Is Wichita really full of CAVE people or is that just a mis-perception?
In case you wonder what I mean:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CAVE_People
It is just a misperception by those who consider anyone who disagrees with them as being CAVE people.
Thunder vs Wranglers.
The Thunder seem to be successful, drawing 6000-8000 per game I understand. The Wranglers, OTOH, languish with pitiful attendence. Why the difference?
My suspicion is that parking/convenience are issues. Anyone else?
Ben – even with a sold out concert/event, parking is not a big problem – the longest I’ve EVER waited to get out of the parking lot was 20 minutes. Hubby used to work security there and said the parking lot would be virtually empty within 30 minutes of the end of event.
Julie – are you referring to Coliseum or LS stadium. That difference might be the key. I have never had any problems at the Coliseum but have had problems at LD with traffic.
Thanks for your prayers Julie. Missed that in the other thread.
Thanks to everyone for their kind words about my deployment.
Ben,
I’ll try not kill Babies, rape women, or pillage and plunder like you think every Marine does and is allowed to do…
I can’t help it when those terrorists hide behind women and children to shoot at me though. In those circumstances I will shoot back to protect myself and my fellow Marines.
I think the bigger problem with the Wranglers is the advertising…
If you remember years back they used to have the catchy theme song “Wichita Wranglers Baseball, Stampede, Stampede, Stampede.”
Per my memory, about the time that the major marketing stopped is when attendance declined.
Also, the other thing why the Thunder draw more people, ITS HOT OUTSIDE and its COLD IN THERE… ;-)
Julie, I have been at the Coliseum after large events, the parking lot is basically empty within 30 min or so after an event. The only ones left are the drunks still drinking in the lot…
;-)
Off on a tangent, how’s the development on non-lethal weaponry developed for crowd control etc? Has it been used in Iraq?
The problems caused at LD because of traffic is because they don’t know how to have cops or security out there directing traffic like they do at the Coliseum. If they had someone directing traffic than there would be a problem.
gee Ben – can’t you read my mind today? sorry – my bad.The Kansas Coliseum is what I was refering to. LD is a nightmare to get out of – I wait until the idiots are gone before I even head to the car.
I never said “every Marine does and is allowed to do…” – just enough of them to really mess things up. The generals have acknowledged this – finally.
jfran is lurking………..
BOOOOO!
Julie – I think you have hit the nail on the head. How will the Thunder do when traffic is a “nightmare to get out of – I wait until the idiots are gone before I even head to the car.”
Nathan, you do whatever you have to do. I certainly respect your convictions and hope you stay safe.
I have a large collection of post cards dating back to the 1890’s, but one of my favorites is sent from Iwo Jima during WWII, by a man from Wichita no less. Says he’s been in a foxhole thirty some days, and only had his boots off twice. Urges his younger brother to stay in school and be good to the folks. Written on a ‘captured’ Japanese post card. Neat stuff!
Ben – I have my doubts on how often I will use the new arena – it better be a show I just can’t live without – either that or I’ll leave before it’s over.I wish the Wichita Metro Area (Sedgwick, Harvey, Butler counties) had the opportunity to vote instead of just Sedgwick County.
Ben, agreeing to disagree does not in and of itself constitute CAVEness. (Ha, new term.) It’s more along the lines of the constant, uninformed negative rhetoric about a particular issue. Don’t upgrade the terminal, don’t build the technical training center, don’t build the arena, don’t raise taxes, vote out the city council, vote out the county commission, yada, yada, yada.
Julie, I agree with you too! I’ve never understood why folks complained about the Coliseum. It’s not that far. When I lived in SE Wichita it took only 15 min. to get there…and plenty of parking. I don’t think most folks understand that the Coliseum has to be upgraded irregardless of a new arena.

Ralph – I know precisely what CAVE means. I also know that Commies use it to describe anyone who disagrees with their particular vision. In their “constant, uninformed rhetoric about a particular issue” pushing for things like WaterWalk they hide behind that perjoritive.
Julie – WichiWomn – now for my next question: Will the Thunder do better or worse downtown?
