Number one post on this Open Thread! Tell em what he won Bob:A NEW CAAAAAAAAARRRRRR!!!
SEASON TICKETS TO THE 2008 WICHITA WRANGLERS!!!!!!!!
AND THATS NOT ALL FOLKS!!
ADDITIONAL SELECT GAMES TO THE WICHITA WINGS!!!!
Let the Wranglers play to an empty stadium in 2007.
Let us begin to consider a recall of the arena.
Quote of the Day:
“I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them. It is not to inaugurate new programs, but to cancel old ones that do violence to the Constitution or that have failed their purpose, or that impose on the people an unwarranted financial burden. I will not attempt to discover whether legislation is “needed” before I have first determined whether it is constitutionally permissible. And if I should later be attacked for neglecting my constituents “interests, ” I shall reply that I was informed that their main interest is liberty and that in that cause I am doing the very best I can.” [Barry Goldwater]
V.L.R.B!!!
If a movement was started now, it could be on the ballot in November.
In November this year the arena will not have the anonymity and deceptiveness it had when it was approved by a very narrow margin before.
Now that we KNOW it was poorly pre-conceived and with an eye to placating the wealthy who are NOT paying their fair share for its construction ( “VIP” parking and private elevators and best seats in the house for the well heeled???) it is time that the taxes accumulated for construction of this play house for the rich be reconsidered.
Recall the ARENA!
I’m not feeling well…JR, your making a me feel a little worse, stop whining about the arena.
The Coliseum wasn’t worth fixing by court order mind you, for $50 + Million dollars. The County floated an idea to tear the thing down and rebuild it for $100 Million. They don’t have to ask you, me, other county citizens to raise taxes for that.
A little more Millions and in a better location, believe me, the downtown arena will look and act just fine, plenty of parking too!
The vote in Arkansas for a new field Wranglers are moving to, was what 17 people. The winners won a democratic vote. Wranglers are moving and field of dreams there is going to be built.
We also won the arena vote here. No recall is going to happen, about what? The Coliseum had to be fixed and its not worth it. Many said it was the ugliest facility anyway, so a total makeover had to happen.
So move, if the penny tax is breaking your wallet.
What’s going to happen with the Coliseum, eventually it will be torn down as it should be. We need a stadium that will do those “dirt” shows, plus WSU football, and whatever else we can get to Wichita as an event.
The downtown arena isn’t large enough for even Stones to use in theory, today. Arena’s shouldn’t be too large. NBA teams only play 18,000 seat places.
Stadiums are supposed to be huge. Today’s stadiums can be engineered for year round use and any event imaginable.
Cessna Stadium is no place to play Division 1 football in the future, when the WSU program is brought back from the dead.
Sing this, let it be, let it be, just let it be…
Are we a large part of the problem? I love PBS not that they always answer all my questions. But at time makes me think farther then I was, tonight they had a program that was talking about the media. From some of what they said, it got me thinking as to where the majority get their information that they form their opinions and thoughts. Right here, on this blog on many blogs, people come to learn. It may not be the only source they have, but often it is what is said here and other sites that people get at least an idea of what is going on. There was a quote once that if not for the blogs there would be many news items that would never see the light of day.
Some time ago, it was said that most people depend more on Blogs to get the “real news” then the MSM.Who comes in second is opinion programs like Rush Limbaugh on the extreme right and Ok I need help with someone on the extreme left? Though some may accuse me of following and getting my views from the extreme left. I in fact do not watch or listen to any of the opinion programming on either side. Because they are totally OPINION, washed, spun, cleaned to fix as to the what and why they want the news to be.
Recently I was doing a search for information concerning the “Yellow cake” documents. interesting things about the search. First, the extreme right site had far more about it then the extreme left. In a sense that is understandable. The revelation that the documents were a majority of forgeries, the signature of the President of Niger being a weak attempt to forge his name and it was misspelled at that, one document dated 2000 had the signature of a minister that had not been in the Government since 1997. This being of a far more damaging effect to the right then left, so the right needed to spend more time to try to counter it.
