Something President Bush reportedly said in a meeting with conservative talk-radio hosts last week puts this week’s United Nations address in a somewhat different context. Radio talker Mike Gallagher — who was at a Bush session along with Neal Boortz, Laura Ingraham, Sean Hannity and Michael Medved — said the president told them the war on terror has to be about right versus wrong, “because if it’s about Christianity versus Islam, we’ll lose.”

That is why it is a Crusade! (Crusade is the English word for Jihad)
Why what is a crusade?
You are not talking about the lefts hatred for Bush are you?
People with good sense hate Bush.
No Nathan – Bush declared Crusade.
Nathan,People from across the political spectrum don’t “hate ” Bush, they no longer support or trust him. This is caused by his bad decisions, incompetence and poor judgements. If you bother to look, they are in the majority.
Constantly whipping out your famous “Bush hater” label is not accurate, but it does make it easier for you!
Just when I thought you were trying to be rational…
Oh yeah thats right, rational ends with having a discussion about nuclear power with you.
gster,
When people have to resort to saying Bush has declared a crusade then it is a bit past simple disagreement and on the “I hate bush” side of the spectrum.
Nathan – now that was REALLY rational of you!
Nathan – Bush was the one who used the term Crusade.
I would love to know all of what was said in this little enclavce of right wing shillmeisters.
I know that Hannity and Boortz are still slobbering all over themselves about it.
Apparently, some sort of “third awakening” was put forth by bush. It was some sort of vague implication that Christianity was going to “reassert” itself.
In light of events in the mideast and some actions by social conservatives, even a hint of such an “awakening” is disquieting……
Check out CUFI which is allied with PNAC and AIPAC.
“Christians United for Israel (CUFI) is a new lobbying group that wants to make sure the US government does not encourage Israel to give up any land to the Palestinians, despite the clear injustice to Palestinians that entails. As their own inflammatory rhetoric betrays, they also clearly are promoting war against Iran.
CUFI is part of the Christian fundamentalist movement that wants to control every aspect of our lives — at least until they manage to provoke the Armageddon they believe will bring back Jesus. The US exploding nuclear weapons on Iran just a few hundred miles from Russia might do just that! Protest this nefarious group. Don’t let it take over our political system and our foreign policy!”

George W. Bush is willing to take America into his deranged fantasy and expecting some sort of betterment.
There is no aspect of his fantasy which will result in anything better, yet we’re not stopping him.
Why?
Nathan is a sympton of the problem.
Ben
Those people in CUFI are not right-minded.
That’s why they were written out of the Constitution.
Ed – but the CUFI bunch sure love Bush – and all those Rightie talkers!
What Rush Limbaugh wasn’t invited?
bush probably went to his head propoganda ministers home to deliver his little rant.
“Nathan – Bush was the one who used the term Crusade.”
In all fairness, he did back off of that, and the use of “Crusade” was pre-Iraq invasion. It was on the eve of the invasion of Afghanistan.
So basically Bush just wants to use different terms for the same justification for this war?
And then the Bushies wonder why the majority has caught on to this man?
I’m sure if this was John Kerry saying these things – then Nathan and his fellow Bush lovers would be crucifying him.
One of Georgie’s advisors must be telling him not to use the term Islam anymore because they need the Islam voters here on their side.
Beware after election, the name calling will be twice as vicious.
Bush talking about what’s right is a joke.
What incredible ineptitude and callousness for our President to talk about a Crusade while lying to us to make a case for the invasion and occupation of a Muslim country! Our children and later generations will pay the price of the lies, the violence, the cruelty, the incompetence, and the inhumanity of the Bush administration and the lackey Congress that has so cowardly abrogated its responsibility and authority under our checks-and-balances system of government. To think that we could be lied to by so many members of the Bush administration with such impunity is frightening – chilling. Yet these imperious, arrogant, dishonest people think we should just fall in line with them and continue to take them at their word. The truth has been established. Iraq had nothing to do with the 9/11 attacks on the United States. There is no evidence of any operational ties between Iraq and al Qaeda. And there were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. What a tragedy, leading to greater tragedy. We are fed lie after lie, our media reinforces those lies, and we are a nation led to a tragic, illegal, unprovoked war.No more lies, no more hiding of the truth, no more wars that more than triple the value of stock in Dick Cheney’s prior employer, Halliburton – and which, as of last September, has increased the value of the Halliburton CEO’s stock by $78 million. .
Sept. 16, 2001 Press ConferenceIn reply to a question about Homeland Security efforts infringing on civil rights, Bush said,
“This is a new kind of — a new kind of evil,” he said. “And we understand. And the American people are beginning to understand. This crusade, this war on terrorism is going to take a while.”
Whether Bush backed off on the “crusade” comment or not, it was Ari Fleischer who attempted to correct it. People of the Middle East were not amused.
Very interesting article:
Faith, Certainty and the Presidency of George W. BushBy RON SUSKIND

Looks like the “Able Danger” myth should now be laid to rest, except with the RWE’s.
So…
Bush uses the term once and now all of a sudden it proves beyond a reasonable doubt that he is on a crusade and considers it one?
Right, typical left wing retardation at it’s finest.
Nathan do you know anything about the “third awakening”?
This was apparently bush’s theme when he (in Sean Hannity’s words) “held court” with right wing radio shills.
The shills are not allowed to quote bush, but the suggestion is that some sort of Christian revolution is taking place.
As I said before, a disquieting thought.
Bush is gasping for air!
I think the “third awakening” might have something to do with periodic “awakenings” in our history. One was called the “Great Awakening” Beyond that, I’m a bit fuzzy. Perhaps there was a second one. Awakenings have to do with christian evangelical fevor. Fortunately, they die out, but when this happens no name applies. I suggest the “recovery.”
Air America would have attended but Al Franken was apparently looking through the couch for loose change and Randi Rhodes was last seen with her braces caught in some carpet somewhere.
No, they were not invited. However Rush WAS invited but did not attend. Word is he was nodding off after taking too many handfuls of whites.
Nathan,
Bush used the word more than once, but he was called on it and has been more careful since then. A wise course of action.
Bush supporters are loyal to the end, I must give them that. But unfortunately the end will have serious consequences for the rest of us.
Why does bush always photograph like a baboon, or chimp?