Quote of the Day:
“Our race is the Master Race. We Jews are divine gods on this planet. We are as different from the inferior races as they are from insects. In fact, compared to our race, other races are beasts and animals, cattle at best. Other races are considered as human excrement. Our destiny is to rule over the inferior races. Our earthly kingdom will be ruled by our leader with a rod of iron. The masses will lick our feet and serve us as our slaves.” (Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin in a speech to the Knesset [Israeli Parlament], quoted by Amnon Kapeliouk, “Begin and the Beasts,” New Statesman, June 25, 1982)
Viva La Raza Blanco!!!
WichiWoman,
My daughter mentioned to me a couple of days ago that nothing is scheduled at the Coliseum until much later in the fall. Could they be working on upgrades now?
I don’t remember traffic problems when I attended two or three games, but I’ve always found the Coliseum hard to get out of and wait until the crowd thins considerably. Then again, neither compares to the aftermath of a sold-out Chiefs game.
Ben -I don’t know. The Thunder have some die hard fans. I enjoy going to the games but I don’t know that I will take the trouble to find babysitter for the 2 youngest kids just to deal with the aggrevation of downtown driving.
quit that TRACY!!! you startled me!! (back to lurking……..)
Alright! My first blogging..’GOTCHA’ moment. HA
Ben,My opinion is that the Thunder will suffer if moving to the new arena…but they do have lots of die hard fans, including me! They could be working on upgrades, I’ll ask someone that I know who works there.
Nathan,”I can’t help it when those terrorists hide behind women and children to shoot at me though. In those circumstances I will shoot back to protect myself and my fellow Marines.”
I doubt if you’ll be going on patrol or get shot at much working in the armory. I did a google search and couldn’t find a single instance where an American armory has been attacked.
Interesting that nobody has said they are MORE likely to go to Thunder games downtown.
Of course, if you feel like shooting women and children, I guess that’s your business. I’d suggest you avoid that….you have to live with that sort of thing.
XXX,
I am part of a support unit. There is no guaruntee that I will just be providing that support in a building.
You are right though, I most likely will spend my time in a cage fixing weapons…
The point was brought up because Ben(The terrorist sympathizer) said I was going to go rape women and kill people.
Beware by friend! If the Democrats take the power in government back this year, which they claim they will, it will be politically popular to spit on soliders again.
Never trust Leftist!
Nathan the civilian oppressor (makes as much sense as your labeling) – problem is, you are in THEIR country. Many of them are likely to not like that.
Joe, the majority of the VietNam vets I knew told me they got a better reception from us than they did from Republican business owners when they went looking for jobs. Or the VA when they went looking for help.
Ben, ha. Benihaha. As a free market property rights capitalist, I also know that some might say that CAVE people are anyone who is for maintaining the status quo and/or who promote group think over individual rights. The point of my original post is that too often the rhetoric is just that “were agin it” without an understanding of the broader picture. In today’s world, most of the issues cross socioeconomic lines and are not within the bounds of a tidy little political package.
Nathan, In Vietnam, we were always putting out fires in ammo dumps and armories. They got rocketed regularly. I was a little surprised not to find any instances of armories being attacked in Iraq. If I was running an insurgency, any place that housed ammo or arms would be a huge target.
As I have often said, “maintain a low profile”.
Complete BS Ben! Complete BS!
I’ll call it! Give me the rank, name, and the number of your vet friends. I’ll call you on that BS.
After watching river city forum on Thursday Aug.10, the point was made that since the States formed the government the state can effect the government. If the state legislature pressures the Federal government to act they will act. It was brought up in reference to the signing statements of G.W. Bush. This valuable information, if the U.S. government fails to act on a subject of importance we the people can bring it to the state to force a resolution with the Federal government. By contacting the State Attorney General and asking for an opinion or contacting you state legislature. Expressing your concern and asking that they would do something on the matter with the Federal government.