It took me several pages of the search just to find something that had not been spun by the right or left. That actually dealt with the facts of the case, rather then spin it one way or another. The majority of the hits from the search, were links to blogs! I love this blog, I like to speak my mind and try to counter act the views I find too right or left. But I also take with a grain of salt most everything someone said until I can verify it in some fashion. I would expect others to do the same with anything I would write. If I follow a link posted, I first look to see just why there is such a piece posted there.
Of the MSM, everyone has one that they trust more then others, for the most part the major three T.V. news medias I find not too far left or right. And since I am here, the Wichita Eagle is trustworthy to my thinking. Those that are now shouting “B.S.” as they read this are simply not happy when any of the media had said something they did not agree with. In the PBS program tonight they talked about this in that they are accused to have been soft at the time of the build up to the Iraq invasion on the stated reason that Bush wanted to invade. Then they were accused of being to liberal when they report on something that puts the invasion in a bad light. The obvious conclusion being you can not pleases everyone.
It does trouble me that no one has done an in depth report on the biggest questions so far. A definitive report on the real subjects that could tear this country apart. Did the President prior to the invasion have clear information that what he and the his administration was saying was not true? Is the use by President Bush of signing statements to negate the law legal and binding? Is using the term “unlawful combatant” instead of “Prisoner of war” to get around the constricts of the Geneva convention concerning torture. Really a defense against future charges of war crimes that might be brought against the president. As was suggested by then White house chief legal council now Attorney general Gonzales? It makes me wonder why none of the MSM have addressed these issues one way or another. They have been talked to death on the Blogs and message boards. But the MSM has left it to those venues, failing to do the job that they should be. Though not on this question the PBS program did address a possible cause of this by saying the News media has become too corporate, to depended on the sponsors for the reporters to freely report the news.
So it then relies on the internet and the blogs and message boards to get the “truth” out. The problem is that in general those taking the time to set up a blog or to post to a blog have their own agenda. Placing their own spin on it, sometime to the sacrifice of the real news. It also opens up these arenas to be used for disinformation, a good case in point is the announcement of the discovery of 500 artillery shell in Iraq that either could carry or were loaded with chemical weapons. The extreme right took off like a cat on fire with the news and had painted it as the proof to have justify the invasion. Otherwise trying to distract the public in to believing that the WMDs that were mentioned as a reason to invade were one and the same and thus making the lost of innocent life and the cost of the military action worth it. The Bush administration has already stated these shells were not the WMDs they had been talking about. The Pentagon states that the shells are all pre-1991 ban and are thought to be leftovers from the war between Iran and Iraq. But many on the extreme right are standing on these shells like a one legged man would use anything he could to keep from falling over. The weapons inspectors had reported that on occasions they would find such shells in amongst other conventional shells during their inspections, this was actually old news. The revelation did not even come from the inspection group that went in after the invasion to look for the WMDs but rather from an advisory to the troops warning that due care and concern be given to the handling of those old munitions. As in the past some have been found to have degraded chemical weapons in them and could cause burns and health concerns. The strength of the chemical agents are counted in months and not years. So shells dating back to 1986 were no longer useful as a WMD if fired.
Until the MSM takes back their place as the rightful standard for reliable news and reports it without fear of being fired or shunned. Until they regain their place as the “Forth estate” people will go to blogs and message board for their information.
A story: Walter Cronkite after visiting Vietnam came back and gave a report that stated that what the American people were told by the government about how well the war in southeast Asia was going was not the truth and it was far worst then thought. President Johnson like some many other American would stop what he was doing at the time the news would come on. After Cronkite’s report was over, he turned to an aid and said, ” If we have lost Walter Cronkite we have lost America on this!”.
There are no more Cronkite, news men that we would trust to give us the news straight and it is the truth.Who’s opinion would be believed and trusted. Now we just have our own versions of Joseph Goebbels.
Nice post dog.Thoughtful and meaningful.Tip o’the hat.
