Brickbat for Brownback over judicial nomination

A Washington Post editorial headlined “Sen. Brownback’s Litmus Test” examined what it is about Judge Janet T. Neff that has Kansas’ senior senator holding up her nomination by President Bush to the federal bench in Michigan: “Judge Neff, it turns out, once attended a commitment ceremony for a lesbian couple — and that has Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback (R) reaching for the smelling salts and blocking the nomination.” In urging Brownback to back off, the editorial aptly noted that a commitment ceremony is not a marriage, and said that Neff has told Brownback she did not preside at the occasion. So “keeping Judge Neff off the federal bench over such a matter is perilously close to declaring her unfit to serve because she has lesbian friends.”

I think maybe Sam Brownback is doing this for publicity to make his name known throughout the GOP party and the Religious Right voters.

He is wanting to run for president in 2008 and his main problem is name recognition. What better way to get his name on national news than to hold up a federal judge from being appointed?

Brownback shouldn’t be taken too seriously.

    Like I have said before:

I bet if this judge had attended a pro life march the democrats would be doing nothing short of tearing themselves apart in a frothy rage over this judges nomination.

Nathan,The Judge said she did not preside over the ceremony. Case closed. Brownback will be nothing more than a Kansas wingnut both nationally and in this state. This is his history. He is holding up a judge who told him personally that she did not do what he thinks she did. Uhhh…what more is there? She’s a judge!!! He’s a lunatic. She has credibility; he has no chance of reelection in a few more years. Down with the religious right!!!

Senator Sam Brownback should be careful because what goes around comes around. He has that office at the will of Kansas voter not religeous right. I hope he will understand that he is representing all Kansas voters.

I believe it was a concern on Brownback’s part that the Judge might try to legislate from the bench if she supports certain ideas that are inconsistent or contrary to current law.

All the Judge has to do is write a letter explaining her position on the so-called committment ceremony and I’m sure all would be cleared up. Unless that is, the Judge would likely legislate from the bench and is reluctant to let the Senate know her actual views.

    Something to hide maybe?

Homosexuals should not be judges or politicians. Obviously homosexuals cannot control themselves, just look at those parades they have, they look so queer.

And here’s the kill shot to the groin.

    KA-POW!

Wow, if he had any balls, that would’ve hurt . . . lucky for him, he doesn’t.

So if this judge had attended a pro-life event, Sam Brownback would be more than happy to approve her appointment?

Brownback is playing to the Religious Right, which of course will eat this up like its candy. I’ve not seen a Radical Right-wing nutjob that doesn’t love a good fight over a homosexual.

If this judge had attended a pro-life event, you can bet that Democratic Senators would be starting the stalling process to prevent the nomination.

I find any legislation from the bench distasteful and should be impeachable.

Suza, you evidently don’t live in reality, or are uneducated. Why do we have judges? One reason is that our representatives love to pass laws that discriminate, take away our freedom, and are not consistent with the Constitution. In case you haven’t noticed, every judgement a judge makes affects the law, it either upholds the law or finds that the law has a conflict with the constitution. So, every Judge, in that context, is legislating from the bench! Brownback just doesn’t like some of the rulings. You can bet, if the rulings were in his favor, i.e. outlawing abortion, he would have NO problem with “legislating from the bench”! Hypocrite!

And Pickles Bush aka laura was standing their watching his gay love hold the bible while condi swore him in?

I bet brownieback is in a froth over Condi presiding over that swearing in too, but he can only manage one wingnut talking point at a time….

Tracy-Baby’s fat and sassy. Doing her job; eating, pooping and sleeping. She’s gained 2 pounds and grew 1 inch in the first month. She’s looking more like her sister everyday. Only difference is slightly darker hair. Thanks for asking.

Thats funny Sam has such a problem with that. He sends who kids to a private liberal school in Topeka where I can tell you most everyone there is pro-gay. It’s funny a politician will say and do anything for a vote.
