr Tiahrt have served on many commitees and boards of arch conservative organizations together. But Todd will not tell his constituents if he had any knowledge of Mark Foley’s despicable private life. In fact, Todd has not commented on this scandal since it broke. What little he does have to say blames “process” and does not mention Foley at all. Why is that?

Mark Foley ALSO had a substantial war chest. Now Todd was already well endowed financially. And we should wonder if lobbyist Jack Abramoff might have something to do with that. But what has become of money that was meant to elect Foley? Mr Tiahrt?

Our forum is the most read in Kansas and one of the most read newspaper based forums in the nation. I invite both Mr Tiahrt and Mr. McGinn here. This may be the only way the public has a chance to hear from them. It may be the only way I or many of his constituents can EVER hear from Mr Tiahrt. I have written Mr. Tiahrt multiple emails. To date I get only form responses. I hear that is the case for many of the less well heeled among Mr. Tiahrts constituents.

H.W. Bush and Cheney (Sec’ry of Defense) knew that, but they put permanent bases there anyway.

Terrorists don’t kill themselves because we’re Christian or because we’re free.

They kill us because we occupy their country.

A short clip of GWB chuckling gleefully at a reporters question of why there was no investigation was revolting. One of the consensus of the viewers was that what was missing were protests from college campuses (what contributed to the ending of the Viet Nam conflict) — and the big difference was a current lack of the draft (that spawned the earlier protests) — some of us older folks think it might be a good idea to bring back some form of draft, with a community service option. Maybe the college campuses will be more vocal — they are going to inherit the after effects of the mess this administration has created. My kids are out of luck, I’m spending their inheritance.