And an addition to you post (dog):It must be recognized that the cause of all world unrest, of the world wars which have wrecked humanity, and the widespread misery upon our planet, can largely be attributed to a selfish group with materialistic purposes, who have for centuries exploited the masses and used the labor of mankind for their selfish ends . . .This group of capitalists has cornered and exploited the world’s resources and the staples required for civilized living; they have been able to do this because they have owned and controlled the world’s wealth through their interlocking directorates, and have retained it in their hands. They have made possible the vast differences existing between the very rich and the very poor; they love money and the power which money gives; they have stood behind governments and politicians; they have controlled the electorate; they have made possible the narrow nationalistic aims of selfish politics; they have financed the world businesses and controlled oil, coal, power, light and transportation; they control publicly or sub rosa the world’s banking accounts. The responsibility for the widespread misery to be found today in every country in the world, lies predominantly at the door of certain major interrelated groups of business men, bankers, executives of international cartels, monopolies, trusts and organizations, and directors of huge corporations, who work for corporate or personal gain.
In the future days, which we seek to make secure, we look forward to a world founded upon four essential human freedoms.
The first is freedom of speech and expression – everywhere in the world. The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way – everywhere in the world.
The third is freedom from want – which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants – everywhere in the world.
The fourth is freedom from fear – which, translated into world terms, means a worldwide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion, that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbour – anywhere in the world.

Can you think of a reason?
From today’s Eagle:
Report: Poll staff needs training
“New voting machines functioned well during Tuesday’s primary, but poll workers should be better trained, a statement released by the Sedgwick County Voters’ Coalition said.”
Where I voted, poll workers did a fine job. There was no confusion, and a very nice lady did an excellent job of explaining the machines.
“Another major concern of the coalition was lack of privacy while voting. Machines at some stations were too close together and it was possible to see how a neighboring person voted, said Betty Ladwig, a member of the coalition and co-president of the local League of Women Voters.”
There’s a simple answer to this. How about some manners? A person with good manners doesn’t look at how someone else is voting. You could also see another person’s ballot as you walked past. Maybe we should invest in voting vaults.
Or maybe one should just mind one’s own business.
Here you go Ian.Quote me on this:
The world is one world, and its sufferings are one; humanity is in truth a unity, but many are still unaware of this, and the whole trend of christian teaching is directed to the awakening of humanity to this, while there is yet time to avert still more serious conditions. The sins of humanity are also one. Its goal is one, and it is as one great human family that we must emerge into the future.I would emphasise this thought:it is as one humanity, chastened, disciplined but illumined and fused, that we must emerge into the future. Those who do not grasp this important fact, whether they are belligerent or neutral, will suffer deeply as a result of their refusal to accept this fact. The Holy trinity is not neutral. It is one with the right element in every nation, and set against all separative, isolationist and materialistic attitudes. Such attitudes prevent the apprehension of the true spiritual values, and hinder human development. Identification with all, and participation in world conditions -voluntarily and not from force – is the way today for all peoples.
Ponder on this.
Speaking for myself, if the entire population of Wichita wants to line up behind me and watch how I vote, fine with me. Perhaps they would learn something about good citizenship. J.Wink.
Tracy: Regarding your statement, “Such attitudes (separative, isolationist and materialistic attitudes) prevent apprehension of true spiritual values and hinder human development.”
I suspect Ayn Rand, author of FOUNTAINHEAD (1943) and other books promoting her thesis of “rational selfishness” would word your thoughts a little differently, as follows: Such attitudes, separative, isolationist and materialistic would PROMOTE ACHIEVEMENT of true spiritual values and PROMOTE human development.
Just my analysis. I don’t know where the true answer lies. J.Wink
Former war-hawk throws in the towel
Thomas Freidman, NY TIMES–
It is now obvious that we are not midwifing democracy in Iraq. We are baby-sitting a civil war.
When our top commander in Iraq, Gen. John Abizaid, tells a Senate Committee, as he did yesterday, that “the sectarian violence is probably as bad as I’ve seen it,” it means that three years of efforts to democratize Iraq are not working. That means “staying the course” is pointless, and it’s time to start thinking about Plan B — how we might disengage with the least damage possible.
It seemed to me over the last three years that, even with all the Bush team’s missteps, we had to give our Iraqi partners a chance to produce a transitional government, then write a constitution, then hold an election and then, finally, put together their first elected cabinet. But now they have done all of that — and the situation has only worsened.
The Sunni jihadists and Baathists are as dedicated as ever to making this U.S.-Iraqi democracy initiative fail. That, and the runaway sectarian violence resulting from having too few U.S. troops and allowing a militia culture to become embedded, have made Iraq a lawless mess.
