Sen. Kennedy vs. Edwards and Alito

Well, the votes from the Supreme Court’s last term have been tallied, and Sen. Edward Kennedy has weighed in with the results: the Senate made a big mistake in confirming John G. Roberts Jr. and Samuel A. Alito Jr. to the high court. The senator faults the two Bush appointees for what he terms “an activist’s embrace of the administration’s political and ideological agenda.”
Sen. Kennedy writes in the Washington Post: “Our new justices consistently voted to erode civil liberties, decrease the rights of minorities and limit environmental protections. At the same time, they voted to expand the power of the president, reduce restrictions on abusive police tactics, and approve federal intrusion into issues traditionally governed by state law.”
That Sen. Kennedy should conclude this is not surprising, since he lost no opportunity to impugn the two men during their confirmation hearings. But he does cite specific cases and notes, interestingly, that the two men voted together in 91 percent of all cases.
He concludes with a call for reforming the confirmation process to focus more on candidates’ actual records and legal thinking, with less emphasis on the short rounds of Senate questions that often come off as grandstanding.

It’s clear to me that Massachusetts made a big mistake by electing Edward Kennedy to office. OH! I forgot! The Kennedy family forced and itimidated their way to get brother Ed elected.

Ed Kennedy is just a drunken fool. He is one to say what good Supreme Court for him. Murderer.

Dammit Dave, get with the program here!!!!

Judges are only act-tee-vist if they UPHOLD the constitution.

Those destroying that “god damn piece of paper” formerly known as the constitution are doing so in the name of creating a one party theocracy. THEY, of course are not activist. Only constitutional defenders are activist.

The theocrats in kansas? THEY think these two judgnits appointed by the preznit are voting just fine. Lockstep is GREAT with them.

A vote for Jim Barnett and susan “I own bingo parlors but you cant vote on gambling” wagle OR a vote for “daddy cancancanibegove” canfield will KEEP these assholes in power.

Or, of course, you could vote for change. heheheh

Except this is kansas, where the only change goes from bad to worse…

I recall my frustration in trying to convince some people here that Alito was a dangerous fascist. By my own admission, I didn’t do a great job.

However, by the nature of their responses, they didn’t want to hear it anyway.

Alito’s dissent in the Hamdan case (in which Roberts recused himself–for voting against Hamdan in a lower court) proves my point better than I could.

    Monarchy, anyone?

If dead eye dick cheney didnt travel with his own ambulance and medical team, he would also have just as many kills to his credit.

…and of course, we wonder if alcohol played a role in darth cheney’s lapse in judgement when he shot an old man in the face…

Actually, Joe, I didn’t say a word about political parties. Why did you?

The fact remains that, were it not for Clinton’s 2 appointees to the SC, we would ALREADY be living in a monarchy.

There are also plenty of libertarian Repubs who can see what’s happening. Unfortunately, they are a distinct minority, and they don’t control the party.

The people of Mass keep electing Kennedy because they want him in there. He and Clinton are better politicians than anybody the GOPers can field. What I like about both of them, morals aside, but that is there business, none of mine, is that they make RightWingers like Joe Williams froth at the mouth.

Well, benny, we were giving Dave, ahem, a pass today since it is his first day on the playground.

He’s probably a little nervous and wondering if we will make fun of his lunchbox or his shoes or his accent or something.

We are trying to be NICE for a change. I know it is nearly unrecognizable here.

And you probably wont see it again anytime soon. I think the honeymoon could be over soon if history is any predictor.
