Steve Irwin’s over-the-top personality could get on your nerves. And he certainly didn’t always use the best judgment, such as when he held his infant son while feeding a crocodile. But he sure made learning about nature fun for millions of children. And he did good work promoting conservation. Given all his encounters with dangerous animals, it seemed inevitable that he would be killed one day — or at least lose a limb. But when Irwin was killed by a stingray Monday, as his producer said, “he died doing what he loved best.”

He will definitely be missed by animal lover everywhere. He made nature learning fun for me and my family.
That really sucked.
“Crikey, that Croc has got ahold of me down unda” - a spoof from The Simpsons.
like his producer said, “he died doing what he loved best.”
I just hope i can do the same… (die doing what i like best)
I feel kinda bad. I wasn’t real familiar with this guy beyond how outrageous he was.
I learn now that he was a major force in conservation and species protection. He even was using his TV revenue to purchase and preserve land in Australia. Truly, this is a great loss.
His death was apparently filmed in graphic detail.
Should it be shown? Would he have wanted it shown?
Hopefully his wife will get to make that decision.
I watched CNN’s Larry King Live last night when they had him on from after that baby thing- and he said the angle of the camera made it look like he was closer to that croc than he really was.
But yeah, freak accident, of all the places I expected him to be done in by an animal, this is the last one I’d have expected.
He did tend to get on my nerves. I felt he needed some serious ADHD drugs lol.
I still remember feeling like some one had just punched me in the chest when I heard that Philippe Cousteau had been killed in a freak accident while landing the PBY on the river Nile. I knew how great a loss it was for not only the Cousteau family but the world of exploring and understanding the Oceans.
I felt that same punch the other morning, the human race tend to forget we are a part of this planet and are not the world to this planet. Irwin helped to remind us that if we stop being a part then the planet will have no use for us.
Steve Erwin should have worn sunblock to help block out the harmful Rays
Is it too early to hit on his wife?
When I went scuba diving last month, I got up close and personal with several stingrays. I think I’ll keep my distance from now on.If it wouldn’t have hit him in the heart, he probably would have survived.
No more swiming with sting rays on the Royal Carribean cruise for me!
The comments of blumpy and AreU are offensive and probably should be removed.
I think Irwin would be the first to admit he made a mistake. He approached the ray from behind. He was an impulsive guy that way. I don’t think he would want anyone to fear stingrays.
I bet if Steve Irwin had his way his body would be fed to the crocs!
blumpy posts with many other aliases on the wichita.com message board. Nobody monitors those boards, and the trolls like them have completely taken over the site, running all the others off. I hope the WE staff won’t allow them to do it here- if they do I’ll be outta here as well.
Toss an aussie on da barb-ie
see, that’s not me.
I’m sorry, it was me. I forgot