If any of the warring factions in Iraq were even in the slightest interested in or concerned with putting forward a democracy, I’d say we still have a sliver of a chance to do something good in that country. Guess that’s just a dream.
Did it ever occur to anyone that a small part of the reason Saddam was such a vicious dictator was that it was the only way to keep the country from errupting into exactly what is going on now? Let’s face it, as far as dictators go, the U.S.’s choice in Saddam did the trick…until he turned on us.
Making things worse is that we have united the Shiites against us – chanting “Death to America” by the tens of thousands.
What RD said.
By our standards, Saddam is a beast, but our standards don’t seem to be working very well in Iraq.It took us about 30 years to un-learn the lessons we learned in Vietnam, exacerbated by Bush neocons and the general republican attitude that war is a good thing. Bush wanted to be a war president and he got his wish. It’ll be interesting to see how history remembers him.
So what’s left? What can we possibly gain from Iraq besides more dead Americans?
We’re not going to pull this one out.
Ben,
Its not just the Shiites that have united against US. Its the entire Muslim world. Even our allies hate us. Lebanon is absolutely astounded that we allow Israel’s attacks on women and children. Hell, the rest of the world is as surprised that we haven’t stood up and said something… Remember, we were the ones who invaded a country based on a few WMD’s.
What can we gain XXX? We are succeeding where so many have failed. Lawrence of Arabia, Gamul Abdul Nasser, Khadaffi, Hafez Assad, Saddam Hussein tried and all failed. They tried so hard to unite the Arab world but it never worked. Bush, however, is succeeding in uniting the Arab world. Even Persian Iran, long hostile to the Arabs, is uniting WITH them. Even the Christians in Lebanon, in the words of the Bishop of Beirut, are united with their Muslim Arab brothers in opposition to the US!
MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
Raw Story acquires 91-page Republican playbook for ‘homestretch’ campaigning
RAW STORYPublished: Friday August 4, 2006
A massive, 91-page memo to Senate Republicans outlining strategies for “homestretch” campaigning during the August recess, has been acquired by RAW STORY.
Next week, Republicans will tout efforts to “secure America’s prosperity” through a variety of programs. Plans for small business health insurance pooling, spending reductions, increased domestic oil drilling, and “permanent death tax reform” are all to be pushed at the state level.
Mid-month, Republicans are expected to shift gears, focusing voter’s attention instead on a variety of values-based initiatives. “Democrats oppose preserving a clear definition of marriage, are blocking child custody protections, and have obstructed the confirmation of fair judges,” the document reads. “Republicans are committed to protecting these traditional values by fostering a culture of life, protecting children, banning internet gambling and upholding the rule of law.”
Stem cell bills, though vetoed by President Bush are also to be championed by Republicans, even as they promote a law preventing “fetus farming,” a practice lawmakers believe could one day result from stem cell research. Strangely, a section touting various types of stem cell funding set to be promoted by Republicans is followed by another section, headlined, “Setting The Record Straight: President Bush’s Stem Cell Policy Is Working.”
Also included in the Republican values push will be the Child Custody Protection Act, which would make “it a federal crime to circumvent state parental involvement laws by taking a minor across state lines for an abortion.”
Republicans then plan to spend the month’s remaining two weeks promoting the party’s efforts in regard to homeland security.
The section seems more concerned, however, with defending the Republican record on security, promoting positive statements by the Iraqi Prime Minister, and combating Democratic criticism. For instance, terror suspect surveillance is listed as a priority, and “liberal newspaper” reports about NSA wiretap programs are criticised, but future programs are not listed among other proposed laws.

