Sebelius hits a speed bump

So far, Gov. Kathleen Sebelius’ re-election campaign seems to be enjoying smooth sailing, but it did hit some turbulence Wednesday morning — literally.
The governor told The Eagle editorial board that her official plane had been heading down a Topeka runway for takeoff when it hit a flock of seagulls. The plane had to taxi back to the terminal for inspection.
No one was hurt, thankfully, but the seagulls didn’t make it.

    It’s a Republican conspiracy. ;)

On a side note: Barnett has begun his television ads.

Seagulls? In Kansas? Where are the beachfront properties? :)

    Hey Joe,

What did u think of Barnett’s ads’? A bit attackatory don’t u think?

I love how they attack her on subjects that a majority of people supported her on and/or she was “required” to veto, like conceal and carry.

The Eagle editorial board meets with Sebelius and this is the best they can do?

Oh yeah, we have to have our daily dose of happy Sebelius news or Eagle wouldn’t be doing it’s job.

Was this all they could divulge because it was a campaign strategy planning meeting?

It was surprising to see Barnett getting some ink. It wasn’t surprising that he had to write a letter to the Eagle to get it. (Nice letter, Jim; in a single letter you’ve laid out a comprehensive position on a key issue–more than our current “leader” has done in four years.)

Speaking of campaign strategies and the editorial staff, another Kline tirade from Crowson: major YAWN.

Roscoe – how many Republicans has the Eagle endorsed over the past decade as opposed to how many Democrats? Republicans far outnumber Dems on that list.

A Republican has to be really awful for the eagle not to endorse him.

    Thank you Ben…

    Beat me to that one…

The past few years is the first time i have ever heard the Eagle promote Dems over Repubs…

As Ben said: “A Republican has to be really awful for the eagle not to endorse him.”

I was at Barnett’s press conference yesterday: 2 guys from my shop, Jared Cerullo from KFDI, and Karl Peterjohn.I feel for the guy… been there, done that, still got the campaign debt from 16 years ago.I think its borderline irresponsibility for the so called “TV news stations” not to be there, but still, if they’ve already written the governor’s race off in mid-September…

MrC – when I ran for office I was told by the media that they would ‘cover’ the race if I bought campaign ads.

In lieu of being able to enumerate a candidate’s substantive accomplishments and positions (particularly in the case of Sebelius–she doesn’t have any), no doubt rationalizing “it’s our turn” is sound logic for an endorsement. (Good thing the other prominent Kansas Democrat–Fred Phelps–isn’t on the ticket.)

Did you see anything about Barnett’s press conference in the local paper? Local TV newscasts parrot what they read in the Eagle. Since the Eagle supresses Barnett information, why would the broadcast media know / report it?

Roscoe – I can’t speak for anyone else but I never used such a rationalization.
