Ramsey case solved? Not so fast

The strange confession of John Mark Karr (in photo) in the famously unsolved JonBenet Ramsey murder case has media speculating whether the case is closed or this is just another false lead. There is reason to fear that Karr is just an obsessed kook; several of his reported details (that JonBenet was drugged, that he picked her up from school) don’t jibe with the facts.
But there must be more in the police affidavit that points to Karr as the killer. This article quotes an unnamed law enforcement source as saying that Karr gave graphic details of the girl’s body that were known only to forensic doctors in the case. Sounds like whether there is a DNA match will be critical.
Meanwhile, the media are debating whether they went overboard in casting suspicion on the Ramseys. Jack Shafer of Slate says "no" here.
What do you think of the developments?

I read in USA Today this morning, that this guy married his first wife when she was 13, his 2nd wife when she was 16, and had outstanding child porn charges he never answered.I wouldn’t want this weirdo on my front porch even if it was Hallooween!

Yup, this guy is a twisted as corkscrew . . . BUT . . . he was in Alabama with his now estranged wife on the night of the killing.

It’s not hard to remember. It was Christmas of 1996.

Obviously, Jon Benet was killed by someone who knew her and knew the house. The family dog didn’t even bark.

This guy doesn’t fit the bill.

Um yeah, the media already said the parents did it years ago so who is this guy and why is this actually a big story?

Jon Benet’s mother said something interesting before she died. She said: I love “that” child, not I loved “my” child.

The “mother” considered “that” child as more of an object than a person. It’s sickening to watch parents turn a child into a sexual object……

How ’bout we do now what we should have done then. Stop the rampant speculating, and wait until the facts come out in court.

But then what would the talking heads do with all that 24 hour news time??

    GMC70,

Indeed. This goes on being the biggest non-story of the last ten years.

I detest our media. Would that it were merely useless.

I think they’ve got the wrong pervert, but at least they got one.

Was there some fighting in the mideast involve some Americans or something? Who cares, let’s focus on the Jon Benet story then we’ll revist the OJ trial.

Wasn’t Karr just looking for the real killer of Ramsey over in Thailand?

I think that all investigations start with the parents, but the evidence that I’ve read, or seen, should have pretty much eliminated them from the get-go.

The Ramsey case just goes to prove that not everything is as it seems, that rational innocent people DO do strange things in times of stress and should not automatically assume guilt.

I believe there are a whole lot more people sitting in jails for less evidence, simply because they didn’t have the money to fight such abuses of power as this case.

I never belived that the parents killed Jon Benet, but I really doubt this guy did either. I still wonder if it wasn’t someone close to the family, or maybe one of her siblings. The whole case was just so strange, we may never know what really happened. I do think what the media did to the Ramseys was unforgiveable, talk about destroying people’s lives. It is true about “the pen being mightier than the sword”.

    Really?

I thought the parents were as queer as a three dollar bill.

The little girl beauty pagents are very strange and sick.

Her death was not from a stranger. The killer knew the house, knew the girl.

Maybe the parents didn’t do it, but they know more than they’re telling.

CapnAmerica, because you don’t approve of little girl beauty pagents, you think there is something strange and sick about it? I don’t like them either, but I don’t think the parents are murderers nor people who would want to harm their children. Little girls like to play dress up, and mommies like to allow them to do so. So what?

I don’t think they covered up for anyone. That person could have been in that house walking around for days, hiding out in the basement, reading the mail. There was nothing queer about the Ramseys. And to say the little boy did it, especially with all the evidence that points outside of the home, is just heartless.

    Geez.

Maybe this Karr guy was molesting children in Thailand and figured it was better to spend time in American prisons so he just claimed to have raped and murdered a girl in America? At least the Bush administration is happy because the press obsesses about this non-issue rather than the fact that a court has declared Bush to be a criminal who must go to jail for his violations of the 4th Amendment.

Good point Doug. I know if I had to spend my life in a prison in either in Thailand or America it’d be a pretty easy choice.

I just want to say that the murderer of Jonbenet is sick. I doubt that their parents killed her or anyone of her family members for that case. She was a beautiful young girl with much talent its a shame that she was taken from our world

If he’s guilty, I hope he gets the death penalty. Someone that sick and cruel needs to be taken off the earth.