Thanks for posting this article. Unfortunately voices like Ari Berman and others, who are not extremist zionist or neocons hell bent on keeping America in the dark about their evil plans to “reshape” the Middle East, are not considered mainstream enough to get endless coverage on the corporate (and heavly infulenced by the Israel Lobby) media. So few Americans understand this phenomenon, that is the Israel Lobby, and how it subverts the very principle of the American Revolution and rule of law. Americans would no more stand for a Chinese, French, Russian, Congolese, or Mexican high powered lobbying interests paing off politicians and muzzling them from any serious debate with regards to their interests that go against Americas interests. Americans would not accept their politicians getting cajoled into loan forgivenss, giving access to an unlimited arms supermarket free of charge, and free U.S. taxpayer money, which amounts to $10 billion a year since 1985. For instance, when Israel closed down a few Gaza settlements it demanded and recieved $2 billion dollars to pay for it and this little expense to US taxpayers went underported, as is the case on almost every issue reagrding any story that may seem uncomfortable to the Israel Lobby.Joe Lieberman recieves the most money from AIPAC but nearly every poltician is on their list. There is so much corruption going on with AIPAC that no US politician can reun for president without first standing in front of AIPAC and chanitng the magic words, “Israel has a right to exist and has a right to defend itself.” Well, so does every other nation in the world, including Lebanon, and the democratically elected party called Hamas, and Hezbollah for that matter. You see, they don;t have a high poered lobbying group to tell Americnas their side of the story. That’s why they get labled as terrorists whin in truth, they are not. Watch and see. There are voices from the Jewsih community who are against the Israel first policies of almost all of our politicians. They are seldom heard. Rabbis like David Weiss of New York work towards peace and are against Zionism. There are Jewsagainsttheoccupation too. So this is not an anti-Jewish rant. Alan Dershowits would tell you that what I said is Anti-Semetic, but then again he is anti-American and an Israel firster high powered member fo the Israel Lobby. Some Liberal, huh? I guess if most people were asked this, “Do you consider people who put a foreign nations interests ahead of Americas interest, even when those interest hurt America, to be tratior to America? they would all say yes. It’s ok to criticize Israel, zionism, Neocons and the Israel Lobby. It’s time to tell the truth to America.
Unbelievable propaganda…..

A 3000 lb. bomb landed unexploded on a civilian apartment house. The US marking were clearly visible. Had it exploded over 100 Lebanese would have been buried in the rubble.
Would Bill Clinton have allowed Lebanon to be destroyed and its people murdered?
This plan was hatched while Bill Clinton was president, but the Zionists would not have dared to do this.
We need Bill Clinton back.
Ed I want to recognize you here.
I have said that in light of recent events, it may be we need to read you with a more careful eye. I told you to dial back a bit and you have.
Good on you! I know you are passionate as to this and I do want to know why. It helps when you are a little less strident.
I know you are not local. But ya might weigh in on some other stuff now and again. Don’t be Johnny one note! That’s Paul F Rosells job!

We’re not going to have a country come 08′. Rice has been promised the dictatorship. All of the other notes won’t matter after the takeover.
The one note is all about keeping our constitutional government.
In took the Russians 80 years to rid themselves of their dictatorship.
The rest of the world is getting the real news. They know what is happening to us. We don’t.
Tell me why we are allowing Lebanon to be destroyed?
Yesterday Israel bombed a food warehouse killing dozens of civilians in their attempt to starve Lebanon into submission…
And the US is supporting them why?
AIRFORCE TIMES: 40,000 TROOPS CLAIM THEY WON’T FIGHT IN IRAQ
http://www.airforcetimes.com/story.php?f=1-292925-19303...
Swept up by a wave of patriotism after the U.S. invasion of Iraq, Chris Magaoay joined the Marine Corps in November 2004.
The newly married Magaoay thought a military career would allow him to continue his college education, help his country and set his life on the right path.
Less than two years later, Magaoay became one of thousands of military deserters who have chosen a lifetime of exile or possible court-martial rather than fight in Iraq or Afghanistan.
“It wasn’t something I did on the spur of the moment,” said Magaoay, a native of Maui, Hawaii. “It took me a long time to realize what was going on. The war is illegal.”
Magaoay said his disillusionment with the military began in boot camp in Twentynine Palms, Calif., where a superior officer joked about killing and mistreating Iraqis. When his unit was deployed to Iraq in March, Magaoay and his wife drove to Canada, joining a small group of deserters who are trying to win permission from the Canadian government to stay. snip
Since 2000, about 40,000 troops from all branches of the military have deserted, the Pentagon says. More than half served in the Army. But the Army says numbers have decreased each year since the United States began its war on terror in Afghanistan.
i won’t fight for this president… maybe another…
India Bans Arab TV Channels Under Pressure From IsraelShahid Raza Burney, Arab NewsBOMBAY, 6 August 2006 — In a country widely referred to as the world’s largest democracy, the Indian government has succumbed to mounting Israeli pressure and ordered a nationwide ban on the broadcast of Arab television channels.
