Iraq victory party has been postponed

The Bush administration has been accused of a lot of poor planning in Iraq, but nobody can say Congress has been remiss in party preparations: The military spending bill for this past year contained $20 million “for commemoration of success” in Iraq and Afghanistan.
As the New York Times reports, the original legislation empowered the president to designate “a day of celebration” for when the wars were finally won.
While the idea of a victory party now seems like almost psychopathic optimism, a paragraph written into spending legislation allows the $20 million to be rolled over into 2007.
Well, maybe. But I wouldn’t rent that tux just yet.

“$20 million “for commemoration of success””

Maybe they could use it to purchase headstones.

Boy. That just says it all, doesn’t it?

Who could vote for these pukes?

Perhaps this is Bush’s latest “strategery” to have a big party and get the Iraqis drunk. Problem is Muslims don’t drink. Or I could be wrong, it could just be 20 million for Bush to blow on coke and booze.

Just when I think the idiot bush can’t surprise me anymore…..

Ok, does that 20 million include the little “Mission Accomplished” flight suit stunt? Or was that like the pre-party.

20 million for “commemoration of success”? bush gets to name a day to celebrate victory?

    How about May 37th?

I agree, who wants to vote for the pukes. But what choice do we really have though, I mean who wants to vote for a bunch of fudge packers, know what I mean!

Wonder what would happen if more independents choose to run in 2008? Maybe this the time for some moderate politicians who are not partisan to start thinking about breaking away from either party?

Saw on the news the Medini Army has control over the hospitals and morgues. When one Sunni went to claim the body of a relative, they asked him if he knew who killed him, he said yes, and was promptly shot.”Let Freedom Reign” GWB.

    Dave,

I was not sure I’d ever heard of “psychopatic optimism” — I thought, would that be like a con having confidence he could rob that liquor store? Then it dawned on me, that was a very apt term.

At first I LOL when I read this, just another example of how the administration totally misunderstood what they were doing with the invasion. Then I fell silent, thinking of all those who had welcome home parties plan for when a loved one would come home from Afghanistan and Iraq.

I believe the funds were to honor the military and all those federal and non federal employees who took part in rebuilding Iraq.

My nephew is about have his third tour over there. I do believe the country owes him a big party when he returns, along with his military buddies.

Instead of a $20 million dollar party when the war is over – how about some winning srategy from our beloved Commander in Chief?

And while we are at it, give the military their pay raise that was budgeted and not reduced to save a lousy few dollars.

Some thing long over due, maybe a celebration for those who served in Vietnam? They too served in a war that the majority of Americans opposed. But unlike those serving in Iraq, this nation will not make the same mistake of not separating the warrior from the war. Until that day when we greet those who served their country in Vietnam. I hope that a warm hand shake and a heartfelt “Welcome home… Job well done” will do. From one who truly feels honor to meet those who did their duty in not just Vietnam but all wars.God bless you all!

Good idea writerdog. I try to clearly delineate between the soldiers and their leaders. Blessings upon the troops; a pox upon RumNamara.

We should all celebrate anyway. Cheney said the insurgents were in their last throws and this occupation was going to last a few weeks anyway. The Iraqis are probably upset because they were going to greet us with flowers and candy but just didn’t have the money to do so.

They would have celebrated with WMD but everyone already knew they didn’t have any.