Of course this is a double edge sword, since the subject on the forum was in part voting and the failure of the majority to use their right to vote. i.e. apathy, this avenue suggested above would get more attention from the extreme on either side then the average citizen. The key as was said is to let your elected official know what you think. Else you will find that someone else is voicing their opinion in your voice.Leaving you with the option of either complaining that no one listen to you or excepting that something you think is wrong is now law.
All the letters to Senator Roberts and Congressman Tiehrt may do no good, but perhaps if the Kansas state legislature speaks to them. That one voice might be heard.
Hey Ben,
I’ll say it… I’m more likely to go to a Thunder game…
That reason is simple, the arena will be exactly 3 blocks from my office. So if they have a early evening game, i might twist my arm to go down there, sit in a very cold building and drink a few cold ones…
Joe,”I’ll call it! Give me the rank, name, and the number of your vet friends. I’ll call you on that BS.”
My rank was sargent, If you want my name, email me, and what number do you want? Phone number, or service number?
When I came back from Vietnam, it was tough getting a job. Everybody thought we were nuts. Most of us were to some degree. The VA was a cattle yard.
Tony I get what your saying, but I just wanted to point out that the Thunder play during the more milder months. Oct-April.
The arena is a done deal, get out and support it when it comes or else it will really be a financial disaster.
Joe Williams,
“If the Democrats take the power in government back this year, which they claim they will, it will be politically popular to spit on soliders again.”
So I’m gonna spit on my relative, who was almost killed over there? And spit on his buddies? You seem to be pushing hate-filled propaganda. Americans can respect and support soldiers, while disagreeing with a failed strategy.
Cosmos! I’m sorry! I don’t spew hate. Just giving the reality. It happened during Vietnam with the peace leftist crowd, it can happen again.
Right now it is popular for Democrats to say they support the troops, but hate Bush’s war.
The thing to ask yourself cosmos about your relative and your friend is; can you tell them that they are over there on a failed strategy? Can you tell them that they are over there to die for oil? Can you tell them that their Commader and Chief is a dummy and sending you to your death?
I wonder if you can? You don’t have to physically spew saliva like the leftist did to our Vietnam Vets, but you can spit your discontent for what they do because you hate the President of the USA.
Who has the hate filled propaganda now?
Joe Williams?
You just don’t know when to quit do you?
XXX already dispatched your earlier silly post. You didn’t even respond to him.
Now cosmos tries to set you right and you rail at him too.
Joe? My observation is that you are younger than me.
I was a small child during the Vietnam war. That means you, like me, can only know what others say about that time.
Ben knows that time. XXX knows that time. You do not.
You are further and further marginalizing yourself here Joe. I forget what thread it was but I THINK it was writerdog you called an outright liar.
Moderation Joe. Moderation.
Cosmos there is a purple chicken looking for you.
XXX! Was it tough for everybody, or just vets. And the people that rejected your application for employments affliated with the Republican Party and made it known to you?
JR! My observation is that you’re unemployed and have serious hate-filled issues.
Sometimes I skip some responses, not on purpose. Just I overlook it when scrolling down. With 100+ postings and numo………
Man! Why do I need to explain anything to you. You’ll just scratch your butt and wouldn’t understand. Everybody here is way above your level. I actually ignore you on purpose.
Bye!
I actually look forward to your posts Joe! You are entertaining in a simplistic cartoon kinda way.
I’M the “hater”??
You called Ben out on matters you have no knowledge about. On another thread today you called writerdog a liar! I’ll be off to answer that one shortly.
“Everybody here is way above your level”
Funny. No one is ringing any bells on me! They are also not claiming station above me as you just did. I’ve busted your posts many times. SO much so that you’ve whined about me “busting your chops” and “hating you”. When was the last time YOU ever busted anyone but yourself?
“I actually ignore you on purpose.”
Uh huh. Like you just did with your last post directed solely at me.
“Bye”
Hey I say you’d do yourself a favor not answering me.YOU know, since I’ve so often melted you down? Heck you aint even my favorite toy mouse. The less you post you direct your posts on me probably the better off you are!
I’ll be right here Joe!
