Barbra Streisand has gone nuts

You’ve probably heard about Barbra Streisand’s outburst during a concert this week. Trying to create something akin to a “Saturday Night Live” skit, she did an extended spoof on George W. Bush that was reportedly only mildly amusing. When one restless heckler complained, the legendary liberal screamed, “Shut the **** up! Shut up if you can’t take a joke!”
That prompted David Letterman Wednesday night to do a "Top 10 signs that Barbra Streisand has gone nuts." Two of the signs: "At the conclusion of ‘The Way We Were,’ bites off head of a bat;" and "Recently invited Mel Gibson to come over to watch ‘Yentl.’"

No doubt her anti-depressant,anti-psychotic drugs wore off at the very moment the critic complained. Either that or the bottle of hootch was too far from the stage to get a hold of and the result was the inability to handle reality.

Was it a concert or a campaign fundraiser?

At least she didn’t have him arrested and jailed like Cheney did.

Her ability to sing does not make her a political expert. If I were to go her concert, it would be to be entertained, not to hear her political views.

Hollywood types…they make a few gazillion dollars, and they start to think they are smart. Sort of like the song from “Fiddler on the Roof”…”when you are rich, they think you really know…” (If I were a rich man..)

Good on Barbara. The story does not say what happened to the heckler. One hopes he or she was uh, helped away from the area.

Barbra has more than earned the right to do whatever she pleases on stage! And those of you who were able to buy tickets and see her in person should be thrilled to have shared the company of such an outstanding artist. You still got your money’s worth, having been able to hear (in person)one of the most unique and beautiful singing voices that a human could be blessed with! My sister saw Barbra in concert last night in NY, and Sis told me she felt like Moses coming down from the mountain when she left Madison Square Garden. Kudos to Barbra… the woman is class, elegance and talent personified!

-Please keep the biblical accolades to Jews who actually support the promisedland. Most Jews it would seem anymore are more socially Jewish than spiritually. I think it’s sad.

-Class and elegance. Where does the F word fit in that.

If the F word does fit into class and elegance – then Dick Cheney must not be in the class either. And he used it on the floor of Congress!

Barbara Streisand is a singer. Anyone that knows of her knows her politics. If you don’t like her politics then don’t buy one of her tickets for her show.

This is just another case of the Repulblicans can dish it out but they can’t take it – much like their beloved leaders.

Seems Babs prefers politicians who were so preoccupied with blow jobs that they didn’t go get Bin Laden when they had the chance. You don’t have to love Bush to see where her priorities lie.

I use the F-word far too often. I’m a Christian and Republican. My liberal (non politically speaking) use of the F-word is a personal fault.I wouldn’t expect to be classified as classy nor would I Cheney or anyone who uses it in front of 20,000 people. It’s crude and it’s crass. It doesn’t make Barbra (see I can spell it) a bad person. I just wouldn’t call her classy.

Has anyone ever thought this was a made-up stunt to get publicity or to get the GOP’s undies in a bunch?

  22. Posted October 13, 2006 at 11:12 am | Permalink

When a Democrat screams at somebody it makes news because it’s an unusual event. When a Republican does it it doesn’t make news, because it’s typical behavior that is expected.

Republicans, where crazy is the status quo.

Barbara needs to keep her political views to herself. People paid to here her sing not listen to her pop off about politics. Barbara needs to have a bit more respect for our president. I would love to see her in Bush’s shoes, she would fail miserably do to to her idiotic Liberal views.

I am not a huge fan of Barbra Streisand, but if I want to hear her sing, I’ll put on a CD. I certainly wouldn’t want to pay $700 per ticket to hear her spout off about politics.

I am soooo tired of people using their celebrity status as a license to share their political views with the rest of us. … like we care what they think!

Barbra, you’re an singer — not a politician!!

  29. Posted October 16, 2006 at 12:02 am | Permalink

I kinda wish the Republicans would keep their celebrities from becoming politicians. Some examples include Ronald Reagan, Sonny Bono, Steve Largent, Arnold Swarzenegger, Jim Bunning, Fred Gandy, Jack Kemp, George Murphy, Richard Petty, Fred Thompson, JC Watts, Roy Acuff, Wilmer Mizell, Tom Osborne, and of course Kansas’ own Jim Ryun.

Being an actor, sports figure or whatever is just a job so why should they not have the right to express political opinions? Why not say farmers can’t have opinons or attorneys? What’s the difference? It’s a non-issue.

P.S. I didn’t think this thread was even worthy of attention, but now I see. Sigh. . .

Let’s leave aside actual elected politicians. . .

Irving Berlin. Woody Guthrie. John Lennon. Frank Zappa. Merle Haggard. John Prine. Willie Nelson. Hank Wiliams Jr. Ted Nugent. John Lydon. Jello Biafra. John Mellencamp. David Lowry. Bono. Thurston Moore. ChuckD. Marilyn Manson. Natalie Mains. Toby Keith. Eminem.

A tiny, tiny percentage, off the top of my head, of the artists who have been openly political, on and off stage (like there’s something wrong with that!).

Get a brain and a life, people, in that order. You are indisputably in serious need of both.

Fact: Singers can be political. She dated the most popular Canadian Prime Minister in History, so you know she has political aspirations. Accept Barbra for who she is, enjoy her music and her singing and move on. If you don’t like her, then don’t listen to her. I think it is disrespectful to heckle the queen at her own show. the “F” word might have been rude and out of place, but that’s who she is. It might have been fitting, depending on the attitude of the heckler. Swearing doesn’t make you a bad person, or a bad singer. Did Bob Dylan ever swear? If done correctly, it can be very poetic.