The Indian government’s ban on Arab television stations is in complete contrast to the friendship that Arab countries imagine exists with their neighbor across the Arabian Sea. It seems the ban is a move to ensure that Indians do not get to see the atrocities that are presently being committed by Israel in Lebanon and the occupied territories.
Nabila Al-Bassam, a Saudi businesswoman on a trip to Bombay, told Arab News how she became exasperated at not being able to watch Arab channels at Bombay’s leading five-star Oberoi Hotel. When she took up the issue with the hotel manager, she was told that Arab television channels had been banned across India.
A perplexed Al-Bassam then sent an SMS to Arab News Editor in Chief Khaled Almaeena to verify whether this was indeed the case. “Oberoi Hotel tells me that the government of India has banned all Arab TV channels. Why? I hate watching CNN and BBC,” she wrote to Almaeena.
Talking to Arab News, Oberoi Hotel Manager Mohit Nirula did allude to the fact that a ban was in place. “The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has laid down certain rules. It is our duty to abide by and follow the rules of the country,” he told this correspondent.
Minister of Information and Broadcasting Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi was busy in Parliament and was unavailable for comment on the issue. However, a ministry official explained why the Indian government decided to enforce the ban. The official highlighted that India enjoys close and cordial relations with Israel and the US more than any of the Arab governments.
According to another source within the government, the ban is a clear sign to all governments in the Middle East that the Israeli, American and British governments carry far more influence in India than any of the Arab governments.
Several senior Indian journalists explained that the ban was an indication that India had succumbed to Israeli pressure rather than American.
“The whole exercise is to browbeat Arabs and show them as terrorists. The government is subscribing to the absurd argument that channels like Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya promote hatred and encourage terrorism,” they said.
Political analysts in India described the move as a game of double standard that India is playing. On the one hand India establishes friendship with the Arab world while simultaneously it joins with Israel and the US in defaming them. It seems that the pro-Israeli lobby wishes to drive a wedge between India and its time-tested Arab allies. The Indian government’s present stance is in stark contrast to the late Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s staunch support of the Palestinian cause.
The banning of Arabic channels is a federal government decision, done under what senior Indian journalists claim to be intense pressure from the Israeli, American and British governments.
The Indian government has been vocal in its condemnation of Israeli barbarity and has offered millions of rupees in aid to refugees in Lebanon. Arabs sympathetic to India have therefore met the news with surprise.
Many Arabs draw inspiration from India’s heroic struggle against British imperialism and the Indian independence struggle is seen by Palestinians as a brilliant example of throwing out the yoke of imperialism. It is sad that 50 years after independence the world’s largest democracy unfairly suppresses alternative opinion and allows itself to be dictated to by foreign powers.
The analysts believe the Indian government may have used a clause within the Cable TV Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, that certain channels or programs that can potentially cause damage to India’s friendly relations with foreign countries can be banned, a clear violation of democratic ideals such as freedom of expression and freedom of speech.
The response to the ban by hotel administrations across Bombay has been dismal. Chad Alberico, JW Marriott’s customer care official in Washington, said: “We have reviewed your recent inquiries regarding the television offerings at our JW Marriott Bombay. We have phoned our colleagues at the hotel to discuss the matter at hand, but as it is the weekend, we will need additional time to form a complete response.”
“I’m on my way home, it’s the weekend and I will respond on Monday,” said Shehnaz Ankelsaria from the Taj President Hotel. Annan Udeshi from The Hilton was unavailable and asked for a message to be left on her recorder. Khushnooma Kapadia of Marriott Hotel said she would get back later. Rafat Kazi from the Grand Central Sheraton said that she would answer after consulting her general manager. Puja Guleria of Sheraton Maratta said she needed time to deal with the questions. Firuza Mistry of Grand Hyatt said that she was not aware of the facts and would check and respond, and Priya Mathias of Hyatt Regency said that she would also need to check with her senior officials to comment.http://www.arabnews.com/?page=4§ion=0&article=75907&d=6&m=8&y=2006

The Israelis are threatening these people in India along with the hotel owners. Just imagine what they’re threatening to do.