Uh, JR, TRACY, is this what you might call the “soap opera” portion of the blog? I have noticed that as it gets later at night, emotions tend to run “high”….. or maybe common sense and logic have earlier bedtimes………not pointing fingers at any one in particular, just my observations…..
Hello again jfran.
Well as a long time reader I call your observations a valuable contribution.
Emotions run high around here all the time. Joe is as “Joe” on a Thursday night as he is on a Saturday morning.
I’ve noticed about Joe that he seems to want to play both sides of the fence…..when it’s convenient. I think he means well, I think his intentions are good, and I like the way he isn’t afraid to give his opinion. I don’t think he always thinks things through, but at least he’s in there swinging. The problem for him, and some others, is that they need to remember the old Jim Rome addage: “Have a take, don’t suck….” This is a tough blog, and if you don’t come in strong, you’ll get run……
Just my opinion, what I’ve noticed throughout my nightly readings…. :-)
Joe Williams,
Interesting back-pedaling…(emphasis added)
1) “…it WILL be politically popular to spit on soliders again.”2) “I don’t spew hate. Just giving the reality. It happened during Vietnam with the peace leftist crowd, it CAN happen again.”
“Who has the hate filled propaganda now?”
Your rabid reply says that you still do. You seem unable to handle the facts, or an honest debate.
Most Americans today understand that the ‘Nam soldiers were NOT responsible for what happened, and that some were poorly treated by a few anti-war activists.
That understanding causes them to have a HUGE respect for the service and sacrifices of today’s soldiers.
You’re unable to understand that — and instead you push old, exaggerated, false stereotypes.
Joe, hindsight is 20/20. The thing to ask yourself is… what will the future say about the last 6 years?
cosmos
The purple chicken tried to find you but was re-directed.
You may reach the purple chicken via my live email.
Recommended reading from Krauthammer.excerptLamont seems to think that we should just sit down with the Iranians and show them why going nuclear is not a good idea. This recalls Sen. William Borah’s immortal reaction in September 1939 upon hearing that Hitler had invaded Poland to start World War II: “Lord, if only I could have talked with Hitler, all this might have been avoided.”
This naivete in the service of endless accommodationism recalls also the flaccid foreign policy of the post-Vietnam Democratic left. It lost the day — it lost the country — to Ronald Reagan and a muscular foreign policy that in the end won the Cold War.end excerpt.

Heckler, Krauthammer’s column is contradictory and bogus.
He even quotes Lamont as saying we should “use carrots as well as sticks” — it is NOT “accommodationism” to use very aggressive diplomacy as well as the military option.
Search on “Krauthammer” at http://www.dailyhowler.com/ for more examples of his inaccuracies and lack of credibility.

Yup, nothing like conservative flop-sweat along with the morning coffee to give one new hope for the world.
Under GW, the United States lost two New York skyscrapers, the budget surplus, the improving economy, cheap gas, and a major US city.
Maybe the man just isn’t lucky.
Approval down to 33 percent with moderates turning away in droves.
Oh, well, that’s what they get for supporting the WORST. PRESIDENT. EVER.
Tracy
brad patzer is going back to idaho. i live in sek myself and it was in our local newspaper.
More bullshit from Joe. “Complete BS Ben! Complete BS!
I’ll call it! Give me the rank, name, and the number of your vet friends. I’ll call you on that BS.”
Joe, I did not record their personal information. Even if I had I would respect their privacy more than to give their private information to a hate-mongering BushBot like you!
I will DEFINITELY never trust a brainless moron like you!
Ralph,
Yes, you are correct, Wichita is full of knuckle dragging uber neanderthals.Ain’t it great????
V.L.R.B!!!
Yes I read that too, clark.Bye-bye banana boy.
clark, is that you?If you’re a Taylor Hicks look-alike then it’s you!!
In tribute to a certain JoeWhose wild posts we’ve all come to know.
The words I’ve rewrote.
But I’ve changed not a note.
The music for this “Let it Snow”
Let it “Joe”
Now some posters here are insightful.
And some are quite frankly frightful!
