Conventional wisdom has it that Hezbollah emerged the big winner in its recent clash with Israel. Charles Krauthammer’s column in the Washington Post takes a different view.
He cites the recent admission Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah (in photo): “If I had known that the operation to capture the soldiers would lead to this result, we would not have carried it out.”
Not exactly words of triumph. Krauthammer points out that Hezbollah also suffered severe damage to the military infrastructure it spent the past six years building, and political damage among Arab nations increasingly alarmed by Hezbollah’s Iranian sponsorship.

“If I had known that the operation to capture the soldiers would lead to this result, we would not have carried it out.”
The truely victorious is always humble. Do you even understand the language called english? It is clear that he wants to express his grief for the loss of civilian life due caused by the israeli massacre.
Krauthammer spins a story. Maybe he’ll promote Hell as a vacation spot.
Hey, he’s got talent, in all the wrong ways………
“Hell as a vacation spot.” Good one, Ed.
As for Hassan Nasrallah’s self-directed second-guessing, please. I know spin when I hear it. “If I’d a knowed they was crazy, I wouldn’t never ‘a gone and done it!” Saying that ex post facto makes him look reasonable and the Israelis out of control. But it’s all spin. Nasrallah knew what he was getting into. What else where those thousands of rockets were for?
As for Krauthammer, for him to take Nasrallah at face value is both disingenuous and self-serving. Krauthammer takes a break from denouncing Hezbollah as killers and liars to assume in this case that Nasrallah is telling the truth, because doing so enables him to argue that Hezbollah’s victory really means defeat. What crap.
Krauthammer and Nasrallah deserve each other. The pukes of spin.
Hezbollah fighters have done the impossible. They defeated one of the largest and most well equipped of the world’s Armies, the Israelis.
For the last 25 years, the Israelis had been shooting Palestinian women and children and rock-throwing teenagers.
Israelis fired missiles from Helicopter-gunships when confronted with armed men, or from the safety of being inside Tanks.
The Israel soldiers and Generals were no match for fighters who understood the Israeli arrogance, which always follows the unrestrained use brute force and senseless slaughter.
That is how and why Hezbollah sent the Israelis running home with their tails between their legs.
The Israelis now want the same prisoner swap Hezbollah had asked for in the beginning, but in a face-saving way other than face to face.
Israel is holding over 1000 women and children in their jails along with 10,000 other Palestinians.
Hezbollah captured the two Israeli soldiers to swap for the 1000 women and children.
The Israelis attacking Lebanon has brought all of this to light, along with verifying their brutality.
By now Hezbollah has repaired any damage and restocked with even better weapons.
Of course Iran backs Hezbollah as well as the US backs Israel. That’s no big “secret” as well as they should, with Arabs facing the overwhelming might of both the United States and their Israeli “Pit-bulls.”
Everybody seems to act as though it’s some great sin for Iran to help fellow Arabs from the onslaught of invasion.
Is the same true when applied to Britain and the United States?
and political damage among Arab nations increasingly alarmed by Hezbollah’s Iranian sponsorship.
Not true. Since the victory of Hezbollah over the Israeli invaders, their organization has had a huge increase in credibility among the masses of the Arab nations.
The real loser in Lebanon was the US-supported government of Saniora. They failed to even TRY to protect their citizens from massive terror-bombing. The Lebanese Army never even picked up a gun but was repeatedly bombed by Israel with full US support for that bombing. Why would any Arab country place its trust in the US and unilaterally disarm as Lebanon had done by removing anti-aircraft from aroune Beiruet?
Subsequent to the destruction Hizbollah is helping civilians rebuild. “Leftist” European countries are helping remove US-provided cluster munitions and are providing peace-keepers. The US is turning its back on the Lebanese. We won’t even assist in removing those thousands of unexploded cluster bomblets we sent there.
What are you, some kind of COMMUNIST?!
Our hard-working munitions-makers earn billions of dollars a year selling death and destruction to countries around the world.
Meanwhile, family farms are failing at steady rate because commodity prices are so low.
But, hey, that’s capitalism. You can’t change it. You can’t do anything about it.
If you don’t like it, move to Russia . . .
(heavy sarcasm)
The War on Terror….The War on PeaceThe ” Project For The New American Century” { PNAC } needed cover. A diversion from its goal of imperialism.Whether the 9/11 attack was organized and carried by PNAC, or actually came together by a rag-tag group of Arab misfits matters not, as it became the springboard for the “War on Terror,” which in fact was only a response to the devastation and loss on life here on American soil.In today’s world little is as it appears, or is disguised to appear.Since it’s inception in 1948 Israel Zionists have been killing Arabs, mostly Palestinians, every single day and violence, death and murder has been and is the order of the day.All of the land Israel now claims was stolen from Palestinians. Even the Bedouins had the goats slaughtered and were displaced.Systematically Palestinian homes were bulldozed, some with the residents still inside and 418 Palestinian Villages were turned into rubble by bombing or by bulldozing or both. 17,000 homes were destroyed and those millions of homeless Palestinians, which survived, were herded into refugee camps, in and around Palestine, Jordan and Lebanon.Israel continued to draw billions in foreign aid from the United States and build an Army, Navy and Airforce, and the brutality was kept secret until just recently by a propaganda campaign, depicting Israel as being the victim of “terror” from the Arab world. The label as “terrorist” was tagged onto the Palestinians who literally only fought back from being slaughtered, or trying to save their homes, farms, land and families. The US 9/11 Report clearly stated that the attack of 9/11 was not a “terrorist attack” but rather a retaliation by Arabs for over 50 odd years of murdering Arabs and stealing their land and brutalizing the Palestinians in the most hideous ways and with unimaginable cruelty.Over 1 million Olive tress and Orange trees were bulldozed flat. The farmers only crop. The Arabs League has offered Peace with the Israelis and that has been flatly rejected, time and time again. The so-called “War on Terror” is a deliberately contrived farce, to divert attention away from, or try to hide the PNAC Mideast conquest. The sacrifice of Lebanon has brought the Israelis into true focus, while exonerating Hezbollah. What the Bushco cabal is truly offering is a “War on Peace.”