Side Note:
I think the runners of this blog should number the Open Threads so that we, the sleep deprived public, know where we are posting…

Hezbollah should agree to a cease fire if Bush and Rice agree to hang themselves. Twisting in the wind….done deal.

And Blair too.
I note that I heard the other day the Aljazeera is banned in the US.
I’m sure posting that will get me on some list I am already on. So I’ll go on!
Why would Aljazeera be banned in the US? If it IS so nutty why not allow Americans to see it?
I’m an American. I want to be informed not told what they think I want to hear.
hey JR,
U know whats funny though, I am putting together a satellite TV package and one of the “bundles” of channels I can get is Arabic TV which includes Aljazeera. So if its banned, I dont think anyone told Dish Network… ;-)
Hmmmm.
I heard it was banned. Maybe I heard wrong.
JR
You have to ask permission from Israel before you’re allowed to see or hear any information. It’s for your own good. They know best, what is best for you.

The medicinal element, oil of Cloves, is extracted from the plant’s flower buds, leaves, and fruit. Boasting antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and pain-killing effects, it is used primarily as a local anesthetic, especially for toothache. The Cloves found in the typical kitchen spice rack are flower buds picked at the embryo stage. (If picked when mature, they lose their pungency.) They appeared in Europe as early as the 4th Century A.D. In India and Indonesia, they are still smoked in cigarettes
Thanks .morg! I’ve been sucking on cloves all day. I also took a heavy dose of magnesium which is also supposed to help.
Cloves tastes like Anbesol! I wonder what the active ingredient is?
That’s it for me. Hope your feeling better tomorrow JR!
Excellent column by Mark Steyn about “Proportionality”.

Oh Editorial Board!
Maybe I’ve already missed it, but shouldn’t there a be a thread on this alarmingly fascist proposal from the Bush administration, which would not only overrule Hamdan, but apply Gitmo rules to the rest of us?:

Gitmo: It’s not just for foreigners anymore!¬Æ
Do we really want “these people” as an ally? They refuse to pass a law against human-trafficking { slave-trading, actually few laws against any criminal activity for money }.
“Israel has no specific law against trafficking andprostitution is not illegal.”

Heckler, Interesting link. a little ragged in the beginning, but it makes a valid point.
“In one of the worst atrocities since the war began, an Israeli air strike claimed the lives of over 33 farm workers, blown to pieces as they loaded plums and peaches onto trucks at a farm warehouse in the far north of the Bekaa Valley, near the Syrian border. At least another 20 people were wounded in the attack. Most of the victims were Syrian Kurds. They were taken across the border to Syrian hospitals, because previous bombing raids had demolished roads leading to hospitals in Lebanon itself.
This massacre of farm workers followed airstrikes that systematically demolished bridges on the main coastal highway linking Beirut and the Lebanese south to the northern half of the country. Marking the first major attacks on the predominantly Christian North, these attacks served to cut the country in two and to cut off the sole remaining lifeline for relief supplies from abroad. At least five people were killed in these bombings, which were conducted during the morning rush hour, including motorists who were crushed to death as the bridges were bombed from beneath them.”
This is not the first time Israel has used hunger as a weapon. They do that routinely in Occupied Palestine.
And Bush endorses these tactics on the part of Israel. He calls blowing up a bunch of farm workers hundreds of miles from the front “self-defense”
“For all practical purposes, governing the nation has stopped at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as aides deal with an increasingly despondent President, mounting scandals and defecting dissidents from the Ship of State.
White House insiders say George W. Bush’s mood swings have increased to the point where meetings with the President must be cancelled, schedules shifted and plans changed to keep a bitter, distracted leader from the public eye.
“He’s like a zombie some days, walking around in a trance,” says one aide who, for obvious reasons, asks not to be identified. “Other times he launches into angry outbursts, cussing out anybody who gets near him.”
Am I the only person left who thinks about unity, compassion and peace in the world?
Jwink-I’ve already read The Fountainhead, and Atlas Shrugged also. A scathing attack on unions, gov’t, and mob rules mentality.