And one to outer limits does go!
Let it Joe! Let it Joe! Let it Joe!
He doesn’t show signs of stopping.
His posts reality hopping.
One wonders from just where they flow.
Let it Joe! Let it Joe! Let it Joe!
When he really gets wound up,
Joe can post a really wild rant.
If you ask him to back it with facts.
You’ll find out quite quickly…..he can’t!
Joe’s posts are kinda strangely amusing.
Even though he is confusing.
But when the weblog gets slow,
Let it Joe! Let it Joe! Let it Joe!
Well Ben! I guess you’re a better BS artist.
Just admit you lied! I’m begining to really question your credibility. If you are a scientist and have these degrees and went to Yale and all of that.
Even XXX didn’t answer me back.
But to say that Vietnam Vets couldn’t get jobs after the war because of Republicans is complete and utter BS and you know it too. You’re just being a political partisan hack.
What is funny is that everybody demands sources and links from me. I provide them and then everybody shuts up!
But when it’s the other way around, people re-write songs and spew hate at me. Pretty funny!
I guess I’m loved by all in here. I welcome it. :D
Jeez Joe, give me a break. I don’t live in front of this computer. Some of us have a life. So let’s address your question.
“XXX! Was it tough for everybody, or just vets.”
Joe, we’re talking about 35 years ago. How much do you remember from 35 years ago? I honestly don’t remember people having trouble finding jobs. In college, I hung out with other vets, and we all had trouble finding jobs. I know it was tough for me to get a job. Living in a small community, you hear things. People from a couple of places I was turned down at told me that the owners were afraid to hire vets because they were so fu*ked up.”And the people that rejected your application for employments affliated with the Republican Party and made it known to you?”
Nobody is going to admit a thing like that. In a couple of cases, they didn’t have to. One of the business owners that turned me down was a republican county commissioner. Another one was a republican on the city council.
By the way Joe, I was a republican in those days. And I was against the war when I came home. It wasn’t only Liberals who were against the war.
People can be against the war. Either it be WWII, Vietnam and Iraq. It crosses party lines.
I don’t know! I get tired of the political party partisan BS that people sling at each other with.
“I’m better than youuuuu! Naa Naa Na Naa Na!”
“Republicans are idiots!”"Democrats are wusses!”
I’m very much to blame for this. I see that most of the active participators of this blog are very much to the far left and they don’t do nothing but bash Repubicans, so I try to swing it back. I don’t like to take things sitting down and I stand up to bullies.
But I also instigate and cause back-in-forth banter, when it’s a waste of my time.
I appoligize and I’ll try to be cool, but sometimes I gotta say something and call people out.
Joe,keep on swinging your hammer. Your last post seemed much more thought out. I don’t, however, think most of the regulars here are as far left as you think. And if they seem to bash repubs more than you would like, remember, the repubs are making themselves pretty easy targets. I think what most of the regulars object to is the blatent hypocrisy they see from repubs and/or those on the far right. And I know you are thinking, “Well, both sides have their fair share of hypocrites”…and you’re right. But I think those who you claim are just repub bashers, would be the first to admit if someone on their side was just as big a hypocrite. And then again, I could be totally wrong…..but I don’t think so……
Joe,
You and I don’t agree on much but I do give you credit for being a free thinking individual. Unlike some others here, you are not dogmatic and I respect that. Petty partisan cheerleading is often inevidence here and it has been a huge problem in regards to our rotten political system.
V.L.R.B!!
Nice post jfran.I’m admittedly sarcstic towards repugnicans.Whether I cross the imaginary line into blind partisan hate is in the eyes of the beholder, some would say I don’t go far enough, others too far.In my own mind, my label would be iconoclast. You are correct in you assumption that it would not matter which side of the isle the icons are from.
I think Joe has noticed that I don’t think purely along party lines.I’ve agreed with Joe on many things, and commented that.I’ve never had any “lefties” make a comment about agreeing with someone they may vehemently oppose.I do think the dems are much more tolerant of independent thinkers.(excepting Lieberman)
